Just finished the 7th dungeon.

Anyway, a couple of questions for those who have finished the game and/or gotten 100%:

1)
Do dungeons 8 and 9 have heart pieces in them?

2)
Do you get a full heart container after dungeon 8?

1) Yes (2) and no respectively

2) Yes

So I went and met Hena for the first time ever a few minutes ago...

Yup, just got access to the waterhole, and it is by far the most gorgeous area of the game yet.

So I'm stuck in the forest temple. I have three monkeys and no boom rang. I found the foruth monkey but he's in the room with the tile-monsters. I think I explored everywhere i can. Can someone help me out.

You need 4 monkeys for the boomerang. There is a key in the room with the fourth monkey. Then use the lantern to light the torches and raise the stairs.

Is
Rollgoal
even in the GCN version? If so, how is it?

Yeah, it's there, I just completed it
Level 1-8. I thought there were more though, I thought I remembered somebody talking about level 2-1 on it or something
. It's fun, the controls in the GC version are really nice overall, imo. Aiming feels exactly right. I haven't played the Wii version, but I have zero control complaints on the Cube Zelda.

7th dungeon spoiler warning I for one did not enjoy the
Sky Temple ~ City In The Sky with the exception of the fun grappling down to get the big key. As well as and the awesome bossfight in the thunderstorm having to graple up the steel monolith-like towers. the design of the Dragon itself was not that great IMO, reminded me of Ridley in Metroud Prime, however the atmosphere and gameplay of the fight was awesome.

yes of course it's in the GCN version. its less unique with the GCN controller, you use the analog stick of course. but it might be easier. the Wii version shows off what the Wii can do better than fishing or targeting slingshot, arrows or the other items.

damn, it's such a big difference. In the composite you can't even see the fairy.

chill, im kidding

composite to component is a huge difference. the difference you see in those comparison pics is nothing to what its really like.

what is a small, pretty insignificant difference to me are running in progressive scan, and widescreen. I prefer 4:3 since both my TVs are 4:3. progressive scan is fine, but it doesnt make much difference to me. just having component, even in interlaced mode, is good enough. but I do turn down the sharpness on my TVs to about 1/3 or 1/2 to make it some of the graphics look less jagged.

it is ABSOLUTELY worth it to get say, the $25 React component cables at Best Buy.
don't bother with the $50~$60 cables from other companies, they're not worth it.
get either the React or Nintendo cables. or even the cheaper ones, as long as you dont have to wait long. best option seems to be, goto a Best Buy store for the React ones.

I have 4:3 Sony 32inch WEGA 480p/1080i CRT from 2001 which does not do 720p, and also a cheap but decent 4:3 Panasonic 20inch 480i CRT from 2004. both showed great improvement when upgrading from composite to component. before I got the Wii component cables, and when I had the GCN version, I couldn't stop playing the GCN version because my GCN already had component hooked up. even my dad, who is not a gamer at all, said the difference was like night and day.

Okay, I beat 2 dungeons yesterday, the 5th and 6th. The boss battle music for the 5th temple rox.

The 6th dungeon,
The Temple of Time, was really cool. I loved the atmosphere. And the music was completely ripped from the N64 version. I mean it sounds exactly like it, with no new instruments or nothing. Just thought to mention that.

So now I'm on my way to the 6th dungeon.
How the **** do I get to the guy in Kakariko Village who will help me get there?

Beat the game a few minutes ago. I went into the final boss fight with just 8 hearts, and finished with 4 left, after finding two fairies in spots during the boss fight. Really, the fight finished it off perfectly. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end a Zelda game. This really is the pinnacle of what gaming is.

It was set up really well. Couldn't think of a better place to have it too.

Have you
talked to Renado or Telma yet
? There's a small fetch quest you need to complete.

And I know you meant 7th dungeon. ;)

Also, have you
gone around to the statues
?

Guys, is the
Hawkeye
always available or just before the
Malo shop in Kakariko turns into the fully fledged Malo Mart
? If so, how can I get it? A friend didn't buy it right away and he's having a hardtime in the
Hidden Village
without it. Thx in advance.

I completed the game without getting that item. I had no problem in the HV without it. damn that was fun, and i wish it had been more difficult.

p.s. hey, did I word my reply well enough that I didn't need to use spoilers?

