Official NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread - Semifinal Round

I'm not sure why Sens fans are so down on their forwards. They have put consistent pressure on the Sabres in every game. Sometimes a goalie is just too good, as Miller has been the last two games. Their defense, on the other hand, is just terrible. Take the winning goal, for instance. The defenseman was just mesmerized when Dumont caught the puck and put it on his stick. Didn't play the man, just kind of stood there and watched. Plays like that is the reason Ottawa is down 3-0. They just can't win tight games with D like that.

Sabres should sweep tonight if Miller plays decent.

I only watched the first overtime of the Edmonton game last night, but I'm glad Roloson came up huge after Hrudey said that he wasn't concentrating and was going to let in a goal.

Heatley has become a really good replacement for Hossa in the playoffs.
Not really. Heatley has been good on paper but if you watch the game you can clearly see he is struggling. He is missing simple one timers that he put in all regular season.

Hossa choked in the playoffs. It's a joke.

Pred fans were saddened by the news of the death of one of their more passionate fans. Thomas "Swamprat" Price passed away last Friday. Known affectionately as "Swampy", he was famous for his helmet he wore to every game, it had a red light that he gleefully turned on with every Pred goal. The upper bowl will not be the same without him. Condolences to his family, we will certainly miss him...

I know this probably doesn't mean anything to anyone here, but this guy was awesome. Great guy. My wife and I went to a Preds game after our wedding ceremony and when they put us on the teleprompter he spun his light for us and congratulated us after the game. We went on to win fans of the game that night.

Here he is on a header from ESPN this season...

RIP Swampy.

LOL @ the Canada Latvia game. :lol

The insane Latvia fans are throwing shoes and money at the referees because of bad calls against Latvia, leading to 4 Canadian goals. The Refs just decided to skip the last 2 minutes of the first period and give the fans time to calm down.

Crazy Latvians.

This Canada/Latvia game is AWESOME. Not only because of the crazy crowd and the officiating, but because Canada looks like it's playing pond hockey and skating around untouched. Sid the Kid looks like he's on his way to a tournament MVP award. Here's hoping Canada takes the gold. :)

The Sharks lost the game by deciding to sit back and do nothing for the entire third period. Hopefully they don't do it again in game 4.

Is there any place to see Rollie's save online?

11-0 Canada. Wow. What was that? 10 power play goals? This game got ridiculous.
Too bad they benched Crosby after he was repeatedly slashed by Latvian players. It could have been 20-0 easily.

Lalime was on OTR today talking about Ottawa's fortunes. I feel bad for the guy and that he'll likely only be remembered for that game 7 against the Leafs. His stats are actually pretty impressive.

Anyway, I do hope Ottawa wins tonight. They deserve at least a win or two out of this series, and I can still see them coming back and winning 4 straight. They just need to get the bounces that Buffalo's been getting. Also, their play in the defensive zone needs massive improvement. I haven't seen so many giveaways in a game since the Pens in the regular season.

What an effort by Briere to tie the game. It was only a matter of time til Buffalo scored though, they have the momentum this period, like the Sens had in the 1st period.

Great game, very tense at the end there. Whenever 2 really good teams are playing in a 3-0 series you can imagine the 0-3 team winning four straight, but you can't imagine the other team losing 3 in a row.

Sens need a huge effort at home, a good solid win then game 6 in buffalo we'll see if the sabres start to tense up. Except for this game, they've had all the breaks so far.

That's how I feel too. Mostly that the first 3 games also could have gone either way and the Sens could just as easily be up 3-0 right now if they had gotten a bounce or two. Really, they could still win this thing and showed that tonight. Emery made some key stops too, so hopefully the team has a little more confidence in him.

I don't want to hear this "bounce or two" crap. Buffalo hit three posts in game three and at least one tonight. Buffalo won the first three games because they played good. They lost tonight because they played bad (especially on the power play, which was atrocious). They need to play good again on Saturday.

When your team is outshot 44-17 and pulls off a win, I think that's what we call "stealing one." :) Miller's been good, no doubt about that.

It took you until the playoffs to realize you don't get OLN? Where have you been all season?

Oh, We get all the sharks games on FSN; Like every single one. this is the first time we had to watch it on OLN :(

Finally, Bates Battaglia will probably be called up, and the Leafs can have 1/3 of the BBC line to propel them to success.

While the reffing was just terrible in the Buffalo game ... it's no excuse.

They just didn't play very well.

Their passing was off, they gave away the puck all over the place, and half the time they looked like they were skating in a fog from a scheme point-of-view. Even with that said, they still had plenty of chances - and were putting on plenty of pressure (2nd and 3rd period at least - they sucked in the 1st).

Crap, hit a post and missed TWO empty netters. They had the chances, they just didn't capitalize on them.

Execution FTL.

Turgeon, Brisebois and recently acquired goalie Jose Theodore count in excess of $8 million next season against the cap, which this year limited team payrolls to $39 million.

You do the math, and try not to weep.

Any way the big cash is stacked, the Avs have wasted roughly 20 percent of their budget for talent on a washed-up 36-year-old center, the clueless, defenseless Brisebois and a net-minder who surrendered more than three goals per game in the playoffs.

When Forsberg departed Colorado, I looked at his history of chronic injuries and understood why Lacroix thought the Avs could no longer afford him.

But the Flyers acquired Forsberg for an average salary of $5.75 million, far less than the money Lacroix is gambling on Turgeon, Brisebois and Theodore.

Ouch.

I've always wanted an analyst from The Score to coach The Leafs.

This move had better pay off (doubtful) It seems to have been set in motion ever since he was hired for the Marlies, and since our stubborn ownership/gm intends to stick with the plan, it had better be the right one.

That article is a little misleading though. The Avs have more cash available now than just about any other team in the league.

If the Oilers play like they did the other night, it'll be another damn fine game. I want this thing to go to 7, if only for the entertainment value.

The only way the Oilers will win this series is if they win this game and really pound Toskola- something like at least 4-2. Even then I'm not sure if they can pull it out.

They dominated the 1st again...after the first 5 minutes, in which the Sharks did a pretty good job of capitalising on their first 2 shots - damn.

Toskala has been awesome.

My God this game is awesome, I hope this goes 7. Toskala totally pulled a Belfour, he shouldn't have gone for it.

That entire 2+ minute segment of San Jose getting chance after chance on the powerplay followed by Samsonov scoring on the breakaway out of the box was one of the BEST calls of a game of hockey I have EVER heard.

Jim Hughson is so fucking awesome.

HOLY SHIT! NICE!

This game just keeps getting better.
