Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

Just finished the 3rd dungeon. It rocked, but I kept hearing about
all the great cutscenes or whatever between the 3rd and the 4th dungeons, and well, I've gone up to the master sword
and nothing of really big interest showed up. So did everyone know that you could
use the fishing rod in the 3rd dungeon to catch those damn little fishies? It doesn't show up in the log book because it says it's an illegal fish or whatever. I thought it was funny.

Zant being a badass and the creation of the twilight realm were great cutscenes

I honestly felt like this is what my GC was made for. If it didn't get this game, then its spirit would haunt me for eternity:D . I actually felt like I owed it this one last swan song. And oh my word, is it a swan song and a ****ing half. For those trying to get a Wii version. The game is epic on too many levels. I can't justify words like awesome, excellent, AAA really good. Its just epic. Everything about it, from the continuous art in every room your in, to the graphics, to the characters, to the lessons of life to learn from the characters. And you wonder how did they fit all that into a GC disc. Its way bigger than RE4 and that needed 2 dicsc. The twilight world is ****ing ingenious, Midna is the most interesting character in a game. From the design of her/him it, to the way it comes out to you, Midna's language (the sounds it makes when it talks) its so so cool. You get this vibe, that it couldn't have been done any other way, like its perfection, like it all fits together all so well. I was in awe when I
came back to see the ordan village, in the evening and afternoon, and when there is little light,
it looks so good. And thats just the beginning of the game. And don't worry about the GC controls, they are real tight. Even the games physics are amazingly tight. Like when Link climbs the vines and stuff. WOW. I could swear that almost throughout the game there seems to be like
atmosphere, like fog and humidity, and steam.
You also get the whiteness from very strong sunny days, like the air is filled with pollen or something.
I really don't understand how a game like this can get 9.1, 8.9. This should be the blueprint for epic games. In fact the Bible, it can't be beaten. Surprisingly the storyline isn't so linear either. You have to work to find things out. You have to put 2 and 2 together.
Like I still don't understand, why people can't see me in the Twilight world.
Also
if the twilight world is in the same space/time then where did it exist before all this happened.
I would actually appreciate it if someone could explain, or if it is going to be explained later then just say that much, also, say when, so I know when to expect it. I have just finished the 1st dungeon. I played this straight around 8 hours man. Thats crazy, I am addicted to finish it. I just can't let it go. I have an essay to finish, that I haven't even done the reading for let alone starting the damn thing.

I just the beat the game last night but what on God's green earth was the ending about?

Ganondorf just stood there while the lights faded in his eyes with the Master Sword stuck in the chest?!!!????

Credits rolled and saw the small clip about Princess Midna purposefully shattered the mirror gateway to the realm of twilight knowing Ganondorf might use this an escape to build up power and domination of light and darkness.

Now that the one way ticket has been shattered that'll leaves him stuck in this light world.....

So, that leaves me thinking about the future prior to wind waker timetable. I believed the power of the Triforce somehow puts Ganondorf into hibernation until his body reheals itself and possibly tricked everyone thinking he's dead then comes back stronger and successfully took over and causes the godesses to flood the Hyrule continents .....if nintendo continued this timeline toward wind waker.

OOT..... TP...... Ganonforf successfully took over (new zelda game)...... then the Wind Waker.

Well, that's my point of view even though it's not logically correct on my part that i know.

I know everyone has a different views on the ending so i was wondering for those of you who beat the game like to tell me what you think happens.

Question:

What the hell is the point of that stupid
dog bone you first see as the wolf when you enter Hyrule Castle village area on the way towards the 3rd dungeon? You see it yet again when you find the Tears of Light as Link.

Just curious..

so what games are we gonna play on this Cube ??

why Zelda of course!

zelda2mn6.jpg

zelda3rz3.jpg

it's realtime, not a pre-rendered CG, it waas confirmed many times. the world is in awe. We all cannot wait to see what the overworld looks like. how would Nintendo make a huge game with such high-quality visuals??? the Zelda demo was said to only show what GameCube was capable of, not gameplay, but certainly Zelda would feature a huge world with richly detailed graphics and be kind of like a next-gen Ocarina of Time.... it would be great.. amazing. stunning.

fast forward to SpaceWorld 2001

and here it is...... the GAME we've all been waiting for to play on GAMECUBE!!!!

years of disbelief, happiness, sadness, rage, joy and many other emotions would surround ZELDA for GameCube.

then one fine May 11th day in 2004.....a sequel to the cartoon Wind Waker is expected to be shown. everyone is like, ok i hope this one is longer and has the dungeons that were cut out of the first one. I hope there's less sailing....