Yeah me neither, I just barged right in and starting killing every enemy by sword

Yeah, its just that my friend is a Zelda n00b and the item would help him a lot.

p.s. reply: very nice indeed

I'm in Taiwan, and just decided that I need this game now. Yeah, I'm like that. Anyway, I can easily pick up the Jap. version here (GC), but it's impossible to find the US version. I guess I could use Ebay, but I'd have to wait a week for shipping, and it would show up after my xmas break.

Anyway, I understand no japanese, but with the help of the occasional FAQ check do you think it would be difficult to get through this game? I've been through OoT @ 5 or 6 times, so the mechanics wouldn't be an issue, just the story and the dialogue hints. Is it worth it to wait for the US version to show up?

Haha, yea meant the 7th one, my bad.

I've just gotten the invoice from Telma. And now I need to know what to do.

Oh, and I've only gotten 2 sword techniques so far. I seemed to miss quite a bit. :/

If I copy my saves over to the SD card, can I replace the savefiles on the HDD with the SD savefiles? (Just want to fool around with one of the saves on the hdd)

deliver it to Renado.

and get some sword techniques. They're ultra badass

Previous pics showed some kind of Doshin giant in Zelda. Is he there did I miss him?

I was actually referring to something else when I said
statues
(you'll see), I got things a bit out of order in my head.

But yeah, go do those
howling stones. Getting all of those really adds some freshness and variety to combat

you did not miss him, he isn't in the final game. there are quite a few things shown in the trailers that are either not in the game at all, or are changed/redesigned.

yes agreed. one could also say that, the giant is replaced in another area
the Yeti of Snowpeak Top & Snowpeak Ruins / his giant mansion / the 5th dungeon

these guys are not in the game either

(kinda glad they aren't, they sucked)

this amazing scene is also not in the game

Im at
snowpeak
, and have
six of the hidden skills.
Im finding it very unfortunate that as awesome and bad-ass as they are (never has link had finer swordsplay) not once have I needed to use them- Ive done it purely for the hell of it. Someone please tell me that Im going to have to start taking advantage of them soon, and that Ill meet enemies on a consistent basis that cant be easily cur through by simply swinging. Its a shame if they are not utilized.

Okay, I just finished the
Temple of Time
. I loved it! Everything minus the final boss was awesome. The miniboss kicked about a thousand times more ass than the end boss did. Someone please tell me you get to fight creatures like him again. The only thing i liked about the end boss was Link's facial expression when it was finished. LMFAO.

I've got two more sword skills to get and 1 more of what I'm collecting now.

No...
They will speed up defeating enemies though,
And sometimes save you from being hit.

Just finished it.

I was dissapointed that

I thought she

Don't really know why that bothered me, it just did.

Remember, that if Ganon dies he dies, he talks about it in his monologue after the battle with him in the Twilight Realm. Cause remember you pretty much killed him, the only thing keeping him alive is Ganon.

Those are Iron Knuckles, a staple in the Zelda series, there will be a lot more of them.

I gotta ask if I missed the boat on GC TP. Held out for the Circuit City deal which was awesome at $38, but my place of former employment was so backassed all the stores I visited sold out after a day or didn't get them. Still listed as out of stock on just about every major retailers website and not even listed on Nintendo's online store. Was it a limited print run and I am now forced to trudge through used game bins to get my GC's swan song?

No you didn't miss the boat, there are probably some stores in town that do have some copies, but there being a limited amount is probably just a product of the holidays. If you're willing to wait, I bet there will be a good amount of copies available after the holidays.

What a gorgeous piece of art.

Ok, took a break from the temples and have spent the past few hours on sidequests- and damn, is there a whole bunch.

Finally finished the malo mart sidequest, and can buy the magic armor. Damn that quest cost alot of $, but was pretty damn cool. His new store is insane looking.

Decided to look around Gerudo, and stumbled upon that bridge. Took it back, and went back to discover a hole. Yes, cave of ordeals! First time I see a fairy queen too- is this the only place theyre at? One thing I find ironic (and has also been the staple of the Zelda series) is whatever you need skill to accomplish, gives you nothing more than something which makes the game even easier. I mean, do I really need fairies at the springs? And do I REALLY need them at more than 1 spring, for defeating more floors? If I can warp to one, I can warp to them all. Just wish the bonuses were cooler and less useless.

Whats awesome though is for some reason I feel like Ive beaten the game- Ive seen so much, and usually dont spend much time on these sidequests until after Ive beaten a Zelda. When I remember Im only at the 5th temple, I feel joyful.

