Calvin Johnson just might be the happiest player ever to not be selected #1 overall. He's more stoked right now than Russell is.

Let the draft begin....

Godell did the brotha handshake with Russell... I am liking this new Commish... never saw tagliabue do that...

in all seriousness, Randy Moss will destroy this man's ego if he doesnt get himt he ball..

It's going to be tough to get Moss the ball unless he plans on switching to defensive back for the Patriots.

accept my apology now... wtf are u talking about... I havent been keeping up with Randy news.. is he on the pats now?

Actually you know what, I think Detroit could screw up more by drafting someone like Gaines Adams or Brady Quinn:lol

Raiders are in trade talks with Packers and Patriots for shipping Moss to one of them.

Rumors are really heating up that he'll be traded to the Pats.

LOL @ detroit crowd Cheering like crazy only to see him get traded

2nd handshake for the commish 2nd grip to hug ... that man is the the truth

I wish I could laugh at the Lions taking Johnson, but I agree with the pick. They ****ed up in the past. Rogers was a bust, Mike Williams was an all around ****ing horrible pick. Roy Williams keeps getting hurt. Johnson is the best player and they need help at the position. If they couldn't get a trade done, there was no reason for them to sacrifice value. Wideout isn't their top need, but it's a need.

Roy and Calvin, the next Holt and Bruce??? Lions need help at other positions, but boy would they make a great combo.

Goodbye Calvin. If you don't get traded, you are going to disappear into that #1 WR black hole in Detroit. Enjoy the next decade of mediocrity, buddy, b/c if you're anywhere near as good as you showed in college, then they're never gonna let you go. Ouch. PEACE.

:lol :lol at Deion interviewing JaMarcus's mom and going through a long spiel about how things feel and all she answers is "I just wanna thank God"

I actually think they're trying to trade now. They really want Gaines Adams or Patrick Willis.

I'm sure they are still trying to trade, likely wanting to see if a guy they want is there at 8. But if not, they'll end up keeping Johnson, and they shouldn't try to force a trade to get rid of him.

From AOLSportsblog:

Calvin Johnson is the guy every team wanted. There were reports that all 32 teams thought Johnson was the best pure prospect in this year's draft. There were reports that teams including (but not limited to) the Falcons, the Bucs, the Redskins, the Vikings and the Broncos were looking to trade up for Johnson, even though in general this is a year when teams would rather trade down.

Still, I have to say this: (And, I promise, I won't be comparing every pick to a basketball player.) When the Clippers selected Michael Olowokandi with the first pick in the 1998 NBA draft, I remember telling a friend that I didn't know enough about Olowokandi to say what kind of player he'd be, but I knew that if the Clippers were taking him, he had to be a bust.

Well, I do know quite a bit about Calvin Johnson, having watched him several times at Georgia Tech. And I think he's great. But I can't shake the feeling that if Matt Millen is taking him, he has to be a bust. Millen has made so many mistakes, so often, that it's hard to believe he could have done the smart thing here.

:lol :lol So true

lions beat writer saying that if millen/marinelli don't come down to address the media in 10 minutes then they're trading CJ, or trying to. said that people were throwing shit at the lions for a trade and that's why Millen pulled the trigger on the pick while there was still time on the clock.

i'm off to work. good luck everyone.

Wow, I didn't think it was possible for Brady Quinn to look any whiter, but now after seeing his girlfriend......

There ya go, Thomas! Good pick by the Browns, kid's just a good tackle and a good person it seems.

i think thats a good pick for detroit. now they should try to trade mike williams for a later round draft pick and try to pick up a QB from a later round or hey how about getting culpepper when he gets released? the QB situation is not as dire IMO. they have kitna who is servicable and if they get a QB like culpepper or in a later rd they could be good.
