Bleh no online ordering is going to make the lines on July 11th disgusting at the stores. I want one but not enough to stand in line in the summer weather. Hopefully they start the online ordering on July 11th so I can get laser engraving :D

On a plastic case?

Just caught up on all this news and this is exactly what I expected from the iphone announcement. Mediocre announcements for features that have been available on other phones for years and a whole huge fangasm about it.
The ABSOLUTE worst thing is that the price difference everyone is raving about is exactly the same as before you fanboys just can't read into it...idiots!
$10 extra per month for data *24 = $240. Cost of iphone +$240 is $440 or $540. :lol

Will the "exchange" support work like XpressMail currently does for AT&T in the sense that whatever email comes to my personal outlook on my desktop (not connected to any exchange server) gets pushed directly to my phone (this is what XpressMail does)? or will i have to pay $100 for the mobileme package?
No, Exchange support will only work with Exchange mail servers. MobileMe will do what you want for $100, but I'm pretty sure an IMAP server and either Mail.app or a third party app will do it for free with push notifications (out in Sept.).

Really nice hands in fact. I really like them. Good job.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

I'm a bit frustrated that I bought my first-gen a month ago and now they're only charging 199 for the new one. I knew it was coming and was okay with sticking with Edge... but I never expected the price would drop like that. Would've waited otherwise. Frustrates me because by that time, they knew good and well the price was gonna drop while they were still selling the first-gen for 399. The new ad even seems taunting about that fact.

It would be one thing if I got it a year ahead.. but we're talking a month. D'oh!

Except every AT&T smartphone with 3G was already $10 more. 3G = $10, not the subsidy.

The price subsidy is the result of Apple scrapping the previous revenue model. Pay attention.

I just watched the conference video, and I really liked some of the applications demoed. I can't wait to replace my razr that i've had for 3 years...

Can they laser engrave plastic?
I believe they offered engraving on the gen1 shuffles. Isn't the logo on the back of the iphone plastic case laser engraved (the 8/16GB badge)?

The ZDnet Apple Core blog updated their post about the voice and data plans. Here's what it says now:

Individual voice plans:

* $39.99 – 450 minutes
* $59.99 – 900 minutes
* $79.00 – 1,350 minutes
* $99.99 – unlimited minutes

Unlimited 3G data costs US$30 per month. All individual rate plans include 200 SMS messages and unlimited night and weekend minutes. You can get unlimited SMS messages for US$20.00 per month.

Family Talk voice plans:

* $69.99 – 700 shared minutes
* $89.99 – 1,400 shared minutes
* $109.99 – 2,100 shared minutes
* $149.99 – 3,000 shared minutes
* $199.99 – unlimited shared minutes

Family Talk plans can have up to five lines and each line must add $10 per month to the rates above. All Family Talk rate plans include 200 SMS messages and unlimited night and weekend minutes. You can get unlimited SMS messages for $30.00 per month.

Sauce

That seems to be in line with the Apple press release earlier.

Can anyone answer me this. Why in the name of Jesus Herbert Christ do they charge more for the first Family Plan line than for a single line? For the privilege of being able to give them even more money? You can get 2 single lines for the same price as 2 on the family plan, but with 2 single lines you each get 200 texts and a total of 900 minutes instead of 700.

No. MobileMe is being marketed as "Exchange for the rest of us", if you want Exchange support you'll probably only need a business data plan .

Just to clarify, you don't need a business plan to use the Exchange functionality. AT&T simply charges more for data on business accounts.

Also:

Here's to the pioneers, the crazy ones, the ones who had an iPhone and activated it at home. That REALLY f'n sucks that you cannot activate them through iTunes any more.

I'm going to upgrade to the 3G iPhone if and only if Rogers makes a decent unlimited data plan. Otherwise I'm sticking with my current iPhone and I'll continue to pray that hackers find a way to incorporate new updates into my Jailbroken iPhone.

I hope Apple was able to strong arm Rogers into offering data plans that aren't batshit insane.

Did he really say Active Stink when talking about Active Sync... why do they have to be such fucking children.

Considering they just paid a pretty penny to put it in their phones and now OS, I'm surprised at the crack too.

Not sure how it works if the situation is iPhone -> iPhone, but if you're on AT&T and want to go Other phone -> iPhone, you can do it at any point in your contract. I specifically asked about this before, because I was wanting to get a new phone (and contract) but also wanted to leave the iPhone option open.

Really, pretty interesting.

It means you will get a new contract, right?

