Nationally televised games? Bye week? Road trips?

The sequence of games has an effect on how the team performs, not just the strength of schedule.

I was excited for the schedule to come out because I wanted to know what games are in the end of december when I'm on winter break. Now that I know the Cowboys finish off the season on the road, I won't be able to attend a Cowboys game this year.

Plus we get to play you guys on primetime, at home, AGAIN.

we'll probably lose again anyway

:lol That's just bad luck. The one year when the NFC North and AFC South win, you guys have to play both.
I doubt it has anything to do with luck. The Raiders have been playing the conference champs year in and year out, for some time now. I expected the same for this year, so I'm not surprised.

Oct 7 Cleveland 1:00pm
Oct 14 @Dallas 4:15pm
Oct 21 @Miami 1:00pm
Oct 28 Washington 4:15pm
Nov 4 @Indianapolis 4:15pm
Week 10 BYE
Nov 18 @Buffalo 1:00pm
Nov 25 Philadelphia 8:15pm
Dec 3 @Baltimore 8:30pm
Dec 9 Pittsburgh 1:00pm
Dec 16 N.Y. Jets 1:00pm
Dec 23 Miami 1:00pm
Dec 29 @N.Y. Giants 8:15pm

w00t @ the San Diego game being so early, I may actually manage to get tickets for it and not have to sell them later on. Having what will likely be a meaningless week 17 game against an NFC team with second stringers playing broadcast in primetime is strange, but whatever.

remember the last game in 2003? when the rams had like 120 yards of total offense, but still managed to score 33 points and win.

i think we sacked boller and chris redman like 8 times
Ravens had 7 TOs, what a ugly game for both team.

So you're saying the NFL looks at what divisions the Raiders play the following year and then make sure a team from each of those divisions win their conferences the current year?

Hmm...In 2008, the Raiders play the NFC South and AFC East. I guess that means this year's super bowl will be Pats vs Saints.

Not quite :P It's more like some small adjustments being made just prior to releasing the official schedules. We're not the most hated team for nothing. :P

Don't forget, it's classic year 2 of the TO experience!

And Jags/Colts in Jax on Monday Night, that'll be a beatdown.
I'm already betting on 500 combined yards for MJD and ... uh, anyone else they put on the field.

Shows away games.

Yeah, you gotta plan your entire day for football. I do all that tailgating shit too, so you gotta see what day the game your going to falls on.

compared to last yr we have a better schedule in that we dont have tons of road games in a row against all nfc east divisional foes.

we should start of 4-0 heading into the bye week.

who we?

EAGLES.

you do know the schedules are set in stone years ahead of time. the only variance in the schedule depends on what place you finish in your division. the nfl doesnt handpick any games.

Drew Bledsoe announced his retirement from football.

The first pick in the '93 draft, Bledsoe finishes his 14-year career with 44,611 passing yards and a 251-206 TD-INT ratio. He ranks 13th in career passing scores and fifth in completions despite a sub-par 57.2 completion rate. Bledsoe will likely be best remembered for the injury that allowed Tom Brady to take over as the Patriots' QB in 2001, paving the way for Brady to lead the Pats to three Super Bowl Championships.

Thats a shitty way to be remembered :lol :lol :lol

Paul Spicer from the Jags was on the local radio show today and I was actually proud of him. The hosts asked him if he was king of the NFL would Adam Jones be in the NFL still, and he said "Nope, I wouldn't put up with any of that crap". Being a current player, it's good to hear someone stand up and take a position like that.

That is true... but should be expanded.

The thrills of schedule release day comes from where your team is playing, when their bye is and in what order your opponents will fall. This is determined after the season when the schedule genius put their heads together.

Everything else is so perfect it makes me cry.

6 division games
4 games against a division from the opposite conference
4 games against a division in your conference
2 games against the teams in your conference who finished in the same position in their division as you did.

Simple and elegant, though I'm sure most people here knew that.

the same place finisher games are stupid. the way they have it now, is that the same place finisher games don't alternate road/home until 3 years later

for the cowboys...it's"

2005
same place finisher nfc south road

2007
same place finisher nfc south road

Not until 2008, do the Cowboys get to play the same place finisher nfc south home. That's why the Cowboys have to play Carolina on the road 3 years in a row. I wouldn't mind playing them just 2 years in a row on the road, but 3 years is a bit too much.

And whether you've been shafted with a three-game road streak again.

Bolded for extreme truth, justice and The American Way. College football needs to change to this format.

Champions play better on the road.

Stop your whining and pick a quarterback already.

Well, I believe we're the only team to have won three of three regular season road games in quite a while - in fact we're six of six the last two times it's happened.

And we've picked a quarterback, thanks. Was announced quite a while back, so I'm surprised you'd have missed it. When are you guys going to get around to buying your QB a crash helmet?

Well if the Jags do so well on the road then stop complaining about it. :D

I thoguht there was still indecision in Jacksonville on who to go with for the future? So there is no qb controversy brewing?

Philly won 3/3 last year against 3 straight divisional opponents on the road.

Byron Leftwich is still “The Man.”

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio made that announcement on Thursday, speaking from Indianapolis, where Del Rio is attending the NFL scouting combine.

