Official Patapon (PSP) LOVE Thread

It's on mission 8, I am on number 22! All I want to know is if the game has a new game +/clear game can do whatever you want mode?

That stage is one of those stages that you can replay over and over again. So you don't actually have to restart it. This is formerly the desert stage where you have to do the Rain miracle.

What I still don't understand about this game is how to play it. I haven't been able to catch those vegetables.
You just keep hitting O constantly to the beat. Basically, one press for every time the edge of the screen flashes.

When the veggies pop out, you wait for the sound to stop and press O for however many veggies you got. (all in time, of course). I'm not really sure how to properly explain this.

Ok, I don't get this game at the moment. I'm trying out the demo and I can't figure out what it wants me to do. I got past the intro story doing the first interactive part where it's telling me to do Sq, Sq, Sq, Circle to the rythem but everytime I do it, nothing happens. It even says "That's it!" Pata Pata Pata Pon! Onward March! Onward March! and it just keeps telling me to take turns while drumming, then they sing pata pata pata pon and I don't do anything. Am I missing something?

facepalm.gif.

You have to keep doing the combo. The game is all about rhythm and the like.

I've kept doing it to the rythem and I feel like I'm getting no progress or response of anything that I'm making progress. How long do I have to keep doing it? I've done it like 6 times waiting for my turn in the song like the text tells me.

Basically you start the rhythm by pressing pata pata pata pon. Then the little patapons do the same thing and advance. After they finish chanting it's your turn keep the rhythm going. There you can either change the command or continue the pattern by pressing pata pata pata pon again.

In addition pay attention to the outline on the screen. Once it blinks when the patapons are done singing (it'll blink to how they're singing, and then it'll blink fast twice I believe) it's your turn to start up the beat again and so on and so forth.

Wait I'm supposed to continue the beat while they're singing because when I do, it tells me that I have to wait my turn and let them finish singing. Each time I do it, it tells me the same text that I pasted so it's telling me I'm doing it right but I get progress. I know about the white boarder and I'm using it to help my timing and I'm at least getting feedback that my rythem is right, I'm just not going anywhere.

You continue the beat right after they finish singing their turn.

I see, maybe that's the problem cuz they told me to wait for the music to end so I'd wait for their drum beats to finish when it would be silent which I assumed was my turn then, then they would sing, then it would be a drum solo with some music, and then silence, and I would repeat. Why would they tell me wait for the music to end instead of the singing?

Maybe.

Anyway, I finally progressed after I beat the first boss for the second time. But what bothers me is that I already beat him on the demo, and it saved my progress (I had the Spear of Protection)--why did I have to fight him again?

You don't have to fight him again when continuing after the demo. Maybe later you will want to but you definitely don't have to right away.

Speaking of difficulty spikes, it looks like I've encountered another one. I've already got the Don drum (the X button) and I'm now being asked to tap out the pattern "X-XX-XX" when the Patapons are in Fever mode. The problem here is that it's not apparent what the timing is supposed to be for "X-XX-XX". I've tried the following phrases, all with failed results:

Beat 1: X
Beat 2: XX (rapidly)
Beat 3: XX (rapidly)

Beat 1: X
Beat 2: (pause)
Beat 3: XX (rapidly)
Beat 4: (pause)
Beat 5: XX (rapidly)

Beat 1: X
Beat 2: (pause)
Beat 3: X
Beat 4: X
Beat 5: (pause)
Beat 6: X
Beat 7: X

I'm not sure which (if any) of these is correct. I tend to fail it around the second beat, so I'm not even given any clues as to whether I'm on the right track. I had better success figuring out Brutalities on Mortal Kombat Trilogy than I am having here.

This wouldn't be so bad, except that you have to get the Patapons to Fever before you can get the opportunity to attempt X-XX-XX. So, when you fail, you've got to work other drum patterns for 5-10 measures to get to Fever just so you can try X-XX-XX again. It's quite tedious.

Just verbally repeat back what the are saying "Don DoDon DoDon" and tap the buttons to your voice. It needs to be in the same time measure that the song is. It's not tap "X" rapidly or slower it's to the tempo.

Because to the Patapons the chant = the music. So you don't do anything until they finish their chant. After they do, you do another chant. Then they repeat your chant then you do another chant. And so on and so forth. The music in the background is just the icing on the cake but you shouldn't really follow the music.

In other note, I managed to find another minigame. It's the rock monster thing. This one seems easier than the flower minigame but I still haven't been able to get the rhythm right.

That new movement PON PATA PON PATA (running away like chicken) is nifty. That's what I always wanted every time I fight Majidonga Level 5 because he keeps eating my Patapons when they get too close.

And damn those Zigotons. They're persistent. Although I can't help but wonder if what Gong said is true (we, Patapons are destroying the world).

When it comes to catching them just spam O after she launches them.

Nice. I hope Sony realizes that they have a good game with sequel potential in their hands with Patapon. It's been a while since I'm this obsessed with a game.

It's basically one two three four, input input input input and so on.

Can someone post screens of their ingame? Preferably interesting screens. I'm @ work and love drawing them while I sit here and wait for work. There arent many pics I like on the net so far.

Pon Pon Pata Pon!

Just thought I'd be the 23104104th person to express their LOVE for the demo save feature. After putting over an hour into the demo, it was so nice to be able to save my progress. I resumed when I got the retail version and I'm cruising/grinding ( :[ ) now.

My mission now is to simply discover a way to DESTROY those stupid birds that inhabit the first hunting mission. My army will eat bird meat -- they HUNGER for it.

