I'm fed up of seeing Arsenal corners and freekicks swung into the box, they must have the lowest conversion rate in the league. Why don't they follow Roma's example (although for some reason they didn't do it so much in the second leg) and just immediately take them short, catching teams asleep or on the back foot?

Remind me of Wenger's mobile number again.

Come on Arsenal!

This is what I like to see! Should be like 3-1 up by now but it's ok, I can see them scoring more today.

This season is really killing me.

Playing well though, I like our midfield today for the first time in many weeks. Rosicky, Hleb and Fabregas stand out so far. Adebayor really needs a good striker alongside him to play to his best, the only time he played well as a lone striker was against manyoo 8 months ago. I agree with Mama about our corners - Wenger definitely needs to think about this.

The feed on my pc is really poor - it looked to me like Nolan was offside for the first goal. Am I right or did some pixel play him on?

I didn't check on Nolan, but the current offside rule (which they like to change every season so only a month or so left!) is that if any part of the attacker's body they can play the ball with is ahead of the defender when the ball is passed, they're offside.

I assume that means if Drogba's fat arse is a inch ahead of play as he runs backwards, he's offside, as the only parts of the body you can't play the ball with are the hands and most of the arms.

Dunno if that helps confirm whether Nolan was offside or not.

I honestly didn't notice if he was offside...... I was too busy swearing at my friend for jokingly saying bolton 1 - 0 I didn't notice them scoring until I heard it. >.>

Great start Bolton :lol

Fabregas did his best to give their defence time to get back at him, but eventually he couldn't put off shooting any longer. Maybe he had a bet with someone that he wouldn't score all season.

The possession stats at the end of this game are going to make interesting reading.

Like Carrick, Fabregas really should score more. Maybe next year.

Fabregas looks capable of it, but it's been a mix of great saves, poor finishing, and bad luck this season. He usually has one or two good chances per match, they just haven't been going in yet.

EDIT: Just watched a clip of the Fabregas goal - he really didn't want to use his left foot there, eh? :lol

It's not just this season though, even if it's worse this season than normal. He only has 12 goals in his entire Arsenal career (almost 150 games), and he averages a goal every 20 games in the league. It should be 1 in 10 at the absolute minimum.

Perhaps, players like Ronaldo and Lampard didn't take off in terms of scoring until older than Fabregas, it could still come.

On the other hand, Beckham used to get a ton of goals from midfield when he first started, and not just from freekicks, then gradually slowed down.

We'll see in time.

We have gone full strength, bar the injuries. surprising, i have always liked the idea of get the lead, then rest the players, but it has never been a position shared by SAF. Should mean a good game and hopefully win.

Lineup?

same as Roma, bar 2 changes, 1 not forced (scholes for fletch) and one forced (evra for Oshea). Not sure if we are lining up

heinze rio brown evra

or

Evra rio heinze brown.

I thought it might be interesting to look at all the Premiership teams in terms of goals scored, not including strikers. It makes for interesting reading, quite a few surprises I think. I'll present it in a way to show just how large some of the gaps are:

Goals (non-strikers)/Teams:

47 Man Utd
46
45
44
43
42
41
40
39
38
37
36
35
34
33
32
31
30
29 Man City, Chelsea
28
27 Reading
26 Arsenal
25 Everton
24
23 Newcastle
22 Spurs
21 Liverpool
20 Portsmouth
19 Fulham
18 Bolton
17
16 Wigan, Villa
15 Charlton, Blackburn
14 Middlesborough
13
12 Sheff Utd
11 Watford
10
9
8
7
6 West Ham

Some points:

- West Ham's non-strikers really aren't helping

- Liverpool's strikers are often blamed for their lack of success, but the rest of the team are doing even worst (in terms of goalscoring, obviously)

- If Man City could get a couple of really good strikers, or even just one, they'd be miles higher up the league

- Arsenal aren't doing too bad, they just need their strikers back

- Man Utd's overall goalscoring is miles ahead of any other. Even if (for some bizzare reason) we took Ronaldo away, they'd STILL have the most goals from non-strikers. There are two ways of looking at this I think...either thinking just how much further ahead they'd be if they had a really top goalscorer up front OR that their all round contribution is so good, they can afford to score a non-major goalscorer like Torres who can just add his 10 or so goals and all round link up play

Isn't that similar to the United team of the late 90s and early 2000s? Most of our midfielders were regularly banging in the goals. Ferguson just builds that kind of team, IMO.

Finally! It only took injuries to Vidic, Silvestre, Neville, O'Shea and now Ferdinand...but Ferguson has been forced to play Heinze at centre back.

I'd really prefer to win it knocking out Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.

I suppose we could beat Watford instead though, if they insist.

Its 4-1 now. Richardson has actually done something useful. Well I guess there's a first time for everything.

He's trying to impress his future club. I mean he does have their kind of quality of play (Watford).

Generally when Richardson scores goals they're good ones, so I'm not surprised.

Maybe Spurs should look at him, I know they're after a top left sided midfielder and Richardson is just ok, but at least they would have someone left footed they could put out there.

Can still see Roy Keane taking him to Sunderland, who took another step towards promotion today.

"Hello, we're Manchester United and are going to play in third gear today with a makeshift defence, but still beat you 4-1"

Alright, United in the final, we'll just have to win the cup so no one can claim we were lucky.

I really want to know whast happened with ferdinand. A makeshift defence like we had today is okay against teams like watford or sheffield united, but its going to be too difficult to cope without him for a long time, especially with vidic injured.

AAAAARG!!!!! WTF just happened?

The game is under control, then the ref decides to pull out a PK out of his ass, when you can clearly see when Diarra touches the ball way before touching the player, and then Cannavaro displays all of his experience by commiting such a retarded PK.

I´m in shock.
