Ermmm, I can. I think he's the best right back in the league, or certainly amongst the top 4. Excellent defensively, great going forwards, wonderful cross (as he started his career as a winger)...the only thing Eboue has over him is his pace. In his positioning, tackling, decision making and crossing, he's inferior.

I had to think about that one, and almost chose Finnan over him. But while I think that Eboue has the better potential than Finnan - in all honesty I think that Hoyte has the best potential out of all of them. He'll be the England right back after the Euro if he can get himself into the starting 11 at Arsenal.

I think what it shows us is that there isn't that many great right backs in the Premiership, or in the the world for that matter. I think there are far better leftbacks than right backs.

Well, Finnan doesn't really have any potential left, he's 31, this is it, he's probably already peaked and is actually about to head down from here on out.

Micah Richards and Chimbonda are both better right backs than some of those playing for top 4 clubs, I'd expected the former to move before now, but it seems unless Chelsea go for him, no one can afford to take him off City's hands.

Richards needn't be in any hurry to move of course. He's only 19 (well, he will be in a couple of weeks), and has 3 years of his contract left. So either he'll be able to move for free at 22, or more likely City will have to accept a cut price deal for him at 21 so they don't lose him for nothing.

Then again, if Man City are taken over by someone rich enough, he may never have to move.

Richards is definitely the biggest contender along with Hoyte I'd say. I'd have loved to see him at Arsenal, but he's far too expensive.

Shinobi said:
I'd have started Hoyte all of last season and kicked Eboue's diving ass to the curb.
he did have a bright start to the season, but it was downhill from there. I'd definitely have chosen Hoyte over him, but Hoyte was out injured for most of the second half of the season.

edit:

just looked up some of his dives on youtube, outrageous.

But, as with any other player, there is so many clips on there that aren't even dives and the peoples comments are hilarious. Bunch of idiots. Interestingly, most of the dives come from spurs games too.

edit again: :lol, actually, there isn't that many and all of them are dives except for one.

Sorry to ask,but why isn't this thread stickied? Would certainly make it easier to find.

I know we're on an American forum, but i saw a Hockey thread stickied, and i think going by number of replies alone, this thread deserves it.
It's sort of a defacto sticky because we end up posting so much. Plus it's nice being under the radar to some extent.

I prefer not having the sticky because mods dont pay as much attention to us.

what do you think of my new avatar guys? All thanks to wes :D

Nothing better than seeing a funny clip with a barcelon ana real madrid....I mean arsenal players.

You'd take Babel over Malouda? Are you crazy? ;) No really, Babel is crap, he's barely good enough for Ajax. But I've talked about that in this thread a lot already. I'm probably seen as some Babel hater. :lol

While i think Babel is one of the few big Dutch talents, at this moment Malouda is a much better and a much more complete player so i would go for Malouda. That said Malouda is also 6 years older and Babel has shown much improvement over the last 2 years.

Here is football365s 40 signs that its summer. Its quite amusing, some of the things are so true.

http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8751_2285110,00.html

1) Thierry Henry is off to Barcelona.

2) You keep checking the internet to see if you've signed someone. You just did it now.

3) And again.

4) The Mailbox is half as long as normal.

5) Thierry Henry is off to Real Madrid now.

6) ManYoo release a new kit.

7) Football pundits find themselves shoehorned into covering other sports.

8) As do football journalists. Quick, look busy.

9) Someone English is cheered all the way to the fourth round of Wimbledon from Henman Hill or Murray Mount or somewhere.

10) Actually, Andrew Murray's f**king Scottish, isn't he? Let's not cheer for him.

11) Sue Barker sits there and tells you it's a "Great British summer of sport".

12) You end up knowing the names of half the footballers' agents in the Premier League.

13) Old pros are forced to play football as satellite TV desperately scrabbles around for material.

14) Spurs target a top-four finish.

15) Your skin has gone a funny lobster colour and hurts.

16) Golf seems interesting.

17) Everyone gets excited waiting for the fixture list. Ooh, we play every team twice! Once home and once away! I can't wait!

18) You actually start to miss Alan Hansen.

19) Cricket is the new football. So we're told.

20) You try to convince yourself that the awful player linked with your club has just been misunderstood in the past.

21) And as for those players you've never heard of, well, best check their stats on Football Manager. That'll work.

22) You start to fancy Clare Balding.

23) Sky Sports News is even duller than normal.

24) Fernando Torres is linked with a move to the Premiership. (Note: In previous years, this role was regularly filled by Benni McCarthy).

25) You tell yourself staying up all night to watch the Copa America and MLS is normal.

