Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

Holy shit that escort mission where you
transport the bartender and the sick Zora Prince to Kakariko(sp?) Village
was soooo annoying.
I was stuck in this loop for probably 6 or 8 times because at the last second that damn bird would drop a bomb infront of the caravan. I would be firing so many arrows but nothing would hit. The horse controls didn't help either.

wow so I beat the game @ 42 hours and hours 46-49 tonight of 100% it I've found:

two more warp points wtf???? :lol
WTF I SUCK NEVERMIND

Oh btw the way, the more I come back to this game, the better it feels.

This game has been a mixed bag for me.

The first probably 30 minutes were awesome.

After that it got a bit boring.

It had its moments. Some parts were really cool, others were incredibly boring and linear.

It was only after I finished the second dungeon though that the game really opened up and made me go 'wow'. Basically that's 14 hours in before it got good in my opinion.

Now, I'm loving the game and finding it hard to stop. The game is vast, and there's so much to do. I've just entered the third dungeon, so hopefully it keeps impressing me as much as it has. I've been known to find the dungeons in Zelda games rather 'meh' like. So I'm hoping it keeps me interested because based on what I've played since leaving the second dungeon (a good 8 hours worth of collecting stuff and exploring), I'm almost prepared to call it one of the best games I've played this year.

Only 6 loops? I went through so many I even ended up using my fairy in the bottle. I thought it would never end. And yes, the exact same bird. I wanted to throw my wiimote into the nearest wall and watch it shatter in a million pieces.

I am serious though, where do I go after I beat the fifth dungeon?
Talk to the guy next to the entrance to the first dungeon. The map on the table in the bar always tells you.

Hah, all this talk of how after a while the game takes off is building expectations inside of me.. I've been having a blast from the very beginning so far. :D

I can't devote much time to the game, so I'm still right after the second dungeon, but so far everything has been top quality.

Gameplay, expecially with the wiimote, is fantastic. I can't have enough shooting arrows & pebbles, doing melee combat, wandering around with Epona..

I expecially dig walking slowly towards a group of enemies, taking out the sword while still walking, charge them and lay waste on the whole posse. It's so epic and totally badass!

Sorry about this girlish excitement. Very few games have this effect on me. :lol

I wanted to go back to
the master sword
and accidentally saw the guy there, telling me 'he knew I would come'. I was like, wtf?

Post 6th Dungeon Spoilers

So I'm in that place where you have to kill the 20 bandits, I've got 1 left, and you can all guess what happened from there. Not a huge deal but it was an extra 5 minutes of killing them all again. And it was all worth it for that Illia cutscene, so Ghibli-ish.

I got the gamecube version 2 days ago. Unfortunately Ive not played it much because Ive not had much free time, however Ive got a holiday coming up in a couple of days, sso I should get a lot more playtime. I turned into a wolf for the first time, so Ive not played it enough to make an impression, but so far the game seems to be really good. I love ordon village, the art style of the town and the people give it such a good atmosphere.

I really wanated to get the wii version, but a wii costs $680 where i love and Im not going to pay that price for something that should cost a lot less. The controls on GC are fine, but I want to know how the GC and the wii controls compare with one an other. Which has the better control scheme?

A completely satisfying conclusion. Beautiful, masterpiece.

Has its flaws, but its game of the year for me... no surprise there I guess :p

The one thing that drove me nuts though was the sky city music. Holy crap... that little Ooccoo chant thing repeated every 90 seconds for a 2-4 hour dungeon is enough to drive anyone mad.

I nearly wanted to take out the disc and break it in half the music was that annoying, but I perservered, because the stage itself was pretty cool. Next time through, I'm putting the game on mute as soon as I get to that city though.

The end boss battles... completely satisfying.

Indeed, the whole last dungeon was combat heavy and very awesome for it.

Heh... one of the gated fights (the forcefield pops up and rings you in with a bunch of enemies) had me facing off against 10+ trolls. They all run in at once.... I wait until they get to me... pull out my sword and samurai chop their asses, causing them to all die simultaneously (worth noting that each one of these guys takes about 6-8 hits to kill normally), few more pop up behind me and I whirl around and lay waste to them; then to top it all off, Link does his little twirling resheathing move (the one he does after boss fights).

One particularly amusing scene was after the big spider boss fight... Link goes to do the twirly resheath, camera zooms on his face... and his jaw drops open; the boss's body is dead, but the eye gets up and starts skittering around, while you chase after it and kill it to give you the real ending. F$ckin hilarious.

Damnit I'm stuck in the 6th temple...

Right after you get the Rod, the golden doors are closed .. what the hell am I supposed to do here :|

Move the statue to the next floor. Remember, it has a pretty powerful smash. The rod works on the small statue thingies too.

Well sure but how do I get the doors open?

You know those golden gates, how do I get that statue over there :/.

Smash everything that moves or looks like it should move with the statue.

The only things it can't smash it stuff it can't get to, windows and walls.

Stuck at the total end of dungeon 6.

I'm at the boss door but can't find the key LOL never had that before :D. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

elostyle said:
You warped from one dungeon straight to the next one, didn't you?

I did my share of wandering around. Never purposefully set out to actually explore hyrule in detail, trudging through every bit of the map, but I did manage to get 5 full heart containers and then some from the various smaller pieces around hyrule. I also found inumerable rupee chests that I couldn't open because my wallet was full, got all the bomb bags, magic armor, 2 arrow capacity upgrades and a big wallet. About 30 poes as well.

I'd often get sidetracked, and the times when I did notice something, tried to get it but couldn't, I'd go back to it after I got the item allowing me to access it.