Helpful hint: Don't use the axe guys, just spear and arrow guys.

I unlocked almost all the minigames, but I can't catch the vegetables for NOTHING, and that means I can't use the cook :( The baby mountain was hard to get right to begin with, and now he is easy.

Is there a way to send only the spear/arrow Patapon up to attack other than not bringing any melee Patapon? I always find that my arrow Patapon are moving up the the front lines, preparing for a volley, but then their "turn" in the song/march ends. Once that happens, they seem to get forced into the next maneuver chant animation. It has been a little frustrating so far, but there are probably ways around it.

Not really. The axe guys are always in front, and they are usually faster, so they will attack (and scare off) the animals first.

Just dont send your axe guys out for that mission.

When your in the equipment screen you can remove the axe guys by pressing square. that way you only send out arrow/spear guys.

I know how you feel, my guys wanted those birds so bad, but they were to fast for us. I got Fever mode and killed the birds and ate their meat.

Thanks for the (pro)tips. I think I'm going to try to kill some birds now. (If the game had a WiFi item sharing feature, I'd totally share the spoils with you dudes.)

Protip: Megapons (I think they're called that, the musical ones) are
very, very strong, especially in fever mode

That's what I would have thought, ordinarily. However, in my case it wouldn't let me progress until I fought him again. As I said earlier, I did get to fight another boss after I opened it up from the hunting level, but even after beating that one I couldn't get any further. It wasn't until I went back and defeated the first boss again that it finally opened up another level.

Also, after I beat the second boss and went back to map, it showed level 2 on the map. The first boss (that I beat on the demo) didn't have a level displayed on the map, but after I beat him the second time in the final game it showed level 3.

Based on this, I think my save file is glitched, so I'll delete it and start over.

Yep, I've tried that. The problem is that the timing is not clear. That's why I said it would have been nice if they had a tutorial portion that demonstrated what the timing is supposed to be. I don't know the timing, so it's become an arduous process of trial and error to try and guess the timing (since the obvious ones aren't working).

I gave three examples in my post. Are any of those even close, or am I way off? Based on the notation you see for other rhythms when you press Start, I would think it's the first one, but I've tried that many times and constantly failed.

The Rain JuJu can only be used in Fever mode, the game does a poor job of explaining it. I had to watch a Youtube video to figure it out.

my god, I strengthened my forces as much as I can and I still can't beat the sandworm. wtf?

there's no place as far as I can see to get better items from, and I've maxed out as much as I can on units. What gives?

on top of that, going into defense doesn't really stop that much damage, if any. it's more worth it to just go all out offense.

any tips? wtf

edit: WOOT just did it. wen't all out attack basically

Yeah, don't bring the Axe guys on hunts. Also, if you have the rain JuJu, you can make it rain before you hunt too. Then spam the hell outta FEVER. You will slaughter the birds in the rain, because you can now bring your hunting party in twice as close without them catching on.

I'm loving Patapon, but as a portable game it is complete shit. I can't count the number of times I've had to ditch out of a level when my train arrives, when I have to show a ticket, etc.

This thing should have been a download title for PSN alongside the PSP version. Hell, if they put this out on PSN right now, I'd happily pay another 20 bucks to download it. It's that good. I just don't like playing it on my PSP.

Yep.

My kickass boss-raping army consists of:
six rank 7(super atk up) yumipons, 2 rank 7 megapons, one rank 3 megapon, one rank 7 kibapon, one rank 8 kibapon, and one rank 2 kibaopn. They all have pretty uber equipment too. I can stun low level bosses fairly easily with two consecutive fever attacks.

Total ownage.

what are these
ranks
you speak of? how can I achieve? is there a list anywhere of what material makes what pata?

When you combine two basic materials (e.g. level 1 meat and level 1 stone) you get a basic, black and white, level 2 patapon. When you combine materials to make new patapons, select one of the materials slots with X and choose a higher level material to create your patapon.

The level of your created patapon will be the sum of the levels of your combined materials.

cafeteria meat (lvl1) + branch (lvl1) = level 2 yaripon (B&W)
tender meat (lvl2) + branch (lvl1) = level 3 yaripon (orange)
cafeteria meat (lvl1) + cherry tree (lvl2) = level 3 yaripon (orange)

and so on and so forth.

Keep in mind that creating higher level patapons will require more money. Also, any patapon level 3 and higher will not be able to wear hats.

gotcha, been doing that, but money comes SO slow. trying to make a level 5 or 6 bow and arrow guy, but it cost 750 and i only get like 50-100 kaching per level. any faster way to make cash?

My Diablo run tendencies are coming out again and I am doing missions over and over again to see if I can get any good drops.

Funny thing about the Gong drop was that I haven't been able to get anything good from the other Zigoton unique soldiers (just their hats).
Okay, I'm pretty sure Gong's scythe is the only unique zigoton weapon I can get.

well, the first hunting level seems to yield lots of cash since there's a lot of low HP animals there. Also, try to rain arrows down on the flowers as that will make them spit out more money,

the best place that I have been to so far for money is the "lucky star" stage. But I don't know if you're there yet.

the first hunting missions yields about 300 kachings per around

You can also replay the hunting level in which you obtain the Earthquake miracle (the one where Hichipon drops tons of Kaching). This level typically yields 500+ Kaching. I agree with you though, the kaching-to-item drop rate is unbalanced and it would have made it more enjoyable if they had made items sellable or something along those lines.

It's random every time. the first mission I've gotten as much as 250, but averages much less. Haven't gotten the EQ one yet, I look forward to that. On my first escort quest now.
