Official European software charts week ending 24 March 2007 (PS3 launch week)

i think if Sony is able to carry this momentum over at least the next 2 weeks, then it cannot be total Nintendo domination anymore
i think they'll have to carry it for longer. with a deep launch line up, it'll take longer than two weeks for anyone to feel the effects of a drought.

be interesting to compare the PSP launch week software sales to this to see how things looked at this point for the PSP software wise, and to see how quickly things dropped off to get an idea of what kind of time frame these sales need to hold up for in order for us to be confident that we're seeing a 'normal' level of sales.

Seems like PS3 isn't listed, cause Finland is one big Sonyland.

Resistance deserves every sale it gets. Finally a game that made me WANT to learn to play a FPS properly using a console controller. It really is an amazing game and thankfully, though it may have been sent to die, it certainly isn't going that way without a fight.

I'm dying for a new DLC add-on scenario or something though, or news on a sequel.

Glad you're enjoying it... Just a FYI, it wasn't "sent to die", quote Luke Smith unquote.
It was sent to KICK ARSE, and lo, it did.

Cheers!

I dont think we will have any competitor press releases after this.
What has been said before, is apperantly true. Europe and rest of PAL is definetly Playstation world.

Doomsayers probably dont visit these threads anymore :lol
Good job Sony.

Wait a few weeks and european software charts will turn back to normal. :)

Has FFXII only recently been released in Europe/Australia?

AFAIK, FFXII was released around mid-Feb here in the UK. Not sure about everywhere else.
And in the light of the Aus/NZ sales charts, shouldn't the thread title be 'Official PAL software charts'?

PS3 software sales for Germany:

Media control/GfK announced that overall 48.000 games have been sold on PS3 in the first two days.
Sounds like ~30-35kish hardware sales (no numbers from GfK though).

Best sellers: Resistance, Motorstorm, F1.

http://www.media-control.de/pressem...n-3-in-deutschland-erfolgreich-gestartet.html
They even have an interesting comparison. Wii sold 42.000 pieces of software on launch (not bad considering WiiSports is a pack-in) and 360 managed 33.000 (much more than I had expected).

Thanks, missed that.

Btw. according to David Reeves, President & Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Sony sold 50-60k PS3s in Germany in the first two days.
Considering that according to GfK (which btw. covers more than 70% of the german videogame market) 48.000 PS3 games have been sold in the first two days, I call 'bullshit' on these numbers and I'm also highly skeptical about the 600k claim for Europe.

Well they could be buying the PS3 as a BR player etc. Look at the abysmal software sales in Japan.

But I do agree that Sony has a tendency to spread missinformation and thus I do take their numbers with a grain of salt.

That's basically the whole problem with European numbers, we rarely get them from a neutral source and thus it's hard to keep track of the markets.

Do you mean, the left 30% of the videogame market in Germany couldn't have sold enough PS3 to get up to 50/60k units?

If they cover 70% then they should be able to estimate the total sales in the other 30% with some pretty damn high accuracy. And the Germans are known to be decent at math.

Does that mean the 48k is an estimate?
And aren't those numbers for games?
I seriously don't see how 50/60k consoles in Germany is such a stretch to call it bullshit.

Why do people keep saying that Resistance is such good game. I think its average. It has a good co-op mode, which I enjoyed a lot, but the finishing of the game is atrocious. I think this is a case of first-gen-games syndrome. In 2-5 years time you will look back and think, this game doesn't hold up at all. I think graphically Gears of War is better. And I don't meant that in the sense of number of polygons, or it looks way better bullshit. I mean the amount of detail on everyting. I thought the AI was rather good, until the stupid aliens kept shooting through walls, and as you move further away, so did the bullets, as if they had heat sensors on, or x-ray vision.

People keep saying that becuase they found it to be a good game. I personally found it not to be a good game, but a GREAT game with issues.
It was a lot of fun, with some great moments and some annoying issues that forced me to restart a couple levels once but still, it made me really interested in the next installement to see where the story will go (and I hated FPSs on consoles).
And naturally, all the sales are well deserved.

They don't. They keep saying it's "average" and "I think graphically Gears of War is better."

Hmmm..... weapons shooting through walls, eh?

Umm... yea tell that to the GAF clan that is still playing online even months after its launch and will continue to and move over to Resistance 2 whenever it comes out. The game isn't perfect but considering it was Insomniac's first dance with the PS3 and first online FPS I consider it a great success.

Because not everyone shares your opinion? Because some have played it enough including multi-player to know that in rage mode the chimera CAN see through walls?:D

Well the numbers are pretty much guestimates. Rounded off from the numbers different retailers give media control. They do cover most of the big ones I guess.

Pretty good news, I mean I know it's a launch but considering there are less then a million units sold thus far in the UK this is still pretty impressive. It should fade some in time of course but once the base numbers of PS3 owners increases it will probably start to stabilize more towards the top again.

Do people expect this to continue for awhile, as in 360 WILL be the last place console in Europe? Or does MS have a fighting chance over there?

Well, unlike Japan, 360 does have a chance in Europe, but it's not a very big chance. They need a broader range of games if they're going to try to do well in EU.

No more than the PS3... I mean, as good as the launch lineup is, it doesn't offer any new genre compared to the 360. Both are especially lacking in the "silly games" department, while they have their share of racers/shooters/sport games (but those are the only genres that sell in Europe anyway)

The difference is, PS3 already has Singstar and Buzz either out or on the way. The closest 360 has is Guitar Hero 2, which most people will already have on their PS2.

But really, at this point, all 3 consoles are pretty lacking in the variety. Hopefully that issue will be fixed by the end of this year.

They need more games that don't come to PC as well.

That and they need a controller with which you can play RTS'.

That's the only way to win over the PC gamers, which is the key to more market penetration since they represent most of the hardcore gamers around here (X360 target demographic).
