Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

I haven't finished the game yet---
I'm in the temple in the sky right now
, and next to LoZ:2 this is my favorite Zelda game. I really can't see how OOT is better than this. I won't comment on everything, but, I will talk about the bosses so far.

I expect a hell of a lot more when it comes to bosses after playing various games in which I won't mention. There has never been a hard boss in the 3D Zelda games, so, I won't knock TP for having easy ones. That being said, I felt as though the Midbosses were a lot better than the main ones (minus the one in the
Desert
Temple. He was easy, but, the ****ing design owned hard, so, he gets a pass, lol). The midboss in the
Desert temple and Temple of Time
destroy every last single boss in the 3D games and most of the 2D ones. They should have become regular bad guys and got way more play time than the main baddies I have beaten so far.

I think when the next game comes around they need to really look into making the games accessible, but, a little more difficult. That and the bosses need to, you know, act like bosses instead of little bitches with Heart Containers.

Just finished the 3rd dungeon. That must have been the easiest boss so far....

I just did the same. I'd say the entire dungeon was the easiest one so far. But that didn't bother me. I also enjoyed it more than any Zelda dungeon so far.

I loved the game, I just hate that you need five heart pieces to get a heart. I only need ten more heart pieces and 6 more poes before I totally completed everyting.

The seventh dungeon is so unbelievably great it puts all the others to shame. It's long, it bulks with creativity, the setting and sense of grandeur is unmatched. The item (or rather
the reinvention of the hookshot
is so great I want it in every subsequent Zelda game. I haven't even completely beaten it yet, because occoco doesn't seem to work in this level. I took a break when I probably had to do one more thing to get to the boss room (
get the clawshot-able fans turning
) and now I have to go all the way back to the top floors.
This dungeon... my definite favorite part of the game.

I really liked the boss in the 4th and 7th dungeon (7th dungeon boss was awesome because although easy fight the scope was amazing just felt epic.) and of course the last set of boss fights owned imo.

Terrible? No way, it's still very playable today.
Though some of the mechanics are a bit unrefined and dated.

No, it isnt. I tried about a month ago. I managed to force myself to the end of the deku tree before I quit, nautious. Its not the visuals. Its the utter lack of freedom, the incredibly limited method of fighting and moving. It was fantastic for the day, groundbreaking, but to say the combat and movement, and gameplay mechanics hold up after WW and TP? Sorry, no.

I agree completely. That dungeon absolutely blew me away. AFter I beat it, I saved in a different slot just so I can go back and play through it again :P

I'm just entering the
Twilight Palace
this game really took off after the
Arbiters grounds
, altough the textures have improved since windwaker it still looks bland in some places. Especially when you enter the
sacred grove
, the
temple of time
really looked N64'ish in some places. Just a monotone texture plastered onto a wall...

Speaking of the 4th dungeon, I just got there. Pretty cool. I got to the point where
the rats were weighing me down
and decided it was time for a break. :)

Is the only way to get into
the Desert other than through the Cannon, or is there some warp point there I haven't discovered? You can't get into the main desert through the Mirror Room, AFAIK.

Also, HOLY CRAP @ some of these "hidden holes." I've wanted hidden holes like these since AlttP.

I finally finished the game (GC version) and well, most of the it is really awesome. The only thing I didn't like is that the last two dungeons were too short, and the end was kinda abrupt. Wasted potential right there.

There is something that looks like a statue on the right part of the map. If you look anywhere in the desert, you should see it. I won't say what it is, but, thats where the warp is.

Thanks, I'll go check it out. Seemed odd that there wouldn't be a "Desert warp"

How ****ing great is the 4th dungeon boss? The ones up to it were cool, but haha that one was amazing!
Yeah, I just replayed that dungeon myself. Absolutely amazing design all around, and the boss is just phenomenal. The re-worked Volvagia theme adds alot to it as well imo.

Dungeon 7 is indeed spectacular. The only reason I'm a little hesitant to declare it definitively the best Zelda dungeon is that the music there doesn't hold up to my other favorites (Forest Temple, Spirit Temple, Stone Tower Temple). The other aspects probably make up for that, though.

Damn I kept playing and now I almost beat it. Only the final dungeon left, but that's not gonna be for a while since I want to get everything (except maybe Poe Souls, too much hassle). I got stuck for a while in dungeon 7, and when I found out what to do, the design of the thing in general blew me away.
After you make this long trip to get the fan above the main room to stop spinning, I didn't know what to do. Then I saw this clawshot switch-like thing, and wondered how I would get up there. Then I noticed the metal grid up above, clawshot up, descend, grip on the switch. Awesome.

And then the
Zant battle. That guy went from being a badass looking threat, to an insane, erratic, room-spinning weakling that really needed to get his comeuppance.

I can't wait to replay this game when my component cables finally arrive.

