Pronger is one of the top D in the league but Lidstrom is the best there is. Don't look at his stats only (80 points in 80 games, +21) but look at him play every night. I think I could count on one hand the mistakes I saw him do in the last 5 years I've seen him play, he's the best there is and probably the only player worth the salary cap in the NHL.

But yeah about Pronger, he's great too, I'd probably rank him 2nd or 3rd behind Lidstrom and Nierdermayer.

Unbelievable game tonight

I'm glad it was on a Saturday so I could watch it with friends

Too bad I'll miss the first bit of the game on Monday because of work, but I'll definitely be watching it from the moment I get home and on the radio until I get there

The game on Monday should be amazing

Tonight was DOMINATION.

The best game I've seen the Oilers play all playoffs and perhaps the best game I've seen them play in years. Not so much offensively, but their defense was SOLID. I only heard the names "Staal" and "BrindAmour" a few times all night. Ironically, their best player was probably Erik Cole...

Whyte Ave was alright tonight. The police are really enforcing the laws now... and it's very civil. They're not letting the crowds spill out onto the streets; hence no need to reroute traffic; hence no big crazy group of drunks; hence no entertainment.

Monday will be crazy.

PS: Ward's save on the Oiler 3-on-1 was INSANE.

Pronger would be a candidate for D amn of the year if he didn't shit the bed so ****ing bad in the Olympics what the **** was that?

He did make a few mistakes which were costly in the Olympics but really our problem was our lack of scoring and our inability to beat the trap.

Pronger was playing with a broken bone in his foot during the Olympics, but he didn't pull out because Neidermayer had already pulled out.

And Pronger totally dominated both Lidstrom and Neidermayer this year in the playoffs.

Back to back season's a team from Alberta, Canada will come to within one game of the Stanley Cup. You have to wonder if the God's could be so cruel as to just be ****ing with Canada on both accounts.

At this point I'll say Edmonton wins it. Why not, they have the momentum, they have the confidence, and as tense as they will be, their still probably looking at it like they have nothing to lose, while Carolina will be thinking about how shitty it's going to feel to be one of the alltime biggest choke artist's in the history of the NHL playoffs.

Prediction for tongihts game:
- Raffi Torres Scores
- Oilers win by atleast 3

I ****IN CALLED IT.

I knew the Oil would pull though like this tonight. What a ****in game, like pochaco said... best game the Oil have played all year. Carolina got DESTROYED! Markinnen was great, all our players came out to play tonight. OILERS IN 7.

Props to Ward on the insane 3 on 1 save though, i feel so bad for Dvorak that he didnt bury it, the guy is due. He will score game 7.

I'm not a fan of either team really, but they have put on one hell of a series.
I'd rather Carolina win, but Edmonton's determination has been amazing. I can't believe they have come back. My hats off to both teams, regardless of who wins.

What the heck... the nhl draft has been moved to 6pm eastern time on saturday.

6 PM??

It was like a tradition getting up early on saturday to watch the draft..

Funniest part of the night was during the 2nd intermission, a "BOB COLE SUCKS" chant broke out in a few sections.

The next thing you know you see Bob Millen stand up in the press-box motioning us to stop that chant by shaking his head and waving his hand no. The chant stopped right away due to the respect for Bob Millen. :D

People stopped chanting against a respected CBC commentator because Gord Miller told them to stop?

I think you must be getting your names mixed up again, the story sounded more believable when the guy was called Bob Millen.

Pretty much what I'm trying to say is that TSN's Gord Miller signalled towards the few sections to stop with the negative chant towards Bob Cole.

Tommorow's game is going to be insane. I can't really make any predictions really, because I think it'll be a tossup really. The Oil have the momentum right now, but it is so hard to win in Ralaigh. The only thing I'm going to say is it is going to a very close game, and I beleive Dvorak will finally net one.

I pray to Hockey Jebus that he doesn't let the Oilers win tomorrow, but....

