If arsenal have agreed a £16 ****ing million deal with barca they are ****ing crazy! Seriously! WTF? That's not even all that much more then we got him for back when he was nothing! Now he's one of the best players in the world and we are getting less then what we got for Anelka! >.>

I agree it's not near enough, but the reason is obviously his age. The reason Charlton can demand as much for Bent as Henry is that he's only 23. A club buying him knows that they could sell him in 4 years time, prime of his career, and either make a profit or get a good amount of their money back.

Henry on the other hand, you're paying for the player only, there's not gonna be any return in terms of a future sale.

Still think they could have gotten £20m even given that though.

Wow. :lol

Shame Barca's letting Saviola go. They could have tried a 2-3-5 formation next year.

obviously nothing is over for us.

People who think that we will now fall behind spurs have another thing coming. We were 4th, comfortably might I add, without or at least only partly with Henry.

The team will be stronger and with a few purchases we will be a lot stronger.

Laugh all you want, we will bounce back. Not in 5 years time but next season

Nobody is bigger than Arsenal, not Dein and not Henry.

wow what a joke :lol :lol

Here's a bit of perspective: Real Madrid signed Zidane (29 then) for 66€.

Arsenal can't even get 30€.

Anyway, good ridance, because the captain acting like a d!!k is no way to win trophies...

Now I have another reason to hate Barça even more :lol .

God I hope they meet in the CL next season. Like when Vieira went to Juve.

Barca might just rotate the 4 I guess, so they'd each start a quarter of the games a season on the bench. Makes sense and shouldn't annoy anyone too much, they'd still start plenty of games a season each and are bound to come on as subs in the other games.

Otherwise I can't see how it'd work. You could play all 4, with two ultra defensive central midfielders and actual full backs rather than wing backs, but then there's no playmaker like Deco in there and that sort of guy is important in getting the ball to those players in dangerous positions in the first place.

Maybe its a chance for Van Persie to shine this season but who would be 2nd striker. Walcott aint the full article yet.

Wow this thread certainly got entertaining all of a sudden, Have to say i agree with the gooners on this board he was the captain and he was acting unsettled the whole time he may as well left last summer atleast you'd have gotten more money for him.

It's Adebayor and Bendtner behind him in the queue. Arsenal are going to need to pick another striker up.

Adebayor :lol :lol As in I cant put the ball in the net :lol :lol

I forgot about Walcott, I'd like to see him take over the role of partnering Van persie as first choice. I don't think that would be best for Arsenal necessarily, but it'd be interesting to watch.

Still need another striker though, Saviola, Trezeguet, whoever.

wtf, I had a shitty day at work and come home to this. Honestly, Henry can go f*** himself. He left Arsenal because Dein left. Cry me a fu**ing river. If that's how you act when the team needs you most, maybe you weren't as great a leader as we thought.

I think things have turned out much as I feared or predicted a week or so ago:

Wenger, just as with Vieira got fed up with the constant shit and got rid of him. I still don't think Henry really wanted to leave, but he didn't think it through.

Maybe it's one season too early, but who cares. With the money from him and Reyes we will buy cover that is more than adequate. We have Van Persie who is on the verge of becoming one of the worlds best strikers and we have Walcott who has the talent to do the same. We need another striker, obviously there's no replacement for players like Henry - but we have to move on.

And we will, Arsenal has existed and won titles long before Henry joined and will continue to do so long after he's gone.

one of the first rumours was that the real reason that Reyes didn't want to be in London anymore was because he and Henry hated each other.

Maybe Reyes will stay now that Henry is gone and he's almost guaranteed a spot up front.......nah...
Unless that whole global warming thing really speeds up, there's no way he's going to stick around.

Oh, and the shops in London stay open past 5.

Once this is all sorted out, I can imagine the Spanish press going after Fabregas. Spanish newspapers are going to have a field day at Arsenal's expense :lol :lol :lol

Oh yeah it's ridiculous. Our team and management are getting ravaged by Spain. I don't even want to think about next summer.

Everyone here still seems to be in shock...... From what Henry was saying on that Korean show I really don't think he actually wanted to go, like Hadareud said........ I wonder what he will say on this once everything is done and dusted..... :-/

I always saw myself going to his testimonial when he finally retired, but, I guess not anymore. :(

What a shame.

it's definitely sad that he wasn't to stay until the end of his career - he definitely would have deserved a testimonial, just like Bergkamp. Luckily I got to go to that one at least.

I didn't even get to go to bergkamp's! My brother was meant to grab me a ticket but his friend had a spare and gave it to him so I ended up missing it entirely. >.> He didn't even tell me his friend had given him one and I didn't find out until it was too late. :(

I went to Keown's testimonial though. That was awesome.

The real I hate Green. >.> lol

Ronaldinho - Henry - Eto'o - Messi.

..

damn.

Just when I thought Real finally got their team back, now Barca has their own Galacticos...

As a United fan it's great news when one of your rivals loses a player that they can not possibly replace. On the face of it has mild similarities to us losing Ruud, but to look beyond the fact we both sold a top end striker in their peak (29) it is a very different situation. Ruud no longer suited our system of play, after we dropped him for the CC final our form picked up massively (and held all the way to the title). Conversely Henry was tailer made for the Arsenal system, there season suffered greatly due to his injuries last term (and other injuries of course). He wont be replaced, they could bring in quality, such as Saviola, but who ever they get it will be a step down, in most cases a very big step down.

Big shame he has gone from a pure Footballing sense, hope we draw Barcelona at some point in next years CL, so I can see him run out at OT again.

It is not like it will finish Arsenal off either, Wenger is a very smart guy there will be singings and they will finish at least top 4. With all the money coming in to the prem he will be well aware its the wrong time to lose riches and notoriety of the CL. A good chance to choose a proper captain too.

it's definitely different, but the team will cope with it. I can't wait for next season and I can't wait to hear the doomsayers then.

I'm in a fighting mood and I'm sure the team and Wenger will be too.

Thats not always a good thing. Real madrid tried to create a team of galacticos and they failed miserably until there was a manager that could sort them out properly.

Ronaldinho, henry, eto'o and messi could work together I guess. Henry and eto'o can play upfront whilst ronaldinho and messi play on the wing. But real madrid showed that its not a matter of players getting in each others way, its a matter of having too many stars who cant play as a team.

This deal is brilliant business by barca, but its awful business by arsenal. How the hell can Henry leave for 16 million pounds whilst sheva left for twice that price at the same age?

I created a topic for a new puzzledonkey, a sort of riddle logic site which seems to have disappeared entirely now, and soon after the forum crashed. Crashed to the point that we had to make one of our many forum resurrections to an entirely different gaf site, and upon returning the explanation for the crash was the puzzledonkey topic had had so many views, presumably for clues, that the servers couldn't handle it.
Can you provide a link to that thread?

Would like to see Anelka come back, him and VP up front could be quite formidable.

I have a sinking feeling Wenger might be off too, especially if Barca sack Rikjaard

I cant see wenger leaving. He's too honest. He's said that he'll remain at arsenal for the remainder of his contract and I think you can take his word for it.

Nope, it was on an old forum iteration. Possibly the last one, maybe the one before that.

goodcow or someone might have it archived, but I don't.

I do too, but the way things are going I just wouldn't be surprised. He only has 1 year left on his contract right?

Yep. Maybe he'l have a good think about his future once his contract expires, but for now, I think he wants to be arsenals manager.