I'm on a 550 family plan. 1 iphone and 1 regular phone. The current way to activate an iphone allows you add on the iphone data for just $20.

I don't think they are going to allow upgrades and allow you to buy the iphone for $199.

Both colors for 16GB? The promotional images led me to believe White was 16GB and Black was 8GB...?

yup, both for 16 GB. It's like the ipod nano where 4 GB gives you silver only, but 8 Gb gives you a choice of colors.

It looked like a slip of the tongue, not a jab that was pre-planned. He seemed pretty apologetic after he said it.

Interesting, how will the exchange integration be handled then? If it's direct exchange integration then it still might be worthwhile. $70 is still $20 less than Verizon is charging. Might be interested again.

Lol, I have had an N75 and a Sync for the past year and a half both with 3G and paying $20 a month with the Media Max unlimited. 3G does not cost more than Edge, if you sign up for a data plan with ATT on a GPRS phone and stick the sim card in a 3G phone you will have 3G speed. Once again fanboys fail, its just Apple and ATT gouging you for money.:lol

Any Nokia phone with s60 3rd edition has an equivalent browser which has flash enabled. The new S60 2.0 can show youtube in the browser on the phone. In fact if you want to see how far mobile browsing has come on a dumb phone install Opera Mini 4 on any java enabled mobile and watch as it renders full webpages. The Apple UI is slick though I will not take anything away from that that is obviously the best feature of their phones but that hasn't changed at all from iphone 1 to iphone 2

As for visual voicemail, come now :lol :lol

There seem to bealot of knowlagable people here so im going to ask an AT@T service question here:

Is it possible to combine my mothers AT@T plan which includes my fathers phone with my seperate iphone plan? What kind of charges do we look to face if we can and how much would we even save?

my decision to switch will really hinge on whether or not we get government/corporate rate discounts this time around.

I also wonder if no revenue sharing means for purchase updates on the new iPhone, or if the app-store counts as an accountable revenue stream etc.

Like the change to the backing, and the 3G bump. Would have liked a better camera but I could live. GPS and sound improvements are pretty big IMO.

Tobor, there was a jailbreak app that used the iPhone camera for video. So I wouldn't be surprised to see that once the AppStore is up and running.

$199 is pretty big and a smart move.

REALLY wish the 2.0 software was up. But I'll guess I'll wait it out.

And how much is the PDA/smartphone data plan smart guy? Media Max is supposed to be for "regular" phones only.

Nokia Browser equivalent to Mobile Safari? :lol You can be safely ignored.

Any way, for those people with actual knowledge, anyone have an answer re: video shooting with the existing camera being added by an app?

I bet they'll charge extra for GPS... Verizon does it. Also, it's $40 + $30 for the data plan, + ~$10 of taxes, + more for text messages (200 isn't going to be enough for me)... = $80-100 per month. Yikes.

I hope they drop the price/update the Touch soon cause I'd rather just get one of those and keep using my $50/month cell phone. I can use VZ Navigator for $3/day for the few times a year I need it.

The iPod Touch looks horribly, horribly overpriced right now.

The iPhone is heavily subsidized by the 2 year contract (3 years in Canada). If a user wants iPhone-like features without a contract they have to get the iPod Touch. There's still a market for it. But yeah, they might have to rethink their pricing on the Touches regardless.

Another problem solved then. My list of complaints now is down to storage. Can't win them all.

Okay, I understand 3G costs more because of bandwidth issues... but they removed the 200 SMS as well? That's pure fucking greed.

The $30 plus additional money for SMS package is a deal breaker.

Fuck you AT&T. FUCK. YOU.

It's direct- the iPhone talks to your corporate Exchange server.

Fucks sake, I'm flogging off my Touch before it hits no way in HELL I am paying for a Firmware update.

So how does buying this thing work? I just renewed my AT&T contract for a year a couple months ago but I want to buy this thing. Do I have to add another 2 years to my contract or is there another way?

White looks like shit. I'm going with Black. I bet the Australian 3G iPhone will only be $200/$300 with hefty plans. Apple doesn't seem to say that you can buy one off the shelf for that price at an Apple store, only from Optus or Vodafone. I'll probably import it from America again.

I'm hoping there aren't too many white 16gb units as I'm guessing they are not going to be that popular and in next month's launch rush they'll be like the 4gb units - the only ones left because nobody wants them.

At&T recently reduced my smartphone plan from $40 to $20 and that includes 3G support.

Maybe iPhone plan is more expensive because of GPS? Otherwise that sucks balls.
