I'm pretty sure IU is not even his second choice.

I cannot see anyone wanting to go coach at Kentucky right now. It will be hard to lure a big timer I'd imagine. Does anyone want to be the head of an insane asylum?

Yeah, I really think they'll have to settle for Travis Ford at this point.

That's my guess.

If they fired BCG for Travis Ford this whole thing is going to cost Mitch his job. Just sayin'. I don't think they made this decision without strong support from a coach they want, and not Travis Ford.

Well, people need to realize this is the first coach we've fired in like 20 years.

press conference is coming up ASAP. 2 chairs - one will be the AD, who is in the other? Lee Todd, president?

edit: Hood's dad: disappointed, but out of his control so he understands and you wait and see.

Orton's dad: hasn't talked to his son, will have to sit down and talk about it. don't make an emotional decision.

Vilarino's dad: son has been a wildcat in his heart for 3 years, you can't turn that off, so he'll continue to be a wildcat.

final edit: it's lee todd.

As an IU guy, I'm hugely excited about this move by UK, because I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that Dominique Ferguson will now end up at Indiana. Bon Voyage, Billy Gilly!!!!

He may goto U of L, if he hasn't been infected with the UK virus too badly now, and there's a spot available. 4 players off his team have already committed here.

Haha, I'm watching TV out of Louisville now and all the TV stations with their cameras are literally running after Gillispie (he ran and hid in the coach's office). :lol

Mitch, the Athletic Director:

fans love the program. fans are obsessed, they drive everywhere, plan weddings around games. program is a KY tradition now. he's looking out for the fans and the players. didn't think he'd be here. both president todd and he agreed to it.

BillyG didnt have the right chemistry and fit for the program, so they're moving in a new direction.

have to hire a committed coach and who understands it isn't just another coaching job. this year UK failed at basketball-playing. we have to manage the program and the scope, and there was a philosophical difference in how things are to be handled, not just winning and losing. again, the chemistry didn't fit.

now we must move forward and we'll share some details on the search when and if we can. we're going to try to get this one right for both the players and the fans. must represent UK with pride and professionalism.

question time now.

Mitch agrees. BCG isn't getting his $6 mill because her jerked off for 2 years and wouldn't sign an actual contract. He was "year to year" as per Mitch.

I guess all those "rumors" of Billy G getting pulled over and let off the hook by the Lexington police were true, the way they make it sound for personal reasons. Funny how when this shit came out last year, UK fans made it all sound like rumors. The guy was a prick from day one.

Lee Todd and Mitch basically confirm that his 'not in my job description' comment pissed them off to no end, and was the straw that broke the camels back when it comes to 'philosophical differences'

Read the soukanzu on the first page for more details dealing with Billy G's relationship with Alcohol.

Good, Billy G doesn't deserve a dime frankly. Throw up the TT belt buckle photo and that's all you need.

At least UK has the balls to fire a bad coach after two years. ::cough:: KRAGTHORPE ::cough::

Although it is funny he brought up Rich Brooks as a success story.

WKYT says Billy D is not interested. Which tells me that Mitch did not do his job properly. Prepare for him to drag his feet and settle for, who knows, maybe the coach at Lexington Catholic.

Fuck Lex Cath.

Travis Ford, here we come.

I personally think Kentucky should do the Auburn football route. Hire someone you know is going to fail let them coach 3-4 years. They then run the program into the ground until it is acceptable to fire him. Then after that everyone has forgotten about the debacle going on right now and you can go after a big time coach.

So, does this mean if Arizona can pull the upset tonight over the Cards - UK hires their coach?

Travis Ford, you mean? Surely you are talking about Travis Ford.

God dammit. Travis ford. I'd soooo rather have John Pelphery.

“In response to the rumors circulating about my interest in other jobs, I wanted to address this as quickly as possible," Billy Donovan said in a statement. "I am committed to the University of Florida and look forward to continuing to build our program here."

just even more confirmation on that aspect

So, kkaabboomm, you wanted another year for Billy G. I personally did not, but if we aren't going to get a big name, I think we should have done it.

Who do you want, feasibly, to be coach next season?

I was making a crack at UK hiring Gillespie last time based off beating U of L in the second round.