The
Temple of Time
was pretty cool, but too short and easy. I wished that the bosses had more of everything up their sleeve because they never surprise you once you figured out their WEAK SPOT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE... *sigh* ...and now my
rod
is out of
juice
;)

Ah well. I hope the next temple will be a blast.

(EDIT) GAH! I forgot to kill a poe that was behind a fence. Can I return later on when my newly acquired item is charged up again or is it to late?

But isnt it even better, when you dont HAVE TO use such skills?
Imo, a technique becomes lame as soon as it is the only possible way to defeat an enemy.
But yes, there are enemies, where you have to use em or they are several times more difficult to beat.

Ok, just finished the game:

What's up with that last dungeon? Areas I never visited, still locked doors? What? And the last boss seemed so easy... exhilirating, but easy. And how come no save after I finished it? no star on my file? Or do I need an empty slot? - because the last time I saved was about 2 hours before, before I went into the castle.

Bad news --

I didn't save at any point during Hyrule Castle either. You've got to do the whole thing again. I mean, it'll be a lot easier, when you know what you've gotta do -- like those blasted wall hanging pictures, and that room where you blow out the torch... but I hate those little battle-ring things you're forced through.

As for your file after completion: It doesn't do anything with empty slots, and I'm surprised it didn't put any indicator next to my file as well.. like the number of deaths or something.

I have noticed that I'm missing something from the inventory as its displayed on the file select though. Maybe if I get it *THEN* complete the game again?

edit: As for the areas you never visited?

Is it a room by the big bosses door? There's quite a little bounty in there. Optional rooms around the side of the first floor and outside the castle?

I like having an indicator. I'm pretty sure I got all items...I had twenty hearts, and had finsihed the cave of ordeals before I went into Hyrule Castle (making it really easy - Iron Knuckles are easy to beat. As for rooms I didn't visit, yeah, that little bounty.

impressions overall? Amazing game, but somehow it DOES feel like OoT Redux. What sticks in my mind is Jeremy (?)'s comments fromt eh 1up show "first feels like OoT redux, but then later changes and becomes very different" - well, to me it feels like it's simply trying to be OoT the whole way through. It certainly has better graphics, animation, overworld etc...but I think the dungeons are not as good. MAybe it's just nostalgia speaking, but the dungeons felt way too linear in TP. I love having huge central rooms and revisiting the room from a different angle later in the dungeon. The las dungeon had a cool atmosphere, but lacked in terms of layout design, as did most, I reckon.

I was really hoping this would be the OoT killer- and in many ways it is - side-by-side, I guess TP could be considered a 'better' game...but to me OoT was not bested. If there was any game that was going to topple OoT as my favourite game ever (which sits atop alongside Majora's Mask), it was going to be TP. But it doesn't, so now I believe no game will ever beat it. :( In some ways, I think I enjoyed Wind Waker more than TP. 8.8

Ok, I'll be more direct...do you think I'll still understand the story if I get the Jap version?
Will I be able to (generally) figure out what to do?
Will I still enjoy the game? This series is all about phenomenal gameplay, so the language barrier shouldn't be a big deal, right?

Excellent game. Had to play with composite cables :( since nothing else was available here for launch, but enjoyed it very much. The art is very lovely, imo, and the (low) resolution doesn't really detract from the experience. I've read a lot of complaints about the sound, but even though it was synth it certainly had a lot of oomph to it on my good old stereo setup, and I definately enjoyed the most of it. :) I especially liked
the Kakariko village tune and the music that plays when you do the boat race
.

If I should put my finger on anything, it would be
the lack of mandatory non-dungeon things to do between the last few dungeons (maybe because I went ahead and did most sidequests early in the game...)
. Oh, and also the use of 16bit colour was a bit annoying resulting in some not-so-smooth gradients here and there.

P.S. I completed in 55 hours, or 5 days (university christmas break ftw), but still have some side-quests to do.

Just about to finish my second play through and although the game is amazing there are some areas of concern:

1) The whole fetch the tears of light in the beginning of the game. Collect-a-thons are not fun anymore, infact they weren't that fun to begin with.

2)The fetch quest before the 7th dungeon, also not very fun.

3) I can not be the only one disappointed by the lack of mini games. This game feels like there is hardly any. Where is the archery range? The bomchu mini game? Swimming mini game? What about horse racing? Considering the size of Hyrule it would have been awesome to have a long horse race competing against a few other people. Epona seems rather useless once you can start warping everywhere.

4) I know this hasn't been done before but how about including a hard mode after you beat the game.

All things considered, I love the game but with a game this good, the ideas are endless!
