One of the few things we agree on when it comes to the Falcons. I'm excited as hell about Parcells becoming VP. He might not be around long, but I believe he will set the team up with personnel capability of finally giving this franchise the stability it needs.

The yahoo article said that back when he was Tampa Bay, McKay threatened to leave when the Bucs owner wanted to go after Parcells. Hopefully this means McKay will be gone shortly.

Can't find the article, but I read somewhere last night that "sources" said McKay was definitely out as GM even if Parcells wasn't hired. It said Blank wanted him to accept a lesser position (I think like President of Football Operations or something like that).

So...anyone in National Gaf FFL want to release a good RB or 2 that they can't use because they are out of the playoffs????? :D

What a weird thing to say...

Would you like to answer my question now? I think we all know which team I have allegiance towards.

Parcells is, what, 65 years old? He'll probably only be there a couple years. I would rather have him choose a new GM and coach of the longterm, but I can't imagine he'll be with the organizations for very long.

Learn to read....this is exactly what his job will be.

So you don't mind if he hires a GM and coach and leaves? He's a great coach, I don't know if he's great at finding a longterm solution at GM and coach.

Let's put it this way....How many teams has he left in worse shape than what they were before he arrived?

In other words, he might leave or he might not but he'll bring a plan and the plan will stay around for a while. Whether he admits to it or not, Patriot Bill owes a lot to Mr. Parcells as well.

The fact is, he's a great football mind and evaluator of talent. I trust him to hire a GM and coach far more than I trust Arthur Blank and Rich McKay. Even if that's the only two things he does, he'll have improved the team. But I fully expect him to stick around for a couple of years and oversee the draft and free agency.

So no, I really don't give a shit if he stays for a year or two and then leaves. I'm not looking for a daddy, I'm looking for someone to improve the organization and that's what he'll do as long as Blank doesn't fucking meddle, which I'm sure will be one of the stipulations of his coming here.

I could have said the same thing about Isiah Thomas. Then he ruined the CBA, Pacers and Knicks. Isiah has a great basketball mind, was a great player and knows talent. Doesn't mean his skills translated to coach or GM.

Just because Parcells is a great Head Coach doesn't mean he will be a great VP.

lol Chris Harris didn't even make third alternate...total bullshit; I can't knock Sean Taylor, but Harris deserved it over Sharper or Hamlin, even an alternate.

Chris Harris

Like Triumph said, he has always been a great evaluator of talent when he has been given the power to do so. Do you honestly think Romo would be where he is today if it weren't for Parcells helping to "find" him? He was stubborn in sticking with Bledsoe for so long but he still was the one to give an undrafted Romo a chance.

Please don't even joke about Bill Parcells and Isiah Thomas being similar.:lol

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Jason Garrett becomes the new Falcons coach.

I would be more encouraged if Parcells was the GM. I know he can find great talent in college and the pros. He has proven that. I don't know if he can find a person who can find great talent. I don't know if he can find a person to coach that great talent. It's a new role for Parcells.

I like ripping Isiah in any place I can. :D

And good guess about Jason Garrett. I bet Jones will make sure he doesn't leave, though.

True but Parcells has enough connections and respect around the league to get a GM that he knows and trusts. Also don't forget Scott Pioli (sp?) is related to him. It'd be a long shot to get him out of his New England contract but still.

Did you not notice where Parcells ruled himself out of coaching BUT NOT THE GMS POSITION???

...read up on his legacy. He knows what makes good coaches.

Nope, I didn't realize that. He probably won't be the GM, though, since he won't stay there long. I'm sure he'll at least help with this year's draft/free agents.

I know about his legacy. He usually works/grooms coaches befor he moves on. It's different trying to instill a guy in a new system like Atlanta has. Jason Garrett seems like the best bet, but I can't imagine Jerry will let him get away. Who else does Bill have positioned around the NFL now?

Triumph said:

This would go along with my point above. He could always opt to interim GM until Pioli is free to go where he pleases and then he'd not only have a stellar GM but also someone to hand the reigns over to if he should choose to once again retire.

I think I know the problem. Who the hell is Chris Harris?

OK, so now Ike Taylor may not start and Haggans will probably play instead of Woodley, extreme bummer. Everyone's favorite hero Anthony Smith gets benched (good) for Tyrone Carter. But they'll still have a SS playing FS. So if Stephen Jackson doesn't have a field day, look for Bulger to return to form. That's my pessimistic take anyway.

It's ok guys, it's just some guy name Parcella.

Starting Strong Safety for the Carolina Panthers and other than Jon Beason the only player worth a damn on D this year.

Well there's your problem, Hamlin and Taylor are free safeties.

Point stands that Harris should be in over Sharper, and there should've been two alternates considering Taylor's, uh, not actually playing.

It seems that nothing can go right for the Falcons this year. :(

It's time for Marty ball with McFadden as the star. If he helps us go 12-4, he'll get the key to the city not the unemployment line. :lol :D

The funniest part of Parcells turning down the job is that it's because Miami has a better offer on the table. The Dolphins.:lol

I'd much rather work for the Falcons. 2008 NFC South Champions!

I was thinking of the Scanner's bit as I read that...then found out Triumph thought the same thing.

Bravo.

I can't really lol at the Falcons because the Raiders have been in the same place for years (wrt getting coaches to come out there). I hear Lane wants out of Oak Town!

Seriously, this sucks balls. It's like getting a really great blow job but then she bites down and rips your dick off before you come...

But it sounds like Blank realizes that he needs to find other people to run the club, which is good because it's true. This debacle reinforces the notion that no one with any pedigree is going to want to come here if they have options elsewhere... even if it's with a team that has one whole win this year. So we're going to have to find people who want to take a chance to build their reputation, I'm thinking...

Shit, Davis and Blank should hire from this GAF thread. We can't do any worse than what's been done the past few years! :lol

Although I am doing pretty well with freelance, I can be had for the right deal. Money, hookers n' blow. Make it happen, Arty.

OJ Will take time off from his impending Court Case, to be the GM! GET TO IT, THE JUICE IS WAITING.

My point was that nobody knows who he is, so he's not going to get the fan vote. He needs a gimmick, like a sexboat scandel, or a dog fighting ring.

Too bad that's not what the Pro Bowl's for...hopefully soon fan voting is either marginalized or no longer used.

The 1-13 Miami Dolphins sent more players to the Pro Bowl than the entire NFC South plus the 10-4 playoff-bound Jacksonville Jaguars.

Greg Jones will be going in place of Lorenzo Neal. Bucs are still shut out! :(

Aight, ESPN. All this Parcells coverage is interrupting my Around the Horn and PTI!

Damnit! I hate when they do that shit. My DVR isn't smart enough to record PTI on The Deuce when they switch over for "big news."
