I don't think Torres is the finisher Liverpool need. He'd be great as a secondary striker, Rooney style, but I think someone else is needed too. Torres and Owen up front would be excellent.

Then again if Kuyt is one of those "first season ok, second season awesome" foreign Premiership players, he could be that guy.

Don't give away Luis Garcia though, that's just solving one problem and creating another.
 
We're still racking up the posts - well on our way to 15k. Funny how I think this thread may even move faster during the offseason - less to watch on tv and more speculation, I suppose.

What's on tap for today? U21 matches?

The Gold Cup resumes tomorrow and the Copa America rosters are due.

A charity shield won a mere 10 months ago, and at Chelsea's expense no less, which is conveniently forgotten by Mr Special One.

It's hilarious hearing Chelsea folk argue that they have history. Every club has history, but only a dozen or so clubs have a history that's worthy of boasting about. Chelsea doesn't have this, and the sooner they stop trying to compare what they've done in the last three years what other teams have acheived over DECADES, the sooner we might take them seriously. Shit, Nottingham Forest and Leeds have far more history then Chelsea, let alone the rest of the top four.

I don't think Babel wants to leave Ajax at this point, and neither does Ajax want to sell Babel.
 
The Irony is that soon Liverpool are going to parade around the city to Celebrate our 5 European cups again with our Legends in the open top Bus, Chelsea didn't even do that for the first FA Cup triumph in the New Millenium stadium.

I bet even Man U would Celebrate that, even if it was the only cup they won all season.

Martins is contemplating his international future after the attack

Newcastle and Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins escaped uninjured after being shot at while driving in Lagos.

The Magpies striker was attacked by masked gunmen on Monday night, hours after he returned home from Nigeria's Nations Cup qualifier against Niger.

The 22-year-old escaped unhurt but a friend was injured after his Mercedes was sprayed with bullets.

"For a moment I thought I was going to die as they kept shooting at my car indiscriminately," said Martins.

"Those guys wanted me dead - they had no intention of sparing anyone in the car. They were not robbers because after the shooting they left without taking anything from the car.

"I thank God that my friend survived. It was like a movie but I thank God I'm alive to tell the story."

The incident occurred at a petrol station in VGC, a suburb of Lagos, where Martins had stopped to buy fuel.

The visibly shaken striker has now flown to Italy and is reluctant to return to Nigeria for international duty after the incident.

"My mother is scared they could come back again. I don't feel safe here anymore.

"I came home to play for my country and spend my holidays with my friends and family. This is not what I expected.

"I think people will now understand why some players don't feel comfortable coming back to Nigeria from Europe.

"I came home for the game against Niger because I wanted to play for my country and make the people happy."

Martins is not the only Europe-based footballer to be attacked by unknown gunmen in recent weeks.

Benjamin Onwuachi, of Greek side Ionikos, Femi Ajilore, of Danish club Midtjylland as well as Romania-based Ifeanyi Emeghara were all attacked while on holiday in Lagos.

"A lot of things are wrong with the system in Nigeria and when you are helpless you need to go and hide somewhere," added Martins.

"I was born in Lagos, I am a Lagosian but when I don't feel safe in my hometown then something must be wrong.

"It's a great thing to play for your country, put smiles on the faces of people and also feel safe among your family and fans.

"But when the situation gets out of hand, I don't think coming home is something I can contemplate."

Just got off the phone with Sarachan. He said he was called into John Guppy's office at 9:30 this morning and told of the decision. This is a tough business and if a decision to make a change was purely the result of our performances the last couple weeks, I would just say it's difficult to win under these circumstances. But again, this is the business we are in."

Every time I watch American TV channels I notice one thing: You have the WORST commercials in the world. Horrible. They are trying to be funny in an odd way and they really really aren't. It's a bit embarrassing really.

that's definitely handy, I'd like to get Sky+ - it's not like the commercials in the UK are really something I want to watch either.

Holland don't look like scoring at the moment. Not the best time for the worst performance of the tournament.

Yup, all due to the midfield. Maduro is playing REAL shitty, Bakkal as well but he has already been substituted. The midfield is where you make your games.


And England is quite effective in disabling one of our strikers, Rigters.

Commercials in dubai are worse. They're boring and full of crap, a bit like chelsea really.
 
can you imagine a penalty shoot out between Holland and England?

You'd think they can't both go out but if there's anyone who would find a way it's those two.
