Reed Johnson was released, Shannon Stewart and Matt Stairs are Toronto's LF tandem

Meh, with Lind and Snider at AAA and AA respectively the writing was on the wall. One of them will probably be the starting LF and the other will be the starting at 1st soon, if not by next year. I really hope Lind fixes whatever went wrong with his swing last year and I hope he is the starting LF by the all star break.

The Reds domination of the NL Central begins soon!
and ends soon after that!
Actually, if the Reds offense stays healthy they could feasibly compete in the horrid NL Central. They have lots of good young pitching that is finally appropriate for that little bandbox- you know, sinker ballers and strikeout artists as opposed to the Eric Miltons of the world.

Yep I wouldn't be surprised at all if the reds were competitive this year. In 2006 they were good for about half the season, then after those trades with the nationals it seemed to go down hill. If 2007 was just a fluke then I expect them to be competitive in the central this season.

So who is he gonna burn out this time. Harang? Arroyo? Both?
No, the Reds have three really good young starters that will probably all be dead in a ditch somewhere by October. Homer Bailey, Volquez and Johnny Cueto. Remember their names!

Thats unfortunate, Homer Bailey showed real promise..

hey the Rangers beat the Giants 5-2 today. 08 Year of the Rangers, remember that.

STICKY THIS THREAD
Braves beat the Astros 4-2 after getting six quality innings from Mike Hampton. Yeah, you read that right.

News: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Brewers SP Chris Capuano has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow. Capuano is likely to be out for a while might need a second Tommy John surgery. His first one was in 2002.

Poor C-Cap. Started 5-0 last year, finished 5-12 (team loses last 22 games he appears in) now he's gonna have to get cutted on again.

I miss Cabs. I miss Willis. Aye.

Pitching staff seems alright. It's been the work horse for the Marlins for a while now. Hopefully the offense will put up their weight this season.

...lol, who am I kidding. Last place damn it, here we come!!

Yankees and Red Sox
Looking forward to Hughes vs Lester matchups, perhaps Buchholz shows he can handle pressure too. A-rod will go 0-5 against Papelbon in revenge of last year's bullpen homer. Okajima will get hit hard at times, but he will recover to finish with a sub 3.0 ERA and we'll see some close games with Chamberlain showing some elite late-inning heroics. Papi hits for more power , Manny comes back stronger resulting in a less productive Lowell and Drew 's numbers climb as he continues to hone that swing of this. A-rod goes for the Triple Crown again, Cano hits 300, Moose retires and Jeter declines but shows some "heart" and fist-pumping for the masses. Hughes finishes with a sub 4.0 ERA, Joba continues to impress, and Yankees management still doesn't know what to do about the whole starting/bullpen situation.

Summary: Young, power pitchers + speed + 5'6" grit + freakin' postseason hero Beckett is very different from post 2004 red sox team. I think this team can get to the postseason easily. Once there, anything can happen as we all know. I just trust this team more than a millar, clement, renteria, wells, kind of team.

Predictions:
Red Sox 94-68* *Decided on regular season meetings, Red Sox edge by one.
Yankees 94-68*

Yankees fall in the two Bedard starts in the wildcard team vs West Division matchups, and Red Sox sweep Cabrera and the Tigers to give way to a very Asian-flavored ALCS. Matsuzaka strikes out Ichiro, and the rest is history. Oh by the way, Red Sox beat whichever NL team reaches the WS in 5 games.

Ohhh... I can dream.

I had a 14 team keeper league draft tonight, what are your thoughts with my team?

(10) Ryan Braun 3B
2. (19) B.J. Upton 2B,OF
3. (38) Nick Markakis OF
4. (47) Carlos Guillén 1B,SS
5. (66) Joe Mauer C
6. (75) Scott Kazmir SP
7. (94) Fausto Carmona SP
8. (103) Delmon Young OF
9. (122) Yovani Gallardo SP
10. (131) Matt Capps RP
11. (150) Joakim Soria RP
12. (159) Jeremy Hermida OF
13. (178) Yunel Escobar 2B,3B,SS
14. (187) Matt Garza SP
15. (206) B.J. Ryan RP
16. (215) Lastings Milledge OF
17. (234) Stephen Drew SS
18. (243) Peter Moylan RP
19. (262) Conor Jackson 1B
20. (271) Tom Glavine SP
21. (290) Andre Ethier OF
22. (299) Pedro Feliz 3B

Again, I feel like I'm light on pitching, I basically got screwed with a huge run on pitching between two of my picks. I love Kazmir for keeper reaons, and I'm really banking hard on Gallardo becoming a star this year. Also, Hermida is going to be a stud, mark it down, and Feliz was a steal in the 22nd round considering this draft was populated with a good amount of Phillies fans. He can hit 25 homers in CBP.