Pretty damn funny. :lol Just think of how awesome it would be if you were a fan of a Southeast Divsion team and the Canes do choke it all away, I'd find a copy of the mag (a couple actually) then have it blown up to poster size and taunt the Canes players with it each and every time they came to my rink. Greaser fans can thank Allan Muir if they win game 7 - hmm and while I'm thinking about game 7 i have an awful feeling it'll be a shit game. The Canes look gassed and confused, the Oilers have their terrible-to-have-to-witness cockiness back, it could be a laugher. Not many game 7s live up to the billing.

I have the feeling it will be a blow out too, just don't know who will blow who out.

I'm a Bolts fan here in Tampa. Excellent idea! :D
I will have to buy several copies of this magazine.

Can you imagine being Cam Ward, skating to your crease next year for pre-game warmups after losing a 3-1 series lead in choketastic fashion and seeing the fans in TB (or anywhere else) with a poster of that? Maybe a replica Cup to shake at him too... even money he collapses to the ice clutching his stomach like he was just kicked by a donkey.

welp.. im scared shitless about the game tonight.. and i just woke up.

At least theyve equaled the flames run in 04... so i dont have to hear about that bullshit anymore.

You guys are nervous? I've got a midterm at 7 and then I have to run to my buddy's place to catch what I can (I'm betting that I'll end up missing the first).

It's really a shame that if we DO win the cup it won't be in Edmonton.

Gator passing the cup over to Smytty and the subsequent roar of the crowd would have been magical...

I'm extremely nervous, I don't want the Canes to win the cup and I want a canadian team to win the stanley cup and I think the Oilers are the most deserving team to win it after the Habs.

I've gotta get my car to the garage tonight but as soon as I get home I'm turning the TV on to hopefully see Ryan Smyth raise the Stanley Cup above his head.

GO OILERS GO

Weight is skating this morning

****

I wonder if he's going to try playing. I don't want to see him on the PP.

"Sources tell Sportsnet Weight has received at least three injections in the last 24 hours to mask the pain of a third-degree right shoulder seperation suffered in Game 5."

gah

****ing SHIT. I'll have to miss the game tonight due to my goddamn work. Three Game 7's in the last three seasons and i've missed all three. :(

It's probably for the better.
Lord knows you wouldnt be able to watch the Oilers win the cup without your head caving in.

oh, wait. Did I say for the better?

I hate him, but I'll give him this much ... he's one tough mother****er if he plays tonight.

I really don't understand the hate for Doug Weight at all. Not even from Oiler fans. I think the only deserved hate would be from Sabres fans since he was so demeaning to Pominville and his team.

But man, dem, how're you feeling today. I was so young when the Canucks made it to Game 7 of the SCF, I remember being pretty nervous, but I was still only 10 years old, so it was more of a "yay go canucks!" than a "OH HOLY **** MY GOD DAMN ARTERIES WHAT THE CHRIST PLEASE WIN FOR THE LOVE OF VISHNU" apprehension.

It's weird, because I'm in full soccer mode right now- I play soccer two times a week, I've been waking up early to watch at least 2 soccer games every morning, and I'm in full Italia mode at the moment, going nuts whenever they play. I watch the SCF (and the NBA Final) if they're on TV when I happen to be flipping channels, but I haven't made it a point to find the time to sit down and watch the games ever since the Conference Finals ended (with the exception of tonight). So I'm not hyped about tonight at all...

You (and other Oiler fans on this board) must be sweating bullets though. I can't imagine what it must be like right now.

What's the word on the Canucks coaching situation Mike? Are you guys going to yank Peterson from us or what?

Its a shame that Hockey by far puts on the best playoffs of any sport that uses the series format, but still no one cares.

Carolina is my home team(though I'm a Kings/B-Hawk fan) so I'll route for them in game 7I guess , even though Edmonton winning would be a better story.

My memories at this point of Doug Weight are like this ... a few years back in the playoffs against Dallas (they all kind of run together for me now), he hit someone from behind in the first period, got ejected from the game and forced the rest of the team to kill a five minute major. I believe the next season, he left Edmonton for more monies.

It's been all over the place.

Initially it was said Alan Vigneault- former Habs coach and current coach of the Canucks' farm team Manitoba Moose- was going to get it.

Then Peterson's name briefly came up.