Also, I'd often end my sessions just exploring a bit of hyrule, as opposed to right after a dungeon.

All that said, I still managed to beat the game in 43 hours... I didn't feel like I was rushing at all... but I did get the impression I was going through quiet fast through the dungeons.

If ever I was stuck for too long I would resort to a FAQ though; although the solutions were never a big thing... just a small thing I had been overlooking... except for the friggin statue jumping puzzle for the master sword. Now that was stupid, and I hated that, nearly as much as I hated the Sky City's music.

I'm having a real difficult time with the GC version. The 4:3 screen size and the
un
flipped view is ensuring failure at nearly every turn. I keep wanting to break my GC controller into two pieces too. Gah.

Uhh, can anyone explain to me what the deal is with the
singing statue / ghost wolf thing?
I saw the first one on my way up to
Death Mountain
and tried everything to
play the song,
but nothing worked. So I figured it was meant for later and skipped it. Except that I just read somewhere this isn't the case and that I already missed the
2nd skill upgrade?

I just finished the
Goron Mines
so I can't use the statue, but once I turn into a
wolf
again, I can go back and try it anyway right?

So how exactly do I
play the song/howl?
I couldn't pull it off. :(

Thanks by the way.

You'll be able to revisit it later, yes.

Playing the song is simply a matter of holding down the A button to initiate the howl, then tilting up with the analog stick, tilting down, or leaving the analog stick in the neutral position in order to change your howl's pitch to one of three corresponding levels, as dictated by the song you're howling.

Should be able to warp to those places in wolf form, right-o? A cheap trick I use is I hold the A button when howling and move the stick up and down so I can see where the blue lines are.

Seriously, I play my games to enjoy them.

That means to me; going through them at my own pace. If that pace is hindered because of some slight misunderstanding or whatever reason, then I'll look in a FAQ to find out what I'm supposed to do next.

If you think that's lame, well ok, but I think it's foolish to sit around gnashing teeth because you've made 20+ attempts at trying to find that next trigger, only to have missed a tiny little detail. (For example, there was a room in the latter stages of the game where you can't travel back to the path that you came from... but the way to the next room is relatively clear. For some reason, I thought it was the path I couldn't get to (get back to really) was supposed to be where I was headed, and spent 20 minutes trying to figure it out. Got frustrated eventually and realised I was actually facing the wrong direction (as far as where I should go next)).

To be sure, I don't give up immediately and consult the FAQ; there have been plenty of situations where I couldn't see the solution within the first five minutes, but perservered long enough to solve them myself, even though I was tempted to check the FAQ.

So, I balance frustration and fun with the help of a FAQ.

I really suck at finding gold bugs.

Usually I tell myself 'to explore Hyrule for quite a bit'. I start off, find about 2 or 3 secrets and then start thinking 'aaah, screw it, time for that later on'. And off I go to the next dungeon.

Although, really, the secrets that I do find are awesome.

Near Eldin:
Fire-inspired mini-dungeon-like-thingy, with the fall-down-and-quickly-put-on-boots trick and the ice-inspired one with the block-puzzles.

Also, something with Dungeon 4's level item:
Near Hyrule castle, you can use the spinner, get up along a wall, fly to the other side and hop left and right. Took me quite long till I really got it... But thank god, it worked and I was rewarded with a piece of heart! That's what makes Zelda so awesome.

When's the OST coming? I NEED IT.

Xrenity, you're a good man for continuing to use spoiler tags.

KEEP DOING IT please, people - I'm only between the 4th and 5th dungeons... :lol

10 hours in and just beat the second dungeon...I was :lol because it actually gave me more fits trying to defeat the
mini-boss than it did the final boss whom I beat on my first try.
Time to get the
Hylian shield, bombs and go to the place marked on my map where the first howling stone told me to go before heading off to dungeon #3 region.

Awesome game. It's what Wind Waker should have been....

Where is that? I didn't get the marking for some reason =(

It's funny - one the one hand, after you have a few bombs
and the ability to warp anytime (well, almost anytime)
, the world just opens up tremendously, and there's enormous incentive to explore/fudge around in the overworld.

On the other hand, the story's so freaking awesome that I find myself almost not WANTING to go explore, just because I want to see what happens next. :lol

One thing this game has definitely resolved from Zelda games past is to simply give the player options in terms of travel. Most recently, (post 4th dungeon spoilers),
after completing the Howling Stone on Snowpeak, you fight some Twilight Creatures right by the Yeti, opening up a portal.
I didn't exactly want to run all the way back to
Kakariko
by foot, (if that's even possible without
repairing the bridge
, and I didn't have to, because I had conveniently opened up a warp point.

By the way,
Jump Strike
freaking rocks.

Also, did the
Mortal Draw
give anyone else major Samurai vibes? In traditional Samurai combat, the combatants were supposed to
kill each other with a single, perfect blow.

ARGH!!!!! I just completed the Sky Book Collection shit, and every time I'd get one of those orange rupees, I'd warp back to K. Village to donate to that bridge fund. Now I'm sitting at 0 Rupees and need 300 to "begin" repairs on the Sky gun? **** you, Nintendo. What's the quickest way to earn rupees? I HATE money/stats grinding shit.

Go to Lake Hylia. Go to that creepy guy's cannon thing. Do a normal flight. Go to other creepy guy. Fly down over Lake Hylia, and land on the rotating platform. 100 rupees. Go down on the platforms underneath it. You'll get 70 more rupees (or more... I forget). Do this over and over again. You'll need 30 rupees altogether to do this in the first place though. But you could just get those in the mini-dungeon at Lake Hylia.