For a 14 team league that's certainly not a bad team. I would expect you'll make the playoffs if it's a H2H league. For me, your relief pitching is pretty suspect but with 14 teams unless you make it a priority you're not gonna have great rp.

My only real criticism is one of strategy. Personally, I dislike drafting positional players beyond my starting line up unless it's a roto league. There's nothing more frustrating than seeing a home run sitting on your bench for that day... where if you take a starting pitcher, even if they're not great shakes you're still getting strikeouts and a win here or there, and the greater ip will help prevent a really terrible outing from destroying your era and whip. I know some people like to have "backups" for their positional players but if someone on my team goes down there's almost always someone riding a hot streak you can pick up in free agency... and the fact that I keep a shit ton of pitchers provides me with trading chips, too. :D

Edit: I should add that I *do* see the point in drafting a couple extra positional prospects to hang onto in keeper leagues, but I still would rather take a chance on pitchers. Can't have too much pitching!

I hear ya about the relief pitchers, and after the draft was over I realized I took one to many position players. One of my friends is trying to get me to trade Mauer already, and I might be able to gut him, I'll have to see how that turns out. The thing about relievers in this league is that we subtract blown saves so it completely changes everything. We also subtract steals by caught stealing which kills Jose Reyes :D .

Their is literally nobody on our waiver wire pitching wise right now I'm screwed if one of my boys is injured.

Why do you have to be a fan of the Olympianesque Crush as well, man? Take a page from bluemax and like nothing I do so these threads work better!

Go Raiders!

what happened last year? wellington had to wait until opening day or something to get a sticky?

IIRC it was because there were too many stickied threads, but that shouldn't be a problem currently since the off-season thread is still stickied and this would replace it.

Again? God damn it.
Yeah. He brings experience and strength to the team, he plays very well in the field, gets on base and steals bases, gets fans excited and puts butts in seats, yet they get rid of him.

Why? For the same reason they get rid of all good players: they'd rather gamble on the some young, unproven fool. The fucking Indians head office doesn't want you to be excited about Kenny Lofton. They want you to be excited about fucking Assdrubal Cabrera, and his .130 batting average in the playoffs.

God, I hate being a Cleveland fan.

Yep, he was traded to the Braves.
j/k. That would never happen again considering how Cox/Schueholtz and Loften didn't really get along.
the 2007 alds didn't exist. that is all.
Also the 2005 NLDS, 2004 NLDS.....

2003 NLDS
2002 NLDS
2001 NLCS
2000 NLDS
1999 WS
1998 NLCS
1997 NLCS
1996 WS
1993 NLCS
1992 WS
1991 WS

Btw I think we need to STICKY THIS. Hopefully they are just waiting for opening day and haven't banned us from the Sticky group. :lol ... :(

They fucked up by not offering Santana a good contract last year. They offered him 5 years, $100 million this year, which couldn't get it done. Had they signed Santana at that, I don't know if they could've locked up Cuddyer, Morneau, and for sure not Nathan. It's a bad situation. They were mostly in it because of Terry Ryan, who I have lots of respect for, but it was an ugly one. They made the best of it.

I think I'd rather have Gomez, Humber, Mulvey, and Guerra plus like $20 million of budget room to keep the other core pieces of this team together (Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Young) than just Santana at this point, even though he is the best pitcher to ever get on the hill for the Twins.

Maybe I'm just feeling a little more okay with the trade today after Liriano threw 4 innings of hitless ball with 5 Ks. Liriano/Guerra at the top of the rotation plus 3 of the other good kids we have coming up, and I think this team will end up on their feet!

This year will be rough, though.

Over time this trade will look awesome for the Twins. Gomez is going to be a stud. I'm going to watch the Twins whoop the Yankees in the Trashbagdome, and I expect him to steal approximately 18 bags in that series. ;)

They're paying $10 million dollars a year to a guy whose only job is to get 3 outs in the 9th. That's a horrible deal no matter who your fucking closer is.

Overpaying for relief pitching is the surest way to kill a team. Small market teams should never over pay for relief pitching the most replaceable commodity in baseball.

Tomorrow, 6:05 AM EDT, I will open Pandora's Box (and seal the chances of the Giants ever winning another super bowl ever again).

Tomorrow....

Frankman returns to the OT

Brace yourself, kid.

Fantasy note: Anyone with Red Sox and Athletics, make sure to adjust your squads accordingly as they play tomorrow. You'll have a full series' worth of stats before anyone else even gets to play!

I am damned excited to finally be in a roto. Closest I will get to being a real GM. :(
