So what do you guys say is sexier? DS-lite or PSP?

My vote goes to the lite, from that picture. Sorry, old chap.

Just going by that pic, I'd have to say that the new DS is sexier. Nintendo's done a complete 180 with the designs of the DS Lite and the Rev.

Depends on how DS-lite looks in real life. But I'd actually call it a wash. PSP for better screen and more attractive form factor (not a rounded square), DS-lite for less clutter and smaller size.

You can't really see but the original DS hinges are what's causing it to look like the height is the same....

i'll give my old DS to my girlfriend and buy a second sexy one :D

please, before the end of the year in Europe, please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOE, please, don't be silly boys, i want it for may or june, please !

Damn, you just know Iwata's going to be pulling this thing out of his pocket at E3.

Of course, he'll probably pull out the Revolution as well once again.

Gee, now that I think about it, how many things does he have in his pockets anyway?

I like it; it looks like I could hold it a lot better.

I wonder if I should go sell my DS tomorrow before anybody knows about this. Premium sell prices!

Though I don't think I could go several months without Animal Crossing.

Whatever, my screen is scratched to literal hell, so I'm happy about this and saw it coming from a mile away.

It's about how I pictured it. That's cool, that'll slide into my inner jacket pocket quite nicely. Hey nintendo, how's about sending the Play-Yan our way also?

You know, this redesign might actually give me an incentive to go out and purchase all the *other* games I missed on the DS that I really wanted to play. Advance Wars, Castlevania... even some GBA games, too!

Hmm...

D-pad looks like an improvement
Buttons look like they're Micro / V1 GBA / GBC-style
Smaller
Revolution styling
Lighter
Possibly V2 SP-like brightness

Sounds great to me. Might just be a graphic, but I'll bite.

Nintendo is designing a smaller Revolution too, the one that will actually come out, hehe.

the shell they've been showing is not as small as the final product :D

gba style d-pad. yeah!

But what's about GBA slot ?

In the larger image you can sorta see it, the shadow from the thing does'nt go all the way along the bottom. Its there.

Oh yeah, are we sure that's March 2nd and not Feb. 3rd?

yes, 3 is the month, 2 is the date. take a look at the date of the press release (1/26) and you'll see how it works. the characters are actually chinese so i can read it even with my limited literacy :)

Word. NES to SNES introduced curves on the controller... why not take the hint from your own history, N?

Some mental notes I took:

-The microphone is placed in a much better location.
-I looks like the volume and/or the power button is located on the right side of the machine, if you can see it.
-I LOVE the location of the power light.
-Does the touch screen look elevated to anyone else? I really like that idea.

This is a very very sleek machine. I might actually play Animal Crossing DS, now. :-/

Edit: I bet the new catch is "We took out the headphone jack." :lol

Is the Micro d-pad really that good?

I kinda liked the current DS d-pad. Far better than the PSP one anyway.

Yes it is, much much better. Its probably the best d-pad Nintendo's ever made for its systems.

First official statement from Nintendo of America reported on Joystiq:

"Nintendo President Satoru Iwata today announced Nintendo DS Lite, a slimmer version of the best-selling Nintendo DS™. Also featuring brighter screens, Nintendo DS Lite will launch in Japan in March. Nintendo DS Lite will be less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.

Nintendo DS has enjoyed extremely strong sales in Japan and around the world, selling more than 14.4 million units worldwide. The Japanese sell-through of the existing Nintendo DS hardware exceeded 5 million within 13 months, which made Nintendo DS the fastest-selling video game system there.

Nintendo will announce more information about the availability of Nintendo DS Lite in North America and other territories in the future."

Honestly, I cannot tell if it's elevated or depressed. Same with the top screen. Maybe one's raised and the other's depressed?

Yeah, getting a GBA is almost pointless now, unless you need a very, very compact machine.

The screens on this DS will be as good as the new GBA SP, probably even better. The adjustable lighting is a nice touch too.

Though there's a hand in the way, this is the closest to a flat open DS image I found on Google. All the others are with the system twisted in various ways, usually with the system open at something like a 135-degree angle. Going by the old and new sizes, I tried to match scales.

I'm betting it's just as with the original, so with the machine folded the buttons aren't being pressed.

OMFG... AWESOME!!!

I love the logo on the front. Simple, elegant...

This is the new Nintendo, folks.. I can't wait to see what kind of connectivity they bring with Revolution.

Not much else to say.. I hope it has the improved backlit screen!

Glad i waited this long, now if it would ship with Square's new baby i will be all set, FF/DS Pack FTW.

oh and find a way to convince the little lady how sick i am of the GBA SP :D

Looks really nice... :)

Me too... I like the current DS +pad [I like the 'click' it does]... and the buttons too [my only complaint is that they're kind of small, but I haven't had any problem with them]...
I haven't tried the Micro +pad yet...

True. I'm happy I chose to get the Micro over the GBASP+, at least that has something unique to it (super small form factor).

Once you try the buttons and d-pad on the Micro there's really no going back. For action games they are a must.

There goes another 150 bucks of my money. I can't stop buying the same shit from Nintendo over and over and over again.
Let's see how much Nintendo has pimped the GBA so far...

-GBA
-GBA SP
-GBA SP+
-GBA Micro
-Nintendo DS (GBA functionality)
-Gameboyplayer for GCN
-Nintendo DS lite

Hot DAMN.

Yeah I figured this new redesign would either launch with New Super Mario Bros. or a Square-Enix game.

Looks like its Children of Mana ... although I suppose Nintendo could also release Tetris DS the same day or a week later.

Nice very Nice.

I would like to see some pictures from the side to get a feeling of how big it is. For the moment it looks very nifty :)

Is no one irked that Nintendo didn't, you know, release this the first time around? No "early adopters am cry" angst?

Oh I'm sure there is, they're just not saying anything :P

Besides, all the smart ones waited :D

I think it's pretty much a fact of life now for all portable electronics.

Apple releases new i-Pod models every 9 months or so it seems.

Nintendo released several iterations of the GBA.

There's new cell phone models always coming out.
