Official Apple WWDC 2008 Thread (3G iPhone and...more?)

What happened to these presentations being broadcast live on apple.com ? I really hate that they stopped doing that.

Same here, it's much much much faster than macrumors.com right now. Easy to tell where all their resources are being devoted at the moment, lets hope it's enough.

I think they stopped doing that because the bandwidth hosting requirements just kept going higher and higher each year.

Apologies man. I have been a bit harsh with people coming in and asking questions that can't possibly be answered yet. I'll admit to that, and it gets old. But I'm also not trying to offend anyone.

For some reason Nick has an issue with me being an active participant in Apple threads and likes to point it out over and over. He even accused me once of "shitting up" a thread because I was responding too much for his tastes. Never mind that no one else had a problem with it, and that it was all in the process of sharing info and having a conversation.

:LOL depends on where he is in the line. As we get closer line cutting is getting rampant and people stare at them a little harsher. 45 minutes to go. AT&T continues their data network let down. Maybe the have turned on 3g and shut down everything else because this is painful.

But seriously, even though I love the diamond, I'm waiting for a better iteration, prolly one with camera flash, microSD slot and a more responsive UI.

EDIT: Oh... I didn't realise the Touch Pro has all that... I was just all fussed about the thickness. Maybe I'll get it then!

How would the subsidy work?
I could go to the AT&T store and buy one straight out for $199 (don't think so), or pay the full amount, and get refunded once activated at home?

I can ell you how this stuff works over here. You buy the phone for the low price and have to comit to a cotract usually 2 years.

But seriously. Previous precedents for subsidizing phones probably aren't applicable to the iPhone. AT&T came up with their own data plan for the phone. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility they do the same thing here. I'm hopeful they'll let me sign a new two-year contract and get the subsidization -- if it exists, GAF Apple Believers!!!!! -- despite already owning an iPhone. I'd like to give it to my girlfriend.
 
why am i such a nerd and am so anticipated for this? I don't even have any intentions of buying this gen of iphone, nor am I an apple fanatic. I currently own 0 apple products (my ipod died a month ago, so thats long gone). I also just made the switch to a zune over the weekend (ipod classic interface is just too old, and itouch's have pathetic space atm). I guess Im just a sucker for hype. I remember doing this last year too....:lol

I'm actually hoping for something similar. When the iPhone received storage bumps a few months back, people were able to buy it and just sign a new 2 year deal, but they weren't subsidizing anything, so it's a different approach. The rules may change some when they subsidize, and the phone is a lot cheaper to purchase.

And if I do grab the new model, I'd likely give the older version to my gf as well.

I don't think it's nerdy. Unlike a typical, boring tech keynote, Stevenotes are genuinely entertaining and informative, incorporating humor and surprises. The reality distortion field is truly a marvel to behold.

yeah i fuss over touch screen keyboards.. when i saw it, the first thing i thought was "damn if this only had a qwerty KB" and then weeks later i see the Raphael, now called Touch Pro and i was like "he shoots, he scores!"

Hehe, yes well....

It's just that since it's activated at home which made me wonder how it works.

I bought my 8GB iPhone via AT&T's site for $250 and it said you had to sign up once you received it.

Of course, I never did that part of the deal.

I actually don't care too much about the 3G iPhone announcement. I mean, I'll learn about the details when it comes, but as if it's not one of the worst kept secrets in recent Apple history.

I'm looking forward to the other rumoured announcements, or perhaps something totally unexpected (though that's kinda rare these days if you keep up with Apple news). Not to mention upgrading them iPhones to 2.0 and having a play with it.

Sounds like last year's WWDC(?) when they kept talking about how Leopard would have so many new awesome features, but when they got to highlighting them, they just demoed the stuff they already announced the previous year as well as shit that wasn't exciting.
