Official bitching about Hudson abandoning VC support. [VC/WiiWare = lost cause]

Could someone recommend to me the best 2-4 player multiplayer games available on the VC right now? I would love to have some multiplayer fun now that school's over with but I'm not sure what to buy. I already have Mario Kart 64.
For co-op multiplayer, Chew Man Fu, Gunstar Heroes, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and Streets of Rage 2.

For competitive multiplayer, I haven't played Bomberman '93 specifically, but Bomberman games are always a sure bet from what I have played, and '93 is up on VC. Also, it supports up to five players (I believe at least one has to be a Wii remote and at least one has to be a GC controller? someone correct me if I'm wrong), none of this 2-4 stuff. :D

Those beams of death on Quickman's stage are so annoying >=(

I think I brought that on myself for daring to call this game 'easy' :D

I've got that section down to a science by now. It took some practice, but Quick Man's lasers never touch me anymore.

Now, the Quick Man-esque lasers in Mega Man X5 are a different story entirely. Having a character that sticks to walls is the absolute worst thing to have in the face of impending laser-related doom.

Hi all!

I really want to know, if anyone has downloaded a Neo Geo game to their Wii's Virtual Console and you have a Gamecube controller, could you tell me what the Button mapping for Neo Geo games using a GAMECUBE controller is?

(or if you just know anyway ;)

In other words, which Neo Geo button gets mapped to which GC controller button:

Neo Geo Gamecube
------------ ---------------

A-->

B-->

C-->

D-->

(I have a controller converter that lets you use a SNES controller on the GC / Wii, but I wanted to check the button mapping for the GC controller to see if it would work OK for Neo Geo Virtual Console games on Wii) ;-)

Thanks!

.

Thanks alot. I bought Chew Man Fu and Bomberman '93 for its 5 player action!! I also bought ToeJam & Earl for its co-op. Never played any of these games previously but I'm hoping they'll be fun to play with the siblings.

US, Europe and Australia all get Monster Lair this next week.

Japan gets:

FC: Metal Slader Glory
SFC: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
MD: Party Quiz Mega Q
PCE: Ai Cho Aniki

lol Mega Man 2, thats just rubbing salt into the wounds of not-even-Mega-Man-1-land. >_<

We (North America) will get Mega Man on Monday. Maybe even a Mega Man/Mega Man 2 combo. That's a FFFX Guarantee!™

How did I beat World 8 in SMB3 when I was a kid? Way harder than I remember it being.

I was able to do it with 2 Pwings and one cloud when i was a kid.

First tank level - doable
Boat level - swim under
Level 1 - Pwing
Level 2 - Dive in the first quick sand
Fortress - Skip with the Cloud item
Last tank level - Pwing

:D

I'll have to think for a long while about whether I get DKC3 when it shows up. On the one hand, I'm in the boat that says DKC2 is among the greatest platformers ever made, DKC1 is slightly above average, and DKC3 is just exactly average. On the other, I want to see a sequel in case Nintendo can manage to live up to the second game without Rare, and buying it might support that idea.

Swimming under the boat level is more work to me than actually playing the level.

And you left out the three bridge levels and fast-moving airship stage.

When are we getting more RPG's? I just got BOF2 and I need more.

I know. When they announced the VC, I was happy because I could finally play all the RPGs I missed. I gotta say that I'm throughly disappointed so far.

Any idea about a storage solution or being able to play VC games off SD cards?

The Wii is a fridge! You don't keep every type of food you'd ever want to eat in your fridge. You only keep in there what you're currently eating.

...or, something like that.

The bridge levels were easy and I always P-Winged the fleet level.

Oh yeah! I forgot about those ones. I had to be lucking with the hands. Pretty much a make or break moment for me when i was a kid.
I was using a Pwing for the sky tank. So 3 Pwings and a cloud was what i needed to complete it. ;)

Some excuse. I had no problems with those stages back then.

