yeah what the hell, bozo?

sorry guys :(

that's not just me trying to be a dick. i love a good stupid comedy, as long as it's smart (if that makes sense). i always cite ZOOLANDER and BILLY MADISON as a couple of my favorite comedies. i had big expectations for ANCHORMAN, and was let down, really only laughing seriously at the street fight; TROPIC THUNDER i had tempered my expectations by the time i went into the theater due to negative reactions from friends, but even then, it was hard for me to sit through the whole thing.

maybe this is different though!

Pacing is kinda weird, but there's several really funny parts. Definitely worth a rental.

Wish Jericho was in it a little more as his bit of dialogue with MacGruber is quite entertaining and has a dynamic that the rest of the movie needed.

And yeah, doesn't surprise me that it is a bomba... my theater was pretty empty (wasn't even planning on seeing it)

Can't believe the reviews. Had a huge long trailer in front of iron man 2 and although you could tell it was trying to be a spoof, there were no laughs at all.

Saw the movie last night. Hysterical. May go see it again. Though I can see how the humor may not be for everyone.

Disappointed at the box office marks...

I wouldn't wish this movie on my worst enemies.

of course, if this kind of comedy works for you, enjoy yourself. give me Hangover/She's Out of My League/Tropic Thunder over this every day of the week.

maybe it's a cultural thing. idk. I can't imagine too many brothas and sistahs walking out of this movie pleased that the spent $20 to see it. maybe I'm wrong. I chuckled a few times commanders facial expressions, mostly. but the rest...bah. don't even want to think about it again.

if you like it, enjoy yourself. i'll just say this: if you don't enjoy the first 40 minutes or so, walk the hell out and either your money back or go into some other movie.

5. MacGruber (Rogue/Universal) NEW []
Friday $1.6M, Estimated Weekend $4.5M

Ouch.

Opened in over 2500 theaters, too.

That was kinda hilarious, with the 100% RT hype from months ago and whatnot. :P

You posted earlier about how you walked out half way through, but this post implies that you disliked the ending more-so than the beginning.. wut. The ending could redeem the whole thing and you wouldn't even know.

I walked out after 1.25-1.5 hours. I had seen more than enough.

and no, nothing would have redeemed it. the issue was the type of comedy they used and their formula/approach to it.

needless to say, those are the kinds of things that wouldn't have changed over the last 30 minutes.

different forms of comedy appeal to different people. if you enjoyed this, good for you. you can bet your ass that movie won't get another minute of my lifetime. my thoughts on MacGruder end with this post.

enjoy yourselves if you like it, gentlemen. you don't need everyone to like the film for you to have liked it anyway.

Don't take it personally man, I haven't even seen it, but I'm the type that never walks out on movies.

Really? Even people who despise Will Ferrell loved Anchorman

i can't wait for this to come out on dvd so that i can watch it five million more times.

the game has changed, but the players are the same.

I can't believe they made a movie about this terribly unfunny sketch. They might as well have made Night at the Roxbury 2.

Day 0. Loved Night at the Roxbury.

Might see MacGruber sometime.

YES. This movie was so FUCKING HILARIOUS. I was pretty much in tears.

still laughing just thinking about this shit, god damn :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Funniest movie in years.

Uh oh. Costanza likes it. Now I'm conflicted. I'm trying to get my wife to see it with me and if it is really that bad, then I know I will be forced to go see the new Twilight film.

people need to stop using Constanza as some kind of standard for taste.

actually, people need to stop using anyone as some kind of standard for taste.

Wow, WTF happened? I feel kinda bad, everyone who worked on this is really talented and it does look funny. Fuck it, I'm still going.
I saw it yesterday and the theater was pretty empty. I enjoyed it. It was a stupid but funny movie and I enjoyed it for what it was... Nothng serious. Not for everybody though.

The ads were terribly unfunny, and anyone who I told that it was based off a SNL skit was like "ohhhhh... ewwww"
The SNL skits are shit, and the ads were definitely 100% unfunny like you said. Not surprised this is bombing...

There were less than 10 people in my theater on a Saturday night. What the fuck :(

There were 6 in mine but it was a matinée. I only heard one group of two laugh besides me and my friend.

"That was a Blaupunkt!!"

KFBR392

I'm curious if there's anyone who will see the movie and NOT have that memorized by the end. So fucking awesome. :lol

My theater, 10:30 showing; about three couples, a group of 4 people, and a group of 7 dudes that looked like co workers.

The movie was definitely solid and hilarious. There were a handful of very memorable scenes. If you watch SNL in any capacity it is definitely worth seeing at least once.

I couldn't get over
MacGruber carrying the radio in every scene, hahahahaha.

MACGRUBER this movie sucks ass yeah it really sucks ass MACGRUBER don't waste your money just go get kicked in the balls MACGRUBER!!!

actually, haven't seen it. had no desire and 55% doesn't yell "go spend money on it". :/

I saw it and liked it. It really is the funniest SNL movie since Wayne's World. (Yeah that should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's true.)

The movie's humor is of the vulgar/gross-out variety, and MacGruber is essentially played as a stupid asshole that doesn't know he's a stupid asshole.

The first half of the movie is really uneven and almost every scene with Powers Booth seems to drag the movie down. However IMO the movie does start to pick up it's stride at the mid-way point during the scene where MacGruber describes the origin of his relationship with Val Kilmer's Cunth character and ends up finishing strong.

Worth the price of a matinee if you've got nothing better to do and want to have a few stupid laughs. Just be warned after watching, the sound MacGruber makes while having sex will be permanently seared into your brain.

Best part of the movie for me was Cunth saying
"no, because I'm not a fucking retard who blows up his own guys."

I won't say it's actually a good movie but it had its moments.

Critic opinions don't mean shit for this kind of movie. GO SEE IT.

McGruber is a great movie filed with all the little common mechanics you get from a Lonely Island sketch/film with the little internet references, a quirky soundtrack, little red convertibles, distorted movie cliches, and jorma's obsession with karaoke and saxophones. I have a feeling it will be one of those movies you can pick apart and find new jokes each time you watch it. It's not like the McGruber skits in anyway. It's not even really like other SNL films. It's one big digital short but with a whole bunch of Will Forte ass.

it kinda does for a site like rottentomatoes and a comedy film (especially an all out spoof).

Some of the good comedies have similar scores like the naked guns that hover around 55%, Zoolander at 62%, Anchorman at 66%, Death To Smoochy at 42%.