Uh, what? I just saw the
Zant
one. Or maybe you're talking about the one between the second and the third dungeon? Anyways, I still think it doesn't explain much.

I was surprised to see how detailed
Ganon
looked when he was revealed after the 4th dungeon. Quite a bit better than in the
Spaceworld 2000
video.

the one between the second and third was the creation of the twilight realm. Then there was Zant just **** owning everyone (after you'd beaten the third dungeon). I thought those were great.

Spoiler tag that whole thing and give a warning to where the person should be at.

But yeah. His design was great. Loved that he was sorta half-OoT Ganondorf, half-TWW Ganondorf

He looks MUCH better. He looked like an EVEEL plastic "Ben" doll or something in the old thing

Just spoilered the whole thing to make it easier. :)

Update the quote with Oblivion's updated post, it's not too hard to tell what he's talking about :)

My only problem with Zant :
When you meet up with him he's really made out to be badass, the moment where he takes off his mask and you see his fangs was just sweet. When you finally reach him though, he's suddenly all goofy. It was a sweet sweet boss battle, but I was just confused by the sudden change.

I think he was goofy initially, but Ganondorf having possessed him and using him as a puppet made him a badass, but when Ganondorf was able to regain his power and left Zant's body, Zant reverted back to his old self.

"My sweet darkness" :D ; Yeah, that was really my problem too. He went from this bad ass villan to some pecanjob. Really, it's like Ganon was just thrown in there at the last minute after his introduction after Dungeon 4. Twilight Princess could have easily existed without him. They should have had Zant in it more, and added a dungeon after Hyrule Castle to fit everything together. Oh well

please don't laugh or outright dismiss what im gonna say before hearing me out.

technically, in terms of raw graphical power, demo specs and whatnot, the SpaceWorld 2000 demo, the Link vs Ganondorf fight is more graphically advanced than
the final battle between Link and Ganondorf in Twilight Princess
. that's not an opinion, it's a technical fact. the SpaceWorld demo runs at 60fps, has somewhat more advanced lighting, much better animation and much higher polygon models. so it's pushing much more graphically than Twilight Princess's final battle. with that said, the artwork in Twilight Princess is vastly superior. the atmosphere in the final battle in TP is vastly superior, and overall it looks cooler, and above all, you play it, not watch it. so that's the reason most people would say the final battle in TP is far better than the old SpaceWorld demo fight.

now, go put in the GameCube version of Soul Caliber II into your GC, play Link vs Nightmare
(dark armor version) and play in the Castle courtyard stage. that is closer technically to the final battle in TP. in SCII you have 60fps, exellent animation, great lighting, sharp textures, and high polygon models compare to what's in Twilight Princess.

without rolling your eyes, that's what I wanted to say. none of these things takes away anything from the complete awesomeness of Twilight Princess, a game that I would give a 9.5 at the worst, but often find myself giving a 10/10 and Game Of The Year or Game of The Decade (so far) award.

Just finished, about 50 hours total.

This game was just so... amazing. It had almost everything that I wanted in a Zelda game. The temples were some of the best (number 7 is probably THE best) that have graced a Zelda title, the story was very well done and the gameplay was just absolutely bliss. You know a game captures you when you want to play for 20 minutes, then look up at the clock and you've been playing for 4 hours. It's just that immersive and has that quality to draw you into the game like very few do.

It's weird, I have so much on my plate game-wise to play, and I just can't get motivated to do anything else because I just want to sit down and play this through again. I just bought Gears of War which is sitting there in its packaging, I've gone through about 30 hours of FFXII which I stopped once the Wii came, I have Trauma Center and Red Steel which have only a few hours logged in, my friend bought me Fire Emblem:POR, but I don't want to do any of those. I just want to play more Zelda.

One of the best games of all time.

Alright, Snowpeak Ruins rocks and I finally starting to come around on this game. It was incredibly slow at the beginning but this is getting good. Real good.

Just starting that now, but temple 4 was the best one so far, and among the funnest in the Zelda series I've seen.

Is there any point in continuing to play that rollball game (fishing pond) after being Lv. 1? Beating 2-8 gave me nothing and so I won't play 3-1 etc. until I know there's some eventual reward.

So i finally got my wii been playing some red steel, a lil wii sports then i put in this game WOW it is amazing and i am saying this after spending like 20 minutes getting that damn fish argh but anyway i aint even got a sword yet and i can't deny the beauty of this game.

If you beat all of them (I think they go up to 8-8 or something), you're able to go back to specific levels and play them. Also, when you beat them I think Hena fully refills your wallet.

