Official Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thread

For those that have finished the game, is it now your favorite Zelda?
Yes or No, and if it isn't which Zelda is?

Its pretty much goes like this, if WW and MM could afford to be as solid as OOT and TP while maintaining its original flavor I'd easily place them at the top of the 3d Zelda list. I like originality, I like fresh, I like revolutionary but all these things are just different ways of getting to the same place, having your mind blown away. TP, despite staying very close to its roots, has managed to redefine what I expect from the best.

TP is to OOT and LTTP is to LoZ.

I need to go back and play some LTTP but at the moment they both sit atop of the top rung of the Zelda ladder.

Finished the 4th dungeon last night... that boss fight was awesome (reminded me of Goht from Majora's Mask)... and the music... old boss battle music FTW!
The only thing that has disappointed me so far is the music... IMO, is not as good as OoT and MM, even TWW had more memorable tunes (at least as of now)...

As I was playing TP last night, I stopped and asked myself this question:

"If TP was taken EXACTLY as it is and had been done with a cel-shaded look as WW was, would people hate it more, love it less, or enjoy it exactly the same?"

Am I the only one here who really enjoys running around as the wolf? Combat on Epona is kind of clunky, and the wolf itself is just so sleek.

I'd probably like it more with a little bit of cell-shading. While the graphics are still good in Twilight Princess, cell-shading would make it amazing.us

Kind of off topic, but now that I've finished TP, and havent played the other Zelda's, should I hold off for OOT, and MM to be released on the virtual console, or buy the collectors disc used from gamestop?

I've heard MM on the disc has some bugs in it, and the controls for both games get a little clunky at times, is this true?

I found oot perfectly playable on the collectors disc.... It was my first time playing the game. I didn't have it on n64 (since i didn't have an n64 for very long)

The camera works in the same way as TP on the wii (or ninja gaiden)... you just click a button and it goes behind you. I think the people who had problems with it are people who've played it on n64. apparently if you get used to the yellow buttons, the yellow stick on the GC feels wrong.

For me, it was perfectly fine.

LttP is still tops for me. This is the best 3D Zelda, though.

The first experience is so awesome, but looking back it loses some of its shine.

I've got the EXACT same feeling. TP tops OOT in SO MANY LEVELS... but aLTTP a my first love

I just killed
Zant
(took a while to find out I had to use the
Boomeran
, but it was very very clever and funny boss to kill.

I liked more
Twilight palace
than the 7th dungeon.

Now i'm inside
Hyrule castle
:)

About the collectors disc versions of OoT and MM:

OoT is emulated almost perfectly...
MM on the other hand:
1) the sound is not very clear (there's "noise")...
2) the framerate is not so good...
3) sometimes it freezes and you have to reset the game (fortunately, happened to me only once) and with the save system this game uses (very different from OoT, TWW and TP), that can be a BIG problem...

Just finished it last night, gonna go through and try and get the rest of the heart container pieces and whatnot that I missed (Only found like two hidden hole things, so there's a lot more I can do)

When OoT came out, and everyone was calling it the greatest video game ever made, I didn't agree. I liked it well enough, but there were things that kept it from being truly great for me (Lack of dungeons, ****ing GOD AWFUL CHARACTER DESIGN for almost every humanoid character, nearly useless monetary system, labor intensive sidequests like hunting down all the skulltulas and Poes for minimal reward), and certainly not as good as Link to the Past.

I think LttP may still be my favorite, but I'll be damned if TP doesn't come damned close

Can I just say that I totally dig that the fortune teller in Castle Town is turning out to be extraordinarily usefull for finding Heart Pieces I've missed?

Wow, nice to know noone can come into this thread anymore to post impressions etc without having the end of the game, etc and other things spoiled for them. Awesome job whoever mod decided to do that, fine work there. Good thing the only thing that you moderate is a videogame forum. How idiotic and childish.

Just got through the entire cave of ordeals- damn, I was shaking and my hands were so sweaty on the final few floors. Its a very decent challenge- even with full bottles of fairies- everyone should try to make it till the end. The combination of enemies they throw at you in the final few floors is pretty damn insane, and makes for extremely intense battles where you actually have to plan out what you're going to do, then watch each step while applying it- if not, you're screwed. Certainly nothing like that in the game so far.

Id name some combinations that were extremely challenging, but I guess I cant as they should be spoiler tagged I guess.

