Official Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Thread

The car unveiling was simply awesome. Are there any gaming sites covering this demo? Can we even call this a demo? I've had more fun with this than some games i paid for on PSN.

What are peoples best times?

My bro is hitting 2'15.621 a lap and 4'37.426 a race. With the GT-R no assists R3 tires.

What times should you aim for?

I just hit 2'05.685 for my best lap and 4'20.123, with the GTR for best race. no assist and R3's (I know, I know, N1's FTW)

what is that panel in the left? me and a friend was trying to figure it out but never could
The two items top to bottom are geforces and steering angle as shown in the bumper cam hud. The other one looks like the bumper cams gas gauge. They might be something different in the real car. I don't think it needs a gas gauge hud for example.

Yep I just verified with in car view. They are doing those things ingame. Including a display of how hard you are mashing the pedal(or the turbos psi)

In that spot on an R34 it has lateral and longitudinal(is this a word?) geforces and can compare them to another saved lap(or drive home)

Yeah, they should do this for more cars. The integrated feeling of all of this gives me high tech future vibes.

The "real time cloth unveiling" was a sweet touch. :D

Man, I'm having a hell of a time controlling these rear wheel cars on the lower grade tires. I can cut the track up with the GT-R and especially the Evo, but the BMW and Lexus have me over steering like crazy. Gotta get used to the revamped physics I guess...

What grade tyres are you using? And what kinda times are you getting on them?

I can barely win with S2 on the BMW, win relatively consistently S3... and S1 is still too much for me :p

Was also pulling 2:35s with N2 tyres on the Evo X.

Down to N3. I'm too scared of the lower N grades. :D I forget my lap times with the Bimmer or Lex, but I can't get past third with either of them even on S2s. I rock with the Evo though.

Funny how the AI using R3s ended up adding a ton of replay value to this little demo.

Ye olde?

GT5 signs deal with Top Gear

Polyphony Digital has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to let you watch Top Gear on your PS3.

You will be able to enjoy up to 40 episodes of the motoring show using the new Gran Turismo TV channel, which will launch on the PlayStation Network sometime next year and feature all the goings-on from the world of cars.

The BBC has also given the go-ahead for the famous test-track from the show to be replicated in Gran Turismo 5, so you can pop on some slightly bizarre music and thrash all sorts of expensive creations around the track just like the enigmatic Stig.

"We're sure that players will be as thrilled as we are when they get the chance to put their own driving skills to the test on the Top Gear Test Track in GT5, as well as enjoying classic episodes of Top Gear via GT TV," said Kazunori Yamauchi, end boss at developer Polyphony Digital.

Unfortunately Gran Turismo 5 still looks to be a long way off in Europe, with only a tentative date of July 2008 mentioned for Japan so far.

But those of you eagerly awaiting it will be pleased to know that a demo for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now on the Japanese PlayStation Store, and all you have to do to get hold of it is create a mock account for the region and begin downloading. But be quick, it will disappear forever on 11th November.

Suzuki Liana for all Bronze in the first license test. GOT TO BE.

There's so much cool shit they can do now that they've got some kind of deal going with TG. Jeremy's already did a part where he compared a car on Laguna Seca to the same car on the real Laguna Seca. More cross marketing like that would be amazing.

Man alive. The GTR is a beast. A monstrous car that needs a manly man to tame it.

Tried driving it with a clutch. Too much to handle. The throttle and brake control needs to be extremely fine.

Speaking of which; guys with the Logitech G25 wheel... how are you playing this?

6 speed H-shift? Do you bother using the clutch? you don't have to... but it really adds something to it... at the same time taking a massive bite into your reaction time :p

I was wondering about jaggies, and I noticed that they are more noticible between some junction/rabbet parts, like between doors or hood and the car. And yes because it's an older build than the TGS one,but that's because the car is not an entire block, but it's actually made by different parts to make damage more realistic.

The GTR unveiling was great and the cockpit view is awesome!

Those cloth physics are totally awesome...wow, the best car unlock sequence ever.

Man, I can't friggin wait for Prologue!

Holy crap that Nissan was awesome. And I just got the STI unlocked too, for those who are curious.

EDIT - Holy crap I'm falling in love with this game. Check out that STI.

I gotta admit, I'm getting my ass handed to me on the demo. I've never been a big GT player before since I didn't own a Playstation for the previous games.

As a new player to the series, it reminds me of Virtua Fighter: simple, challenging gameplay mechanic that is rewarding to master.

Ok I have to say this, THIS GAME IS FUN! The in-car view makes it that way too. It feels really immersive, I'm not just shooting smoke here, it really feels spot on and FUN. WOW.

The Subaru is a monster car for me, the handling is great (and it skids nicely in curves!). I'm not that good at GT5, but I got a lap time of 2'30.625 in it right now.

I really, really try to like the GT-R... it's so fast and it's so damn nice looking... but yet, I can't stand the fact that I suck at driving it.

Try the new STI, I thought that one was easier for the less talented like myself. I drove the GT-R fairly well too, just have to adjust your break times and trajectory to compensate that monsters power.

Wow..this demo is amazing. Can't wait for the other two tracks to be unlocked as well! Amazing.

They won't be in the demo I believe.

Man, this demo is nuts. If they can put this amount of awesome, with cars unveiled during the actual auto show, GTTV and such, I shutter to think what Prologue and the eventual GT5 release will show us. Man oh man.

I had my doubts about them putting together the online and download parts but from what I've seen already, they seem to have a pretty solid back-end in place already. The "Real" Driving Simulator indeed.

Nope, they won't. You can see from the replays that they're not quite finished yet, and even if they were that would be 3/5 of the tracks in the full Prologue.

Shame, mind.