I had to kick as much ass as you did at that age so you're not depressed today? Should have told me earlier...

EDIT: Stealth edit buddy? ;P Anyways yeah, kid sucks so did i.

DKC 3 =O

I love the DK platformers, but I think I won't buy this again (Despite getting the first two on VC). Like many I feel the series peaked at 2, and 1 was a great, charming game. 3's style and level design didn't appeal to me as much, and I wasn't exactly a fan of Kiddy.

Still a nice game, and the only SNES DKC I managed to 101/102/103% (and without a guide!). I may load it up on my SNES tonight :D

I love Nintendo's games and systems but, man, when I read stuff like that I HATE them. Why are they so damn stubborn??

What's stubborn there? Virtual Console side is for experiencing the original games, Wiiware side is for the rest.

They could totally do a Starfox+ (60fps) or Super Mario Kart online but they would be posted on the Wiiware side and not the Virtual Console side. The only thing to except (obviously) is that they will prefer to make new games.

Well, there's always that possibility that old games might get updated versions on WiiWare. Maybe I'm just extremely naive, though. >_>

Edit: Beaten.

Getting emulated games online is not impossible by any stretch (with obvious proof on the PC), but it would definitely be better to have games programmed specifically for Wii with latency controls built-in. These games were built with NO latency in-mind.

Aside from that, I would like Super Mario Bros. programmed specifically for Wii: same graphics, same gameplay, less flickering, added achievements ala Super Mario Bros. DX, the option of playing any stage you have completed, and a big ol' checkmark on both the title screen AND the Wii Menu indicating that you have 100%'ed the game. Also, a widescreen option would be nice; you'd see a little more of the stage, but that's okay with me. I'm just tired of seeing the game stretched.

Can't you set your TV and Wii in 4:3? Or maybe it,s not worth the effort or you can't save settings on your TV?

Actually, lining up some MegaMan games for his 20th birthday (which *is* Monday iirc) makes some sense. I'd like to see an all MM day actually, with something like MM1, MMX1 and MM64 or something.

Yes, but then when I go back to a non-emulated game, I have to set it back to 16:9. Not to mention the fact that I'm not a fan of big black borders on the sides, either.

That's what i thought. The Wii is sadly better on a SDTV it seems...

Too late: Monster Lair is crashing the party. If we see two NES games or a NES and Super NES game, that'd be a good indication.

the problem with RPGs is that inherently they are 30+ hour games, even the 8-bit ones. This makes it much more worthwhile to invest, say, $20,000 in one, redo the assets and release it for DS or PSP (or both) where it will sell 50,000 copies than to invest $0, release it to VC, where it might only sell 10,000 copies. Assuming a publisher just sees $10 per game in revenue on the DS, that is still like $9.33/game in revenue they'll see for a remake, vs. less than $8/game in revenue they'll see on VC, with more sales to boot.

This is why the most popular games (for publishers to release) on VC are mainly games with 1-6 hours of playtime and limited replayability. Aka games that aren't really viable to have on store shelves outside of a compilation disc where the per game price drops significantly below the $8 of the VC.

Speaking of this...
There are three VC Mondays left in the year. If each of those was a 4 game week, how close would we be to that 200 figure Nintendo was throwing around? (I know they were just estimating; I'm still curious, though.)

It's currently at 181, so it'd take 19 more titles to reach 200.

19 titles / 3 weeks = 6.3 titles per week

There are 181 out right now. +12 = 193. So, 7 short.

Edit: Damn you, Cheesemeister!

There are 181 US VC games up now, so three 4 game weeks would put it at 193. Japan (at 247) has had over 200 for quite some time though, since the end of September.

Yeah, let's hold out hope for a blowout 12-game Christmas Eve, two games per system. I'm trying to say this with a straight face.

Personally, I'm calling a Super RPG Christmas featuring Light Crusader, Shining Force II, Ys 1&2, and of course, Earthbound.

Man, dreaming is fun.