26) It's Liverpool's year.

27) You suddenly realise you've got a wife and kids and that you haven't spoken to them for nine months. And they hate you.

28) You contemplate seeing if you can find your old Subbuteo set in the loft.

29) You persuade your family this year's holiday should be in Norway just so you can watch live football. Brann are top, you know, and Odd Grenland have only won once. Fascinating.

30) You persuade yourself the Intertoto Cup is really great.

31) You start craving cold lager at 10am every day.

32) You get so desperate that you start watching Eurosport 2 in the hope some football comes on.

33) You find yourself travelling 100 miles on a bus to watch the youth team's reserves playing a pre-season friendly.

34) You realise it's 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and you're holding your missus' bags in Top Shop. And even though she's trying to talk to you, all you're thinking is 'Ooh, I remember when Top Man used to sponsor Leeds'.

35) You love being top four or hate being in the relegation zone. Even though the league is entirely alphabetical.

36) You breathe a sigh of relief when you realise pre-season friendlies start in the first week of July. Because watching your out-of-shape side play Stevenage is just great, isn't it?

37) Newcastle sign 15 players. Only one of them is a defender.

38) You start to work out how many players it would take for your side to break into the Big Four. Then you think how great it would be if you somehow won your first ten games and managed to stay ahead of the rest and be in with a shout of the league.

39) You convince yourself it's worth sticking a quid on it at 2500/1 odds. 50p, at least.

40) You put the other 50p on ManYoo getting relegated at 7500/1. Anything's possible, right?

Thing is, IMO Babel hasn't shown any noticable improvement since he debuted. His goalscoring ability is still low, he doesn't give many assists and his technique is still atrocious. His first touch is horrible.

Btw, I've been playing around with a video editing program (Ulead) today, and I've just completed my first ever video. I wanted it to be short and easy, so I made a compilation of Kluivert at PSV. Click here. Tell me what you guys think, quality wise. I'm really enjoying working with Ulead, its a very intuitive, easy-to-use program. I'll probably end up doing some more compilations of PSV players (got all PSV goals this season on my harddrive).

Apparently neither Diarra or Robinho will be available for Madrid's last game of the season because of international duty. It's not like it's Beckham and Van Nistelrooy missing, but all the same, what a match to miss.

It's La Liga's fault though, why is there season finishing SO much later than everybody else's? I'm not surprised it's clashing with international fixtures. As far as I can tell Italy was the latest of any other decent league (England, Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Portugal) and that was May 27th, a full 22 days before the end of La Liga.

I can't believe they couldn't schedule it to end before the June internationals.

"Spurs for Top 4" and "It's Liverpools year" never get old:lol

But it IS Liverpools year you'll see, the last two years don't count though we was just building up for this year.

And Spurs woulda broke the top four if Hadareud didn't put laxitives in their food for the last match of the season.

Believe it or not I've still got the newspaper of when that happened, I've heard of footballing drama but you could never write that script.

Comedy gold :lol

In Gold Cup action tonight, the US faces off against El Salvador and Guatemala plays T&T. The US has already qualified for the quarterfinals and only need a draw to grab the top seed. El Salvador and Guatemala both need points to clinch a spot in the next round.

I still remember the moment I heard about the food poisoning like it was yesterday... I've never been so happy to hear about the ebola virus in my life!:lol

Rumour has it PSV will sign the talented youngster Slobodan Rajkovic on a loandeal. Rajkovic is currently owned by Chelsea, who bought him in 2005 (for more than 5 mil EUR) and than loaned him back to his club OFK Belgrade. Should be an exceptionally good player.

Here's his wiki. Perhaps a thank you gift from Chelsea to PSV for taking such good care of Alex? ;)

I'm currently uploading a compilation of PSV player Ibrahim Afellay. Should be up any minute now.

US lineup for tonight:

--------------- Dempsey ----------------
--- Beasley ----------------- Donovan ---
---- Feilhaber -- Mastroeni -- Bradley ---
Bornstein -- Parkhurst -- Onyewu -- Spector
-----------------Howard---------------------

USA Bench: Ching, Clark, Twellman, Keller, Mapp, DeMerit, Simek

Crazy stuff. No true forward out there and the youngest backline I've seen in a while. Shouldn't make a big difference, and I'm intrigued how we do in a 4-3-3 (4-3-2-1?).

Wait, is that Heerenveen's Bradley? He made a good impression whenever I saw him play in the Eredivisie.

Man, being at work all day without internet access leaves me in the dust until I get home. I just read three pages of posts to see what went on today. I hope we pick up Malouda as well. It would be nice, considering we haven't signed anyone really big so far.