Does fishing in the fishing hole actually net you a reward for catching big fish (I will stop saying fish now)? I went there for a while and got the inevitable
bottle and heart piece
, but for actually catching the loach and the like, I don't know what you get.

a realtime movie running on GCN hardware. true it was not a game at all.

but Soul Caluber II on GCN proves that level of graphics is do-able and playable on GCN.

I wish that for the closed-in boss fights which are confined to small areas, they could've have upped the graphic level for dramatic effect. although I suppose that would be a jarring, disjointed experience going back to less detailed, less smooth visuals for the wide open areas.

maybe for Zelda Wii.

The postman may be my favourite character in anything ever.

Btw does anyone else think that the shaman dude in Kakariko
may be a descendant of the Rito Tribe from TWW, his robe is damn close to what they wear

Or I guess I could be talking out my ass.

For people who have played the Gamecube and Wii versions: Which do you prefer?

I have both, and I cannot choose a favorite. they each have their better aspects in terms of control.

the GameCube version seems harder. not because of the controls, but it seems more difficult in places.

Gamecube version has a camera that you can move/pan around in 3rd person, although not to the degree of freedom as in Wind Waker.

GameCube version suffers from framerate drops below 30fps very often, but its not awful.

a few moves are handled differently on Gamecube, you can do 2 or 3 spin attacks in a row, if you rotate the analog stick rapidly, but its not easy to pull off. you can do a backflip of Epona, but doesnt serve any purpose.

aiming projectiles is much better on Wii, but things are more even on both versions when using Z-targetting.

the lack of widescreen in the GameCube version does not bother me at all. they both have 480p which matters more IMO.

it's fun playing both versions because everything is mirrored, makes it somewhat more different

Gamecube sword/shield/combat is more precise because of the standard controls. although i like shaking the nunchuck to do the spin attack on Wii.

textures seem the same on both versions.

i might be wrong, but there are a few places were it seems the Wii version throws more enemies at you on screen at once: #1 just before the 2nd boss, where you fight a dozen or so foes. #2 a certain point where you are fighting your way into the
desert fortress
to get to the 4th dungeon, around where the pigroast and tents are.

lighting is the same in both versions.

fishing is good in both versions, the Wii adds less to the experience than some have said, although it adds something to the experience. fishing on both versions is great and i havent done everything on the Wii version which ive finished.

4th dungeon boss fight, 2nd phase, seems significantly tougher on GameCube.

soo many other things to say. seems like ive said there are alot of differences. they are all relatively small.

I recommend spending $107 including tax to have both versions if you have a Wii.

TheIkariWarrior said:

I haven't played the GC version. But I can easily see this being the case.

The combat on the Wii version just doesn't feel right. And the shield bash is horrible. However the spin attack is fast and works perfectly.

Just got to the
lakebed temple
.

I've had more 'Holy shit' moments so far than in any other Zelda, and by all impressions Im not even nearly half-way through. The scope of the game is Godly, on so many levels. But Im also so glad that the
twilight sections are over and done with.
. They're not 'bad' per-say, but I dont think they just dont compare to when Link is in human form. Im looking forward to the rest of the game being devoid of this. Again, theres just too much good to say about this game, and I know I havent experienced the real meat yet. I dont know if I will ever play another full-fledged Zelda game in my lifetime- due to the position I am in- so Im going to savor every minute of the experience.

BrandNew said:
This I do agree with. I mean it makes sense with how to do it, but somehow it just doesn't work to well...sometimes it confuses it with the spin attack.

I was jutting the nunchuck forward when really it works best to hold it so its vertical in front of you, then move it down and away from you in an arch. It won't confuse it for the spin attack that way...

I only figured this out when I started encountering enemies that required me to repel attacks mind you, quite late on in the game.

Yep, you can backflip off Epona in the Wii version as well, by dismounting near enemies. It's not quite worthless, since it's faster than your normal dismount AND while flipping he readies his shield and unsheathes his sword. So by the time he lands, he's ready for combat.

It's pretty ****ing badass, actually.

Dunno what you bastages are complaining about regarding the Wii shield bash. Couldn't be easier. I flubbed with it once or twice as I got used to it, but beyond that, I can execute the spin slash or shield bash with 100% accuracy. Helm splitter, yay!

You know what I miss?

The occasional side-flip Link would do when executing a regular jump in Majora's Mask. I wanted to see that return.

Being able to do a backflip dismount anywhere is so useful, I think I would probably go crazy playing the Wii version (when I'm riding Epona) because of that, it's alot faster than having to stop and press A to get off.