Okay, I beat the game today. Will post impressions in a few. A bit of mixed feelings, actually.

ive been away from Zelda for a few days. i've finished both the Wii and GameCube versions, and am half way through the Wii version again. the release of the Opera browser has destracted me from Zelda for awhile. both applications have SO much to them. much to explore. two different enormous worlds. one a videogame world, one the world wide web.
both are huge. well the www is bigger but there is so much to do in Zelda still. my Wii is complete with what i wanted for it.

I'm absolutely loving this game. I just beat the third dungeon and I feel like I'm going through it too fast—I don't want this game to end. So now I'm just wandering the fields, and I've already found a couple of suprisingly extensive mini-dungeons.

I must say, I went into this game with very low expectations with regards to the graphics and while some textures and animations might not be the greatest, the artwork is incredible. It just looks beautiful on my 480i tv, almost like I'm looking at an animated oil painting.
Hyrule Lake, the forest area where you get the master sword, the first section of the second dungeon
were all places where I just went into first person mode and looked around.

I'm actually really enjoying the wii controls now too. I haven't played a Zelda game since Ocarina of Time though, so I don't really have much to compare to. I will say that at first sword swiping with waggling was horrible but I'm actually enjoying it now. Aiming is very accurate.

Difficulty is spot on for me. I've died about 5-6 times, been stumped a few times on puzzles though I haven't resorted to looking on the net for hints yet. Enemies could be a bit more difficult, requiring more strategic fighting.

Oh.. one last thing, for those having difficulty with teh sword bash, try holding the nunchuck more directly forward rather than inward. If you do this, then push forward, it works basically everytime.

Damn, just finished the 7th dungeon. Best Zelda dungeon I have ever played, hands-down. There was just something incredibly fun and awe-inspiring in getting around that place.
It was also long as hell (or seemed that way). Extremely clever situations and puzzles tto boot. Finally, the boss battle was also absolutely awesome, loved the sense of scale. It just destroyed the dungeon 4 boss as my favorite battle. Damn.

For those that have finished the game, is it now your favorite 3D Zelda?
I haven't finished GameCube Princess, but as of the 5th dungeon, it is not...

...and if it isn't, which Zelda is?
Lemme put it this way...

(Majora's Mask + The Wind Waker) > (Ocarina of Time + Twilight Princess)

Majora's Mask.

Majora's Mask? The only things that game was good for were sidequests and one dungeon. That's about it.

Or TWW...

I'm not really sure which I like more...

TWW gets more hate than it deserves. TP had better pretty much everything though (except for the ending... which is hard to do since TWW's is brilliant).

As I keep thinking about it...this is a really interesting question to answer...

(MM + TWW) > (OoT + TP)
(MM + OoT) < (TWW + TP)
(MM + TP) > (TWW + OoT)

WTF I got raped!

I went to the Wolf to learn a new trick, the Shield trick. Bad thing is, I DONT HAVE A SHIELD ANYMORE (burned at death mountain)...

And now I'm stucked there, because you cant exit that place and he can't kill me...

;(

I'm at the 8th dungeon right now.
So far Majoras Mask ist still my favourite Zelda (I strongly disagree with Anihawk in this case). TP and OoT are close 2nd, though.[/U]

The problem with Majora's Mask is that while it has great characters, it just isn't a terribly fun main game. Twilight Princess is far more well-rounded. I'm really enjoying going back and visiting the characters at different stages in the game now. Especially the kids and the villagers from Ordon. There's a lot of real good stuff there.

I don't care that MM has only four dungeons. I do care that of the four dungeons, the best one (and it IS up there with my favorites) still is annoying to go through. The others are rather forgettable.

Eh, I don't know. I think this is where I disagree with you on the Zelda series. Majora's was, IMO, the biggest step forward in terms of presentation and style for the Zelda series that its ever had. The mask system was innovative and and really fun, and I think the dungeons were some of the best in the series..the last three better than Ocarina's (Woodfall kinda sucked).

It's why it remains my favorite 64 Zelda and my second favorite in the series. Maybe not huge leaps in terms of dungeon design, but large steps forward for production style and plot. If we didn't have MM, I don't think the story in TP would be as fleshed out or as good.

I wouldn't go as far to say "if we didn't have MM..."

Majora's Mask is the worst-selling 3D Zelda, and it was Aonuma's first as a director (where it was only him). It was really his style and his vision, and it would've been that way no matter what point he started in the series (which actually was Ocarina, wasn't it? That was also the first big, text-heavy, cutscene-heavy Zelda too).

I liked the Great Bay Temple a lot. Snowhead and Woodfall were decent too.

Great Bay Temple would've been somewhat entertaining if it wasn't a ****ing water level. MM's swimming was greatly improved over OoT, but it was still pretty bad. Also, that stupid ****ing fish is one of the worst Zelda bosses ever.

Actually, the only good boss in that game was Goht.

Agreed with the bosses. I did like the little African playa at Woodfall though.

I liked Great Bay a lot though. Awesome puzzles and design.
