Official Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Thread

Just as long as you don't expect it to be like Burnout.
Afaik Burnout (along with a few other arcade racers) cheats - the speedometer is not reflective of actual speeds you'd be doing in real life.

Makes you wonder how other devs feel when they see shots like that.

Well there's always next go around right? I know some people were claiming that Polyphony had lost it this generation when they kept releasing GTHD screens instead of showing any real next gen graphic features outside of the resolution. Those people don't tend to come into GT5P threads.

They also know to make you look like you're going fast it's best to put a lot of objects on the road side so you get the illusion of moving at a high speed a lot better. Since GT takes place on race tracks a lot they don't have that luxury.

.

I remember that. I remember some of them saying because GTHD was one car and one track they can render a high res car model and that if there were multiple cars the cars would have a big drop in graphics. GT5 pretty much shut them up. :D

Game Trailers posted a TGS behind hte scenes video.

'gee, so this is what you achieve when you invest a lifetime into perfecting a single game' : )

seriously, though, polyphony are the cutting edge of videogame racers. visuals-wise they're on a plane of their own, and sim-wise their games are very enjoyable, so the best a developer could think to themselves when seeing the productinon coming out of PD is something along the line of 'i wish there was a genre i was that good at'.

When I see PD staffers at work I half expect to see handcuffs connecting them to their workstations. ;) The attention to detail is well past pathological, I hope they were all crazy obsessives *before* they got there. Great for us anyway. :D

They hire Pathological perfectionists such as those with OCD and Aspergers to make the game. The attention to detail is mind blowing.

Cars are photorealistic. But they need to make the environments dirty. It reminds me of a very clean aspetic environment.

PhotoMode shots are bullshots now?

And I think everyone is aware of that btw.

Photomode or not, those are the only pics SCEI is releasing, making you assume game looks like that. Which sadly doesn't.

I know everyone is aware of this, but still very few complain. Meaning PD wont give a crap about the shimmering mess that GT5P currently is.

Except it does, minus the AA, and everyone is aware of that.

:lol The game has seen nothing but constent improvements ever since it was first shown as TGS as GTHD. You remind me of those that said they wouldn't keep GTHD quality with more cars...

Also you make it sound like GT5P looks bad.

This car will be in GT5, apparently.

http://blogs.motortrend.com/6220026...-virtually-drive-our-sema-hero-car/index.html

The occasion was the 5th Annual Gran Turismo Awards, where five vehicles from the 2007 SEMA Show were acknowledged as being the best of their breed. The categories included Best Domestic Automobile; Best European Import; Best Hot Rod; Best Japanese Import; and Best Truck/SUV.

The Best in Show award is down to Mr. Gran Turismo himself, Kazunori Yamauchi. And his choice? Marcel Horn's Audi TT. But here's the best bit. As part of the prize, Marcel's bright orange TT coupe, complete with Lambo-style scissor doors, will be included in an updated version of Gran Turismo 5 next year.

Also a last-gen/next-gen comparison I hadn't heard before.

The amount of data required to represent one headlight of one car in GT5 is the same as that used for a whole vehicle in GT4.

maybe something is up with your vision...because that is a pretty silly exaggeration...yes, the track is bland in parts and the 2d trees are crap, but the cars look spectacular and the shimmering isnt that bad...its either yours eyes or your tv methinks

Hmm but is it really possible to get rid of the shimmer without going on compromises with other aspects of the game?

I mean GT5P is said to already features a high level of AA compared to other competing titles.

But there's the issue of the cars consistent of separate parts creating aliasing between the attachments, the only way to avoid that would be to make a car as one solid object.

Then there's the white lines on the road, unlike competing titles they aren't part of the actual road texture but they own entity creating shimmer and polygon edges but because they are their own entities they also have their own ... forgot the English term, but it's road grip (white strips are more slippery than the asphalt).

It's all about trade-offs and I personally think PD has made the right ones, especially if the cars being split up in objects allows for changing body parts and localized damage modeling (heck I'm not even the one who has screamed for damage modeling).

ttp is perfectionist, but so is PD... So I think that "assuming" that it wont be improved is wrong.

It seems people complain just for the sake of complaining... seriously...

I think Polyphony would be the first to try and improve if they could, and guess what?
They do just that. But as VonGak said, compromises must be made, and I trust Polyphony makes the right choices.

I think people tend to forget the fact that the game runs 60fps @ 1080p with 16 cars.

Check out www.stage6.com and search for Gran Turismo 5. Basically Stage6 is the HD equivalent of youtube. Should work through PS3 web browser once they implement divx/xvid support.

For the love of god stop bumping delicate threads like this asking for information you could easly google. This is like the 3rd time between today and yesterday that I alsmot had an heartattack.

Hmm... about 13 days until Prologue.

Dec 11 right? My 50 dollar Japanese PSN card should do it. Anyone else ready to get it?

Well, apparently they are bullshots when it comes to any game but GT. :D

Also, any word on it supporting multi screens yet? Not that I will run out and get another 2 1080p displays along with 2 more PS3's... I'm just curious.
