Oh yeah, who's making the Super Bowl thread?

Congrats brother, the Giants bandwagon just gained an entire country. Enjoy it!

I rewatched some of the game (before the tears forced me to stop) and good God, where did that Plax come from? Game of a life time to say the least.

Hopefully they take that officiating crew to the Super Bowl, they did a fantastic job.

Anyone remember this tidbit from Coming to America?

Prince Akeem: Sir, did you happen to catch the professional football contest on television last night?
Cleo McDowell: No, I didn't.
Prince Akeem: Oh sir, the Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big "H". It was a most ripping victory.
Cleo McDowell: Son.
Prince Akeem: Yes?
Cleo McDowell: If you want to keep working here, stay off the drugs.
Prince Akeem: Yes.

You know I was pissed about the officials for that one chippy illegal contact call, but overall they did a really good job. Good balance between letting them play and keeping things tight.

As for Plax I think he has progressively gotten better because his ankle is starting to feel better. He played out of his mind the first couple of weeks of the season and then dropped off. He did absolutely nothing in the playoffs but last night's game was the best I have ever seen from a Giants receiver. Here's hoping he abuses the shit out of Ellis Hobbs again.

so he only got blitzed 15 times in 2 games? He'll get blitzed that many times in the 1st half in the SB. Bilicheck has his number.

If he has put up the numbers that Jaworski said, doesn't it follow suit that teams would stop blitzing?

Legendary game to come.

Anyone watching Super Bowl XXII on NFL Network? That Redskins kicker has one weird kick off, I can't believe he got a touchback off that delivery.

Well lets just get one more thing clear...Eli will NEVER be better than Peyton. let me bold that shit

NEVER

He may not ever be better but he may turn out to be better in the clutch. We'll see, he's still young.

So if the Pats win the SB are they officially the greatest team ever and if the Giants beat them would that be the greatest SB upset of all time?

Um... no and no. This Patriots team is certainly in the discussion for best ever, but they aren't going to be crowned best just because of their record. The '72 Dolphins were not crowned best ever because they were undefeated either. A lot of people take those Steeler, Niner, Cowboy teams or the '85 Bears.

Biggest upset will always be Jets over Colts. Always. No one respected the AFL at that point. They were a joke. They were never going to compete with the NFL. It's why Super Bowl III is such an important game. It made the sport whole and the Super Bowl relevant.

Plus, I'd still take Patriots over Rams as a bigger upset.

Spectral Glider said:
The '02 blowout to the Jets was the only real inexcusable one.

Weren't the Colts shut out in the second half and overtime of that Dolphins game? That was a pretty horrible performance too. The Titans loss was expected, though. No shame there.

Ninja the Pats are really starting to look vulnerable down the stretch. Even the evil genius can't save them from 4 quarters of Eli Manning. Even your hero Brady is starting to look a little suspect with those 3 horrible INTs. While the savior ignored the naysayers and avoided an INT all postseason.

After Eli slays the beast I will be ready to admit that Eli is in the same sexy category as Big Ben and that that is one of better qb classes of recent memory.

You talking weight-class? Surely, Ben is in one of the greatest.

I'm shocked that Peter King didn't even mention this play in his column today. Is anyone talking about it? It's simply jaw-dropping. Faulk's diving catch and Pierce's ridiculous stop were the two biggest, most impressive plays from Championship Sunday.

Look at that! It's insane!

I know, that play was absolutely amazing.

Haha, Gallo's article today is pretty good

24:00
Tiki Barber interview
The ex-Giants running back discusses his feelings on his former team making the Super Bowl the season after he retired. (Note: Not suggested for children. Interview contains frequent profanities.)

23:30
Brett Favre interview
Favre talks about his excitement about playing in his third Super Bowl. (Interview was previously scheduled. May be bumped.)

23:00
Manning brothers interview
Eli Manning's two older brothers talk about what it was like to grow up with the superstar quarterback. Features oldest brother Cooper, a stock trader; and middle brother Peyton, a popular commercial actor.

And that's just the first 3

I think it takes a lot of man to say "I think my backup can perform better than I can."

Edit: Is there going to be a superbowl thread? Somebody start it!

Damn, Gallo is awesome.

Chris Hanson
The Patriots' punter talks about his limited role on the team and explains once again that he is not the "Dateline NBC" reporter who works to stop pedophiles.

:lol :lol :lol

While the Chargers were generally complimentary of the Patriots following today’s victory, one notable exception was center Nick Hardwick, who went off on Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour in an expletive-laden tirade caught by colleague Rob Bradford in the Chargers locker room.

“There are 10 (bleeping) good players on that team,” Hardwick said. “But Richard Seymour is a dirty, cheap, little pompous (expletive).”

Hardwick was only getting started.

“He’s cheap and dirty and the head man just let him get away with it the whole time,” Hardwick said. “They’ve got 10 great players on that team and when Jarvis Green comes on the field, they’ve got 11 great players who compete how you’re supposed to play. But Richard Seymour is the biggest (expletive) I’ve ever played.”

