Official Nintendo Media Event Thread! May 22-23rd!

According to Kotaku, they've moved the embargo date up or something... Supposedly ends tonight...

Earlier this week, I travelled to Seattle to check out Nintendo's summer line up for the Nintendo DS and Wii, the fruit of which will be going live tonight, not tomorrow as previously posted. That's 9 PM PST, if you're looking for a specific time frame. Look for lots of hands-on impressions, screenshots and video of what's coming down the Nintendo pike to go live throughout the night.

Sorry, but due to embargoes, I can't reveal what exactly what was covered at the Nintendo Media Summit, but I will say this: mini-game fans will not be disappointed.

The minigame comments don't sound very promising, but we're also supposed to get a CC trailer tonight if i'm not mistaken so maybe that will soften the blow if this ends up sucking.

Not sure how reliable Kotaku is (didn't they used to be a banned site or something???) but whatever.

I also read somewhere that there won't be any Super Mario Galaxy or Brawl news. All this doesn't sound too exciting. I'm shifting my focus to new E3 already. Edit: Oh I see the Smash thing is widely known, sorry.

Yeah it doesn't sound too promising. I'm trying to think of something interesting that might be there beyond the big 3 and i'm drawing a blank.

If disaster, project hammer or anything else really interesting was there, the journalists would be more excited.

Yea, for Wii it'll be:

Mario Party 8
Big Brain Academy
Pokemon Battle Revolution
Mario Strikers Charged
Battalion Wars (maybe)

Plus whatever's coming out on DS.

Still think there's probably something else there.

I remain hopeful for Battalion Wars, even as my hope looks more and more foolish. I want to BWiilieve (oh that's horrible).

It's supposed to have co-op and online. And it seems Striker's online is turning out well so far. So it might not be bad at all. :)

As long as Metroid, Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers all come out this year I could care less if Nintendo shows anything else.

My prediction is they won't show any new big games but may announce an original downloadable game. (I hope)

Oh I don't mean for the game. I have no doubt the game will turn out good as I enjoyed the original and this looks to build well on the strong foundation it laid. I was referring to being hopeful of seeing something BWII-related out of this event.

I doubt we'll see anything we don't already know of, and anything we do see won't involve games coming out past September. This show is basically for hyping up Q2-3 releases.

I second David's
..........

I hope it's cos he knows something cool and not cos he's eyeing the pages and pages of senseless Nintendo hype with disdain. Mind you, being drunk would be fine. I wish I was drunk.

Does your work at Sony ever take you near the Liverpool offices? I wanna get drunk

Mario Party Trilogy announced. Contains the first three Mario Parties graphically remade and with brand new controls!!!

All the guy does a post some dots and GAF goes crazy?

Doesnt mean anything.

actually, I think it probably mean that our salivating over such meager news is pathetic, but I'm not nessecarily good at interpreting dots.

edit// or it could mean that twisted metal DS is in development and he's leaving sony forever!!!

He's also confirmed that he's working with Miyamoto on a Kid Icarus sequel by simply posting in this thread.

Does it have a boobies mini-game? Can I flick Palutena's nipples with my Wii-mote?

The coolest minigame related thing that could possibly be posted is Mario & Sonic at the olympics... And somehow i'm doubting that.

Or i guess disaster could be sort of a minigame collection. There has been some speculation that it's something akin to the old demolition man game.

Well, have fun with it, but unless he's deving for a Nintendo system, the specualtion is unwarrented.

Well most of this speculation is us just joking around.

Apprently your sarcasm sense isn't tingling. :(

Mini games: Big Brain Academy, Mario Party, Carnival games.
non mini games: Metroid, Battalion war, Strikers.

Atleast i hope this is what they meant.

So how many minigame compilations are out/coming out now?

1. Rayman Raving Rabbids
2. Wario Ware
3. Wii Sports
4. Wii Play
5. Cooking Mama
6. Big Brain Academy
7. Carnival Games
8. That Shitty EA Game
9. Mario Party 8
10. Rayman Raving Rabbids 2

I KNOW there's more.

FOR ****'S SAKE DEVELOPERS STOP THIS SHIT. MAKE A REAL ****ING GAME FOR ONCE GOT DAMN YOU!

There's nothing wrong with meeting the market. Wii Sports and Wii Play sell like crazy, having more games like that can't hurt. It's not like tons of effort is required. I want more "pure" titles but these games don't offend me; I know Mario Party 8 will by my first Mario Party game.

That sums it up, but Wii sports and Big Brain are kind of different and i dont really count them as minigames.

The problem is that the system has been out for about 7 months now, and it's already saturated with mini-games. If they want to emulate Nintendo's success, they need to make something truely unique and revolutionary. But they're not, they're just pushing cheap shit out the door with their fingers crossed.

It's annoying as hell.

Well yeah, I'm probably as likely to buy most those games as you. But they'll only make them if they sell, and if they sell than there's nothing wrong with the mentality.

Then I suppose the question is, are they selling? I know Rayman did well, and so did Wario Ware. Wii Sports and Play are selling too.

I have to wonder about the rest, though.

I wish they'd move on to more stuff like Rygar, Final Fantasty CC, and even some FPS games like Red Steel (but tuned and de-bugged). But nooo, we've got mini-games.

The WORST part is most of these companies are trying to charge $50 for them. Freakin nuts.

Its like devs always try to follow the hot trend for a quick cash-in, no matter what the genre, no matter what the system. Oh well if at least one of those games completely bombs it wouldn't bother me :P

Don't lump the two together. One's a non-game, the others are minigame collections. I prefer non-games over minigames without a doubt.