It sounds like Travis Ford, thats what a local sports anchor said earlier with a "very very reliable source." With Donovan saying he's staying, I think that's going to be their new coach.

Well, at least I'll be out of the country next year. :( :( :( :(

We are a fucking joke. God.

The collective entity known as CatsPause should be named as head coach, using those audience participation button doohickeys to call plays / make subs. No one can escape from the future.

"Tubby come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something in everything about you
Tubby come back, you can blame it all on Billy G
I was wrong, and I just can't live without you"

IF the ass clowns at UK have been paying attention, there is only one coach in this tournament who:

a) might leave his school
b) would be a brilliant, forward thinking hire
c) would raise holy HELL in the SEC for years to come

that coach is....Mike Anderson from Missouri.

Pitino's not leaving
Calipari's not leaving
Izzo's not leaving
Jay Wright's not leaving, either.
Neither is Jamie Dixon

Well no shit they aren't coming. We fucked up; we know it. However, can we put the "hurr, UK fanz is racist" thing to rest? If you don't perform, you get hate. It is that simple. We gave Tubby 10 years to get back to a final four and he couldn't do it. We didn't give Billy G even a fair chance.

i did, but just because i really dont care about the 'being a dick off the court' thing. i dont. sorry, but i dont care if he acts like a dick to reporters. yeah, thats bad for the programs image, but if we win, then whatever. that can also be fixed if need be if it absolutely becomes a huge problem.

anyways, now that Calipari and Donovan have publicly said 'NO', i think that just re-affirms things. the guy deserved 3 years minimum to see how well he coaches, off court personal issues aside. we have recruits, you can see if coming, if people all came back....etc, etc. it's over, im not going to dwell on that. BillyG is out, so whatever happens, happens. looking forward and all that.

Feasibly, now, who will be our coach? absolutely fuck if i know. BillyD is out. Looks like Calipari is out. Izzo I don't think is leaving Mich St. Jamie Dixon at Pitt? I don't think so. Jay Wright from Nova? no. Mitch mentioned a coach who knows what the coaching job at UK entails, not just the on-the-court job. Ben Howland from UCLA? Rick Barnes from Texas? Barnes declined last time.

basically, i have no idea who will be our coach, or who i'd like to feasibly be the coach. i hear all the rumors in town about Travis Ford, but why? UMass? EKU? Ok St? because he went to UK? Sean Miller from Xavier? Anderson from Missouri?

so yeah, i don't know. those are the 'biggest' names who would have any sort of possibility of leaving where they are. I keep tossing out Phil Jackson just because that'd be so incredibly awesome.

in summation - i have no idea. i thought billyG should've remained for many reasons, one small one being it'd be hard to get a new good coach. I'm in the dark right now, and have no idea where we're going now.

i don't think i'd like Travis Ford as the coach. but thats just a gut instinct right now.

Never give up! Trust your instincts!

Get used to the idea.

That must be your conscience talking, brother, because I was never in the same neighborhood as that, not to mention the same street. It's a forward thinking hire because all the other "names" are established at their respective schools and have been for some time. Why would they leave? Pitino's been there already and now rules Kentucky basketball from Louisville, Izzo is a Michigander, Wright is a Philly guy, etc.
Anderson, on the other hand, has no real ties to Missouri; he's from Alabama...

Anyway, I would never suggest that ALL Kentucky fans are racist. Just a healthy percentage...and you know it... ;)

Lawrence North's coach is very good friends with Crean, we'll see if that plays out in the future as LN players have a history of going out of state, most famously Oden/Conley.

Off of that team, we have Van Treese coming in next year. Then Martin, Chandler, and Taylor (I think is his name) the year after. Plus Marques Teague, one of the top player in the '11 class, is going to commit here soon out of Indy. Still, all stuf way down the line, so who knows. It's kind of annoying talking about guys who are still sophomores or juniors in high school up for grabs. Way too far down the line.

No, I wasn't trying to imply you were saying that. I was just saying it.

Ahh, my mistake then. Please accept my apology!

In other SEC news. Anthony Grant has taken the job at Alabama. Strike another one off the board. Couldn't happen to a better fellow too, although I'm not looking forward to playing him.
