- Refs didn't make the Lakers miss ELEVEN fts
- Refs didn't make Vlad and Farmar play like trash
- Refs didn't block Luke's WIDE OPEN layup
- Refs didn't make Phil go for the tie instead of the win since Kobe was banged up

Enough about the refs. I don't think I can watch gm 5 though. Too nervous..

Lakers win game 5 confirmed.

Are you dense? Turiaf's foul was a flagrant I, not II, because he used unnecessary body force. Knocking someone down and hurting them to the point where they need stitches is not the same thing as a rubbish bench player getting owned like he normally does. Walton got owned and when he landed he tried to flop to make it look he was fouled. :lol

In today's pussified league, it was definitely a flagrant but it wasn't ejection worthy. I miss the days when a ref would just look at you and tell you to get the fuck up and take your two shots at the charity stripe.

Players are just worth too much money now on so many levels... but I don't miss the Oak house days.. remember when he said he wanted to come back at the begin of the year?I wonder how that would have went down...

Assault charges and jail time?

I bet LBJ would have shat himself the first time he came down the lane after scoring a few easy buckets

The thing about today's pussy rules is that they were made to make basketball more entertaining by giving the offense an advantage over the defense but all it does is slow down the game and kill any flow by having parades to the charity stripe. I'd love basketball so much more if there weren't so many god damn whistles.

it is the flops that suck.. on both sides of the ball. Refs need to watch tapes so they know who is doing it and how not to be fooled..

Yay, GAF is back!

Anyways, NBA announced the All-NBA Defensive teams today.

2007-08 NBA ALL-DEFENSIVE FIRST TEAM
Position Player, Team 1st 2nd Points
Forward Kevin Garnett, Boston 24 4 52
Guard Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers 24 4 52
Center Marcus Camby, Denver 14 9 37
Guard/Forward Bruce Bowen, San Antonio 13 10 36
Forward Tim Duncan, San Antonio 12 9 33

2007-08 NBA ALL-DEFENSIVE SECOND TEAM
Position Player, Team 1st 2nd Points
Forward Shane Battier, Houston 9 11 29
Guard Chris Paul, New Orleans 10 6 26
Center Dwight Howard, Orlando 8 9 25
Forward Tayshaun Prince, Detroit 3 14 20
Guard Raja Bell, Phoenix 4 10 18

I don't think Kobe, Prince, Paul and Bell belongs there. But hey...these are voted by the 30 coaches.

Battier should be a first teamer. That dude pretty much destroyed our offense in the round 1 series. He didn't fill up the stat sheet defensively, but the way he disrupts the cutters, the way he bumps guys off their lanes, and the way he locks down guys for long periods is beyond impressive.

Has Kobe even played defense since 2004?

The NBA probably has the worst Award voters of any sport. The fact that Shane Battier is only 2nd team is a DAMN shame.

Seriously, he was the runaway #3 in the DPotY voting. And Kobe got NO 1st place votes in the DPotY voting (deservingly so: He's NOT that great of a defender)

Yet Kobe ties KG for the most points for the 1st team? What the hell NBA

So exactly why the hell is Mike D'antoni or whatever the hell his name is the Knicks coach again?

Because anyone is better than Isiah... right?

What 2 guard plays better defense?

Kobe CAN play defense, but he hasn't actually done that the last 3+ seasons since he's been the Lakers only offensive threat. It's been pretty damn obvious he's rested on defense.

You shouldnt get voted to the 1st team All-Defense because "If he wanted to, he could play defense! I swear!"

Heh, yeah. I mean I don't think Kobe deserves to be on the first team because he's only a good defender when he tries (which is not very often). But then again, there really isn't another 2 guard that deserves to take his place. =\

I thought the whole point of saying you'll stress defensive is to then get a defensive-oriented coach. I listened to a very informative interview with Jack McCallum from Sports Illustrated on WFAN.com where he said some interesting things about the whole situation.

Plus, I thought the whole point was to hire a young coach for 3 years to see if he can mold the team, then hire a guy in 2010 or 2011.

EDIT: Look for Jack McCallum on left

D'antoni did it for the money in all likelihood. Sit around for 2-3 years as the 3rd highest paid coach in the league while waiting for the Knicks to free up some salary for the 2010 Lebroom sweepstakes.

They've got a long road ahead, but honestly, they could've done a lot worse than hiring Donnie Walsh and Mike D'antoni :lol

7 second or less probably won't be contending for any titles soon, but they'll at least be fairly exciting to watch, and next years losses will probably be fairly epic in nature (Knicks will probably score 110 on some nights and still lose by 25-30).

Well scoring won't be an issue, this team can score right now. And ironically enough Isiah's drafts are full of players to can play a quick uptempo style (Nate Robinson, Renaldo Balkman, David Lee, Wilson Chandler). It's also good that the Knicks will have two players who played for him and know the style in Marbury and Richardson. The hardest thing the Knicks will have is jettisioning the contracts of Curry, Jeffries, James, and unless he develops a passion for D Randolph WITHOUT adding too much/picking up too much garbage in return.

I do like in the interview where the guy says if D'antoni sets a goal for the Knicks (41 wins, playoffs, whatever) and you say it's not possible D'antoni's the type of guy who'll say "You're full of crap" and work towards it anyway. :lol

Kobe plays awesome defense a lot of the time, especially for a guard. Remember, if it was just the five best defenders, it would be almost all forwards. Kobe gets in because guard defense isn't that strong these past few years.

Hell, remember the Houston game where Kobe made T-Mac almost completely irrelevant?

I get frustrated sometimes watching laker games because i'll be watching kobe playing defense, and sometimes he doesn't pay attention to his man, who right away gets the ball and makes a wide open 3 pointer. IMO a first team defensive player doesn't do that as many times as I see him do it.