Then Tim Hunter (San Jose assistant coach, former Canuck) came into the mix.

Right now if I had to guess it still seems like Vigneault is the front runner, as his name didn't exactly go away when Peterson and Hunter rose up, but who knows.

I am fairly sure they're going to announce it soon, as I remember Nonis saying he'd have a coach in place before the draft.

He left? As a free agent?

Or did he get traded by the Oilers?

If that's the case, that he got traded because Edmonton couldn't afford the payraise that he deserved, I don't understand how the hell anyone can hate him for that.

That's 100% Edmonton's fault. Not Weight's.

I don't actually hate Doug Weight. He still seems like a great guy to me. When he played for the Oilers he was easily my favourite player. Before the season started I was dreaming of him coming back home.

I hate that Doug Weight left. I hate that he abandoned his ship for more money. I hate that he left for "a chance to win". **** him. **** his chance. Nothing would make me happier than seeing Ryan Smyth, who will NEVER leave Edmonton, raise the cup while Weights greedy ass sulks in the corner wondering "what if I had stayed?".

When Weight came back to Edmonton for the first time they had a francy tribute for him. We gave him one last cheer. For the rest of the game he was booed mercilessly. I loved it... it was rather fitting.

I'm more scared of losing than I am excited for winning.
It's almost sad (but necessary) that the Oilers have to win 1 more game to fully garnish the recognition that they deserve. After all, they've already:
-defeated the #1 team in the league as the 8th seed
-defeated the hottest team in the league
-overcome a nasty team-wide flu bug
-come back from a heart-breaking injury to Roloson

Yea, I could see them throwing it out there this week with the press rolling in for the draft and all. I heard Peterson's interview went very well, but it was kind of a surprise to me when I saw his name being tossed about, though there were some strong rumors of him hopping on the Penguins train with Shero.

I have $100 on the game (bet on the Eastern Conf. before the playoffs started). I never thought I'd have to cheer for the Canes, but I'm gonna have to.

The hero of the game will be

I completely understand where you're coming from, but-

When Ryan Smyth's contract(s) came up, he was much easier to afford the Doug Weight. Smyth is an underrated (and thus undervalued) player, but he (was) not worth as much as Doug Weight. I understand how anyone could feel betrayed by a player "leaving" (he was traded), but put yourself in Weight's shoes.

You're playing for a team that isn't going anywhere AND is under penny pinching terrible management. What are two things any hockey player in the NHL wants. Money (this is their profession) and the Cup. At the time he was an Oiler, Edmonton wouldn't offer him the money he deserved (at least according to market standards) nor the chance to (realistically) win the Stanley Cup.

I know that some players stick with certain teams because they feel a connection/duty to do so, but that's just not something you can realistically ask of the majority of players in any league. You set his standard to Ryan Smyth, but there aren't that many Ryan Smyths or Steve Yzermans left in this world. Ed Jovanovski is likely going to be leaving Vancouver purely for more money, and I'm not going to get all pissy at him like most Oiler fans do with Weight. What Jovo is doing is technically worse than what Weight did, since he's leaving as a free agent from a team that has a chance to contend for the cup (theoretically, depending on what moves are made in the off season) purely for money. Weight got traded by management because they couldn't afford him, and got players back for him.

I dunno, I just find the whole situation incredibly petty of Oiler fans. Why don't you go boo Gretzky the next time you see him too.

Weight handcuffed the Oilers and said he would only sign longterm with the Blues/Wings... which left us with a complete shit return.

Thank god we scraped Stoll out of that trade.

"Honestly, I think I might skate around the ice and jump into guys and see if I can catch anybody in the head," Cole said. "It seems to be their M.O. so we might as well play that way too."

Eh, I dunno ... I probably shouldn't say that I hate him. I hadn't even really given any thought to him until we actually started playing Carolina. Mostly just playoff emotion and such.

I know and understand why he left, it makes perfect logical sense. Still, when a player leaves a team for more money, it just hurts in a way and pisses you off. So yeah, it is incredibly petty, but I've seen you get plenty emotional about sport. Everyone does. I think it's pretty low to attack others for it.