Hardwick said Seymour usually plays this way, but that he, “took it it to another level today.”

“Head slapping, foot stomping in the pile, running by and throwing punches in your back,” Hardwick said. “He’s a (expletive). … There were a lot of things he did. There’s a field goal where he was stomping feet. Who stomps feet? And the officials weren’t doing anything about it. He plays like a punk.”

Woah... and then there's also Rodney Harrison.

I am loving that the Giants get to the SB the year after Tiki leaves them and talks shit about Eli (who arguably played better than anyone else in the playoffs).

I hope Eli brings this up when the Giants win.

Edit: That is not surprising Wellington. I warned you!

Gigglepoo said:
It was kind of a "Who would I want out there for my team" type list. I trust Eli long term and he really came on at the end of this year.
Long term, perhaps. But for the longest part of this season, he was the last reason for the Giant's success. He had the 25th best QB rating, behind Griese and Boller, had one of the worst completion percentages, and had the most turnovers amongst QBs. Their rushing attack and defense really got them into the playoffs. Of course Eli deserves credit now. Starting with the Pats, he had three straight games of a 117+ rating, and he played good enough against Green Bay (completion percentage wasn't good and he threw a lot of passes, but he out played Favre), and he has had only one turnover in that stretch. So I have no problem with people disparaging Eli during the regular season because in many ways he deserved it, and there wasn't any real indicator of when he would truly begin fulfilling his promise, if ever. But he deserves all of the credit now, and I truly hope he has turned the corner and continues to play like this for the rest of his career.

I find it more amusing that Hardwick said this after a Tennesse win this year. What a fool.

Their mindset was to try to intimidate us and we see if we'll back down. Everyone seems to think we're soft that we're Southern Cal boys and we're not going to play hard and were soft and we're quitters,'' Hardwick said.

"We're just as dirty if not dirtier than anyone else in the league, so we like that. That's the way Kansas City was, the way Tennessee was. They think they're going to swell up on us and be bigger than us, tougher"

Why is Peter King so goddamned pretentious? The article a few weeks ago in which he looked into "Tom Brady's wide eyes" and exclaiming how Tom giggled was already enough, but how he just name drops is ridiculous. Here's a few examples from his latest article:

A little later, I see Ed Werder on ESPN doing the first report of the day. I've known Ed for a long time,

I visited with Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy

I stood at Osi Umenyiora's locker, and as he answered my questions, his teeth were chattering slightly

"I'm amazed,'' I said to Ahmad Bradshaw

And that's just page one!

I know, it's awful. That whole first sequence about the quaint nature of Green Bay and OMG the fans are just going to tailgate at the game even if they aren't going just made me want to vomit. Although its not surprising that even after the Pats/Giants win, Peter King starts off by jerking off Green Bay as he is known to do.

Rivers played the game with a knee that had to be surgically repaired days earlier, while LT sat on the bench with a minor injury that won't require any surgery. What a worthless sack of shit. I now hope LT pulls a Tiki and the Chargers go to the SB the year after he retires

There's a difference between dropping back in the pocket and being a running back in the NFL.

He was on the run a good portion of the game...

Come on harSon. You're smarter than this. Dropping back and scrambling is not teh same as hitting a hole and having to juke, spin, and challenge large NFL defenders.

I'm not saying it's the same. Just that Philip Rivers, despite being a complete asshole, has more heart then Tomlinson.

Wow @ the Tomlinson hate in here... I know he's a complainer at times, but seriously?

Sounds like people are saying he should have played, even if he was going to be a liability... whoever's decision it ultimately was, it was the best one for the team. It's not like Michael Turner's some loser... his style is perhaps better suited for a game against the Pats.

The one place the Chargers lost out without LT was in the red zone, but if he didn't have full speed/full power, they weren't missing much... speed around the edge and the ability to run up the middle are where he's valuable in scoring position...

hehe. LT didn't do anything wrong. When you really break down the game, Norv should had taken Rivers out earlier too and let Volek play. If the back up is playing better than than the injured starter, you put the back up in.

Anyways, at least MT on loose cannons knows whats up. LT didn't sulk, he was just sitting there. hehe. games over, so whatevs.

That's so not fair. He tried. He got out there, gave it a go, and he didn't feel like he could help his team win. I'm sure if all he had to do is drop back he would have been fine to go. Your statement is false.

I can't imagine anyone in LT's position sitting out unless there was a good reason. He's sitting there on the bench as his team is slowly sputtering. How could that not eat him up inside? Clearly he could have played since he started the game. But if his biggest asset to the game is gone (unlike Rivers), then he's hurting the team. Being a Michigan fan, I had to live with a Chad Henne whose arm was about to fall off for half the season. It was a very hard decision of when the line was crossed and he was hurting the team by being in there. He played against Ohio State, but even during that potentially career defining game, I really didn't want to see him in there. The difference is, the Chargers have an incredibly competent backup who could probably start for most teams in the league, so the decision wasn't all that tough. It hurt with him being out, but he at least knew where to draw the line.

who the fuck are you to criticize a professional athlete about whether or not they were too injured to help their team?
