Official Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Thread

Just to confirm:

Cockpit view = sex

But I thought you could look around the interior whilst driving? Is that in the demo of a demo or will it be in the demo?

It was in the TGS demo, but as I said earlier Polyphony said there's a possibility that you'll only be able to use it if you have a wheel.

I hope they don't force me to buy a wheel, I'm not a hardcore GT player but oh my gosh that screenshot looks amazing. The cockpit view in the demo is already amazing. Having that kind of freedom will be so immersive.

Seems like this will be the first simulation racer I get stuck into.

So I saw in the Sho' Nuff thread that 720p has 4x AA.

I'd been playing in 1080i and the game was jaggy + shimmering + screen tearing + framedrops, which just didn't look very good.

I switched to 720p and the image is very clean and nice. If they can just fix the tearing and drops by December I'll be impressed.

playing it a bit more, one thing I think they need to add is some form of camera control when in cockpit view.

Like, if you are using X/O or the right analog stick to accelerate/brake then have look left/look right on R2/L2. If you have accelerate/brake on R2/L2, have camera control on the right analog stick.

all around it is pretty awesome.

Maybe, when GT5 launches, Polyphony is able to have 8xAA...

Maybe you'll learn the difference between Prologue and the final product by then... And get a new TV... Do yourself a favor, cause I have a 720p/1080i set (Sony HDCRT with the super fine pitch tube), and it's not a jag-fest like other racing games, or shooters...

And then we have people saying KZ2 looks good but there's still Jags... What do these two games have in common? They're not OUT for a while...

As far as physics and "99.99%" of people don't have track time, I can tell you that I track my 04 Evo, and you can tell they heavily revamped the physics system... I can't answer how an 08 Evo X is going to handle in this compared to RL, yet :P, but I can say the cars have a real sense of weight... Be it loading into turns, hitting the brakes, or when heavily accelerating... This in fact, translates into something other sims haven't done well, your lower speed cornering situations of pushing/spinning... Not perfect, but better than what we've had before... I now have high hopes for the way this game handles...

Hey guys, I don;t know if this has been posted yet but I just started the demo up 5 mins ago and GT TV is now available! There's 3 videos there, I'm downloading one right now

Complete noob question (sorry guys):
How do you get the cockpit view? I get about 3-4 views, but I can't seem to get into cockpit view. Thanks.

The Nissan GT-R doesn't have the cockpit view enabled yet, because the real-life car still hasn't been officially "unveiled" to the public. That'll happen on the 23rd during the Tokyo Motor Show.

Sorry, I meant for the PS3 controller. Maybe they'll leave it in as an option that you can set up but most of the buttons are used so I can't imagine how it'll work.

Are you the Apex who posts on Cloudchaser/Modojo?
Same as GT4 with the left/right keys on the wheel.

I don't post on that sites.

Further more, I hope you can see that's it's the interference of HDR. Look at the contrast of the lines you are outlining. Very bright white HDR lighting against reflective surfaces, with a black background. This defeats some AA. There's not much that can be done about this, except changing the lighting to be less harsh. Well that's my view anyway.
It's very easy to fix that problem, unfortunately it's also expensive :)

can someone do a translation to some of the option menus? I mean, like the gt news or whatever. Also, this game (demo) has six axis control?

Wollan said:
Viewing around the cockpit is really the absolute perfect sixaxis functionality. They must do this.

I don't know if this would work.

When turning a corner some people are inclined to 'turn with it', they might tilt the controller without actually meaning too, ending in a horrible crash :D

Wow, the GT-TV stuff is strangely compelling. Can't wait to see the HD videos, although at least the SD stuff here looked good and downloaded pretty fast considering.

how is polyphony gonna model hundreds of these cars with interiors and exteriors that are so gorgeous, oh god its going to be so amazing.

Also it would be cool if they made some DLC like types of cars that aren't normally in GT style games like 4x4s. Mainly because I want to drive my 96' 4runner around a pro racing circuit :P

Expensive in what sense? CPU/memory power?
Memory shouldn't be an issue. It's a matter of performing tone mapping before AA resolve, and not after. AA resolve should work on tone mapped pixels, not the other way around,
but if you do that you end up tone mapping 2X or 4X times more pixels..which is expensive.
There are games that don't have this issue cause they directly output tone mapped
pixels (see HL2).

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Official Website Is Up!

http://www.gran-turismo.com/gt5p/index_en.html

The final two stages better be original tracks/city tracks/rally tracks.

GT4 prologue had:
--Fuji Speedway (zzz)
--Another real circuit (zzz)
--Italy downhill/hillclimb (best track in it, utterly amazing)
--NY (awesome)
--Rally (cool)

So far GT5 Prologue has 3 real courses (zzz) that aren't even as fun/cool as the Concept stage with the tunnel, jump, and hill drift sections. They really need to throw in 1 great city track and 1 great original track with forests/tunnels/nice scenery.

Thanks to RocketPunch from the racesimcentral forums.
I can win races in that crappy stock car racing game at Dave and Busters, but I don't know if I could do that. That was some fine driving, and you can see that the AI really pushes hard. I don't think they're using R3's anymore, just damn fine car control. I really want a wheel now, just for the authenticity of it. PEACE.

No. The AIs continue to use whatever they use regardless of what you use.

Still... this guy is my goal. I have much the same setup, or even better... so one day...