I know that I would like it less. The "realistic" look is fitting in Twilight Princess, imo.

so that is what shes for?

Yeah, you pay her ten rupees, and she shows you a person or a place where a heart piece is. Some of them are a little more explicit than others (Sometimes what item you have to use is blindingly obvious, sometimes you really have to look around to find something), but I was able to find it everytime, and there were several places that I wouldn't have thought to go looking.

I just beat it too. I was cruising along until the last set of floors, and then I just got my ass handed to me by some of those last few fights. Oddly enough, I didn't find the last fight quite as hard as one a few floors previously (Then again, I used a certain item I was saving for the end, so that probably had a hell of a lot to do with it.)

My God, I just discovered a place for the first time that gives you a ****ing amazing view of Hyrule- where one of the owl statues life (north of the map). Its is one of the most beautiful things Ive ever seen, with the Sunset behind the massive Hylia bridge, dozens of birds circling overhead, and all areas of the game visible in the background. I might post a shot soon.

In fact, Im at the 8th dungeon, and I dont think Ive even seen all of Hyrule field.

Dammit! One of my brothers saved his game over my file... argh! >:(
I have to start again and I didn't like the first hour or so of the game... >__< ...

Please tell me how to find this spot. I've been keeping an eye out for this for a while, and I'm pretty sure I haven't found it. Is it the owl statue on the north part of Eldin Bridge? What do you do exactly to get up high?

EDIT: OK, I know where this is. I think it's cool, but I was thinking before that this was some spot way up north where you could literally see the entire overworld.

No, its not that one. Its the one North of that. I think its close to the hidden village. The only crappy thing is there is a railing that obstructs your view.

Check on that for me if you get a chance, I don't think there is an owl statue any further north than the one on the north part of Eldin bridge. Or snap a pic of it, either way. I really would like to see it if it's something different.

Quick informal poll:

The huge armored enemies: Do you consider them to be Darknuts, Ironknuckles, or something else entirely?

I've looked at a few FAQs and sometimes they're called Darknuts, other people call them Ironknuckles...

Sorry, my mistake. Its just north of Lake Hylia on the narrow path to the castle.
Just realized sister took digital camera, heres a really shitty snap off my cell.

I just like how you can see all the provinces in the distance.

The "Official Player's Guide from the pros at Nintendo Power" calls them Darknuts.

Make them celshaded and remove the second form and they'd be identical to the Darknuts out of Wind Waker. Thus I've always thought of them as such.

Yeah, I consider them Darknuts too, but I can see the similarities to Ironknuckle in OoT (Though honestly now that I think about it, I don't know if it was actually ever referred to as such, or if that's just what a lot of people were calling it.)

I was just playing through the original LoZ on my VC tonight, and was freshly reminded of how much I freakin' hate Darknuts...

There are NINE dungeons (including the last, of course)?? :D

Entering the seventh now. I can't see where the eighth will come from, but I ain't complaining.

Re: sixth --
The mini-boss was awesome. Iron knuckle keeps getting better.

I tried to search and look through this thread, but come on, 117 pages. =P
Is Zelda TP GC version playable on Wii with a GC controller? Ie backwards compatible.

Would be good to know since both are under the tree for my bro's :D

Merry christmas!

One thing I really love about this game is the dungeon length.
It's perfect, it's not too short, but not too long either.
Some are pretty much the length of a movie, which is perfect. (For me anyways.)

Just got the game this Friday. I'm a couple hours in and I'm so used to camera control that I cant imagine how this game could be played without the camera stick - with this type of game you need to be able to see what's around you. I'm loving it so far, but what I've seen I cant imagine this game being 70 hours long.

Some people were saying this comes second to RE4 in terms of visuals. The graphics and animation here aren't even as good as Wind Waker (which looks exactly like a real cartoon). The Metroid Prime games are also ahead of this. The music is good, remember this is a game not a movie, midi makes the soundtrack interactive.

...

Finished it.

Was disappointed with the end before the credits started, but in the end, it was alright.

I didn't see Midna's change coming at all.
The last two dungeons were really crappy though, far too short and not really inspired. The last one was just walking forward until the barrier came around and fight.

And I hate it when games just stop with 'the end', and don't give you an option to save or anything.

Well I found that last bottle last night, I should have found that earlier. Durrr.

Still have five poe's souls left, some of them have been fairly cleverly hidden.

Hopefully I'll have time to finish the game this afternoon.