“Shack (personnel director James Harris) and his staff and me and my staff, including the new coaches, have completed our evaluation processes and, in our minds, there’s a confirmation and consensus that Byron Leftwich is our starting quarterback going forward,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio said he has communicated that decision to Leftwich.

“I have. We’ve spoken. I talked to him the week after the Super Bowl. We spent three hours talking,” Del Rio said. “When you lose your starting quarterback, it puts your head coach into an awkward situation. There were some awkward situations we potentially could’ve handled better. It’s unrealistic for anybody to lose their quarterback and not be confronted with those situations. We’ve resolved to go forward.”

Del Rio confirmed that Leftwich will be the team’s starting quarterback going into training camp and that David Garrard and Quinn Gray would be retained. He also said the team would not attempt to sign a quarterback in free agency.

“What I would offer is that there is always competition but we’re not creating an open competition,” Del Rio said.

All done, provided he doesn't get injured. He's had the clean-up surgery on the ankle injury that sidelined him the last two years, so hopefully it's all good - any contract extension pretty much depends on 16 games out of him IMO.

Not that there was much chance of a controversy even without that being made explicit. As we saw last season, David Garrard's a more dependable QB than Tommy Maddox if you've got a game to throw, and Quinn Gray just isn't ready.

And I retract my complaints about the three-game road stretch, having seen that they're against New Orleans, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. I guess we'd really have something to complain about had it been Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Denver...

CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was scheduled to leave town Tuesday, with the knowledge he probably won't return as a member of the team -- though he hasn't heard that from them.

According to his publicist, Jenkins was planning to head to his new offseason home in Maryland to huddle with his agent since his football future's up in the air. The Panthers have been exploring trade options for the three-time Pro Bowler, but have not updated him on any progress that may or may not be made on that front.

"The last time I talked to Kris, he said he still hasn't heard from the team," publicist Livis Freeman said Tuesday. "Right now, he just wants to be wanted. This was completely out of the blue to him. ...

"He wants to go somewhere they want him to play, and if that's Carolina, so be it. But if it's someplace else, so be it too."

Freeman, who represents many of the 27-year-old's off-field interests, said that Jenkins has been working out with a personal trainer, and was in "amazing shape."

Jenkins has battled weight problems in past offseasons, and the Panthers have never been thrilled with his lack of attendance at organized team workouts.

His football agent (Tony Paige) hasn't returned phone calls seeking comment this week. Freeman said Jenkins was eager to talk about the situation, but was declining interview requests upon the advice of his agent.

As of now, the Panthers aren't saying anything either, though they are still listening to offers.

St. Louis, Kansas City and Denver appear to be the leading candidates to land Jenkins. According to multiple league sources, the Panthers are looking for draft pick compensation, though they were apparently underwhelmed by the first round of talks. While they're said to be averse to giving him away, they're hoping for more than the third-round (or later) picks which have been discussed so far.

Freeman said Jenkins was still a bit baffled at being shopped, and that to his knowledge, hadn't asked for a renegotiation of his contract. He has three years left on the five-year, $31 million extension he signed in September 2003.

He was planning to unveil some new charity efforts in the area soon, but has shelved those plans until he knows where he's playing next year.

Stop ****in around Linehan, his best days are behind him but lets make the move!!

Best days behind him? He is only 28 years old, coming off of a pro-bowl season. And out of his six NFL seasons he played four full seasons but only played a combined 5 games the other 2 seasons--so I would say he has quite a bit in the tank.

Anyway **** the Rams, MAKE THE MOVE NOLAN! Jenkins could be a dominant NT or DE in our 3-4 defense..Not to mention we could now ignore drafting Carriker or Okoye in the draft, 2 guys I'm not 100% sold on, and focus on Willis & Meachem!

His season last year was good, but I don't think Pro Bowl worthy. He got in most for the most part because of his name and reputation.

Giants' Fred Robbins deserved it and got shafted.

Robbins: 46 tackles (total), 5.5 sacks, 2 INT's (6.5 stuffs)

Jenkins: 41 tackles (total), 3 sacks (3 stuffs)

Snap! Stats :)

Injuries + overrated as a probowler, only by name.

That will all change when hes a ram though/ Him and Wroten will be the best duo in the nfl.

He would be a better strength in san fran. We wouldn't be asking him to go out there and record double digit sacks, rather to just be physical against the run, and eat up as many blockers as possible during passing situations.

In December bitches, to win the division, and come back from 5-6. That was stellar.

I agree, Woodchuck. They should alternate those games against different divisional opponents in the same conference. There's no need for you to end up playing the same guy 2-3 years in a row at the same venue.

i wonder which game Jason Campbell will break Peyton Manning's single season TD record in. The only problem will be if Gibbs sits him out the last couple of games since we will have home field wrapped up by then with a 14-0 record.

I know you are joking, but until I came to GAF and saw the niner fans I didn't think a more optimistic fanbase existed anywhere in the country. Every year they seem to think they are legit Superbowl contenders. When in reality the Redskins will fail to make the playoffs and Jason Campbell is going to be lucky to be a backup in 5 years time.
