Official Nintendo Switch Unboxing - Nintendo Minute

Jesus at the negativity in here. Nintendo Minute is a lighthearted show they do every Friday and this is just the same for the Switch. Get a fuckin' grip guys, plenty of more in-depth games press stuff will come to the fore. This is not aimed at that market.

So, are you guys going to use the Switch docked or handheld when you first open it?

I'm thinking, I'll use it in handheld mode to start it up and do set-up. I'll dock it when I go to start to Zelda, to see the opening of that game on the TV, then I'll probably switch it back and forth a few times for the novelty once I get going in the game.

Depends on where I am. Midnight launch with the GF coming. If we go back to my place, I'll use it in the dock. If we go back to hers it's handheld mode.

I'm probably gonna play 99% handled anyway

Will likely use it in handheld mode to do the setup as well and then switch to the TV. I'm going to want to let the JoyCons charge a little first so I might take a break between the setup and playing Zelda to make sure I do a few things so I can play for a few hours without interruption.

Dammit. I don't need one, but I want one.... Just need to hold out to see if it has enough games that I want. Must not impulse buy.

I'll be picking mine up at midnight, but I need to get to work for 8 AM the next morning so I'll have to set it up/play around in portable mode during the day. Later that evening I'll start Zelda on the TV and transition to portable mode when the wife wants to go to sleep upstairs.

I know EXACTLY what Kit is talking about in this video. New consoles only come around so often, so there's a quality to touching (and even smelling) new hardware and it's packaging.

I'm also the guy that carefully dismantles my gift wrappings at Christmas. Don't you judge me! :P

Haha yeah, it's hard to get used to the negativity here. Maybe we shouldn't.

The Nintendo Minute isn't actually 1 minute long videos?

Someone didn't watch until the end.

Yeah, it is a Nintendo Minute so similar to a Hot Minute, you could say.

It is of the length Nintendo intends it to be every time; never too long and never too short, but exactly as intended for the occasion.

Yeah... The people who seem to be overwhelmingly negative like to spread it in every thread. I "got used to it" by just putting them on my ignore list. It's one thing to have a discussion about opposing view points, and it's another to just hop around trying to shit on things for the sake of it.

The video is meant as PR and as such it does its job in my opinion. I don't blame them for having their job.

I'm surprised the Switch's screen is facing the outside of the box and there is only like 1/2 inch of cardboard protecting it. Any force to that spot would probably ruin the screen or at least damage it. Weird.

So the unboxing is cool and all, but lets talk about what's really important. Where can I score one of those sweet Switch hoodies?

I also appreciated the smelling of the system. Reminds me of smelling the instruction books in new games back in the day. I'm old and weird.

Glad to finally see what was in the box, but did we really need 11+ minutes for that? Also I know Nintendo Minute is their thing, but I really cannot stand the vibe between those two. They distract from the product rather than promoting it. Where is the sexy black guy from the Nintendo Switch Event, he had the right balance between excitement, playfulness, and knowledge. These two are just....something else entirely.

I really can't get over how ugly the switch and all its parts are. The straps not being part of the joycons also seems really dumb to me. At least I'm getting split controllers back.

This Box is SMALL. I don't if you ever seen Krysta in real world context, but that woman is TINY. the fact that she can grip that box with one hand is amazing lol.

Speaking of the box art. Nintendo's box marketing reminds me of Sega's with the Dreamcast.

this is NOT the japanese switch box. this is the special box you can get when you buy from the online store.

Is that for sure the Japanese box, though? I thought the red box was an online-only thing and they have the same design on the box that North America does.

Cute video. Kind of wish there were a few more B-roll shots of the box and its contents before being removed but eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. There will be other channels that do it too.

Makes me think back to Iwata's unboxing of the Wii U where he wore white gloves and kept apologizing for the mess of plastic bags.

I miss you Iwata ;_;