Must not...post...about...Henry...

I think the only reason Bradley would make a lineup this weird is because we're playing El Salvador. If they don't win by at least 3 I'm disappointed.

Yup, that's him. He's the coach's son, so there are always claims of nepotism, but he's been pretty good for the US this year. He's only 19, but he's a solid 2-way player that will do good things for us in the future.

Bradley deserves to be out there. Right now in the center of midfield we have four guys that can do a decent job (Feilhaber, Bradley, Clark, and Mastroeni), it just depends if you want the more defensively oriented guys (Mastroeni and to some extent Clark) or the ones with a little more punch going forward (Bradley and Feilhaber in particular.) Bradley was ok in NY, but he's really raised his game since moving to Holland.

Heh. That's pretty much par for the course these days, eh.

Ok, I'm signing off for a while to watch the US game. Back on again later.

I was talking about Bob Bradley. I'm a big fan of Michael ever since he was here and am really glad he's getting the caps he deserves.

And damn that post!

Wow, what a thrashing. USA is on. Beasley is a playmaker. Looks like good things for the national team. Hopefully they can continue like this for two or three years and do something when the next world cup comes around. Not likely...lol.

Osorio said:

Ah, ok. That makes much more sense. :lol

Anyway - a tidy 4-0 win for the US. I thought Dempsey and Beasley both looked pretty good. The best part was that aside from Mastroeni and Howard(?), I think everyone in the lineup was 25 or younger. There were a couple teenagers that started, too. :P

Not sure who we're playing next round yet, but the match will be on Saturday at 4pm ET. Things should get more interesting from here on in the tournament as the teams we face will be a lot better.

There's a (not all that strong) rumour that Lakshmi Mittal is looking to buy Birmingham. If you don't know who he is then clearly you don't follow the steel industry as closely as I do, he's the 5th richest man in the world. He dwarfs Abramovich (though in footballing terms it makes no difference, they're both far too rich to ever get to the point of spending on their clubs that it makes the other look poor) with a fortune of £19.25bn. And steel's won the Premiership before (go Uncle Jack!).

It's probably not true, but if it is then Birmingham wouldn't be a bad buy. Not the best, but the location is good to build on. Centre of the country, massive population around them to attract if they become a big side.

Funny thing is, unlike if you buy a top side, you pretty much have to replace the entire Birmingham squad (and probably manager). You've just got to start from scratch. So forgive my indulgence, but I like the idea of coming up with a squad of players from those who might be available. As for how I'd get them to join Birmingham...I'm a 19 times billionaire, I'll offer them ridiculous wages and the promise that if we're not inside the CL within a year they can leave on a free. That oughta do it.

There's also a rumour in The Sun that Arsenal will sign Trezeguet (who's made it clear he's on his way out of Juve) to keep Henry happy. Sounds reasonable, you could even keep Van Persie in the team if you put him on the left wing (though that seems a bit of a waste to me).

It dounds reasonable, that is, up until the point where they claim Arsenal could pick him u for £5m. Hmmm...

Your above post is interesting. I would actually like to see something like that happen. Give some lesser known clubs a chance and at the same time create a mix of players that would actually be interesting to watch.

As for Trezeguet, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd like to see him come to Arsenal. He's a quality player. He had 15 goals this season and I think he scored exactly that many because apparently he promised the Juve boss that many. In his last game he signalled the number 15 to the side and pointed to the exit. As I said, he's quality. I think Wenger could even work with him to put him on the wing. I'd definitely want to see him in the starting lineup if he comes to Arsenal.

I could never imagine Trezeguet on the wing, he's such an out and out striker. Henry and Van Persie would be much more adaptable in that way if one must move. It'd be like making Owen a winger or something (which if I remember correctly, Eriksson tried once).

I think £5m is ridiculous as I can't imagine there wouldn't be competition for him driving the prices up, but he does only have a year of his contract left so he will be cheaper than he should be.

I'd certainly take Trezeguet off Juve's hands...he's a steal at that price. Out and out striker which i feel we need sometimes. All those 25 passes strung together with no one to get on the end of it in the box.

At just 5 million quid. Trezeguet would be perfect for any of the top four.

Man United - They get a new striker at a snip after spending lavishly.

Liverpool - They get a new striker at a snip after discovering they don't have the cash to spend lavishly.

Arsenal - They get the fox-in-the-box they've wanted since, oh, 2001... and keep Henry happy by signing his mate.

Chelsea - They get to screw around with the other three by splashing the cash for no reason other than that they CAN splash the cash.
