Official Patapon (PSP) LOVE Thread

2. Why is it that when I do fight the first boss the second time, he doesn't have a level indicator, yet he's nearly unbeatable?
It is perhaps a bug. I don't think he's unbeatable at all though. I beat him on my first attempt when I started a retail game. You're pretty much forced to beat bosses a few times over to collect their drops, so you might as well get used to it early on :P

However, if you can beat Majidonga, and get the X drum, then use that drum on the first hunting stage to unlock the Rain miracle, what's preventing you from continuing the game? Can't you access the desert stage?

I think the demo's interface with the actual game is a bit buggy. Like forcing you to fight Dodonga again with the Spear of Protection, which is itself buggy because it never auto-equips in the battle setup menu. I did a fair bit of grinding in the demo before the full game was released, and I think Dodonga still whipped me the first time I played, but the next time I was more conscientious with my Fever and he was no problem.

Now I'm back to grinding, for Lv 4 materials from level 5+ bosses, and it's getting pretty boring. With no further story option to keep me going, the only desire is to collect as many rare weapons and max out my patapons as much as possible, but having to restart every time I do an unsuccessful battle is an OCD nightmare.

Fortunately GoW:CoO is almost upon us.

Why restart the bosses based on the item dropped? Don't your Patapons also gain a lot of power after completing a boss? you have the chance to lose a few in the fight to craft more powerful patapons.

Slight beginning spoilers.

Ok. From what I understand, as soon as you beat a boss, you are always given the option to fight him again, but the fight is always optional and the bosses increase in level/difficulty after every victory. Story wise, After you beat the first dragon, Dodonga, you find and get the compass (which you did), and that takes you to the second dragon, Majidonga (not to be confused with Dragon 1 Dodonga, Level 2). After you fight and beat the *second* dragon, you should immediately be able to move on to the desert.

If the above scenario hasn't happened, If you haven't unlocked and defeted both dragons Dodonga & Majidonga then I guess your game is gliched.
My game must be glitched too. The same thing is happening to me. (beat the first boss in the demo)

Maybe if I could sell my unused items for ka-ching, I would do so. As it is, the only way to really build the cash to play this way is to grind the first level (or the star level on the rare occasion that it's stopped raining). Also, you can retire patapons at any time, so there's no need to allow bosses to eat them (as it is, it's often my Mogyoons that get eaten, since they're often slower).

Also, I don't think the patapons themselves gain any power after beating a boss. If a boss drops a nice weapon, or even a lesser one that I don't have, sure, I'll save after that. But for dropping some lv3 items? No thanks.

I don't think beating the boss in the demo counts.
You have to do it in the real game.

Tried this last week but couldn't get into it at all. Retried again late last night from scratch and I can feel the love now. It all didn't click until I had more than just march and attack beats. When defend was thrown into the mix it all seemed to make more sense than it did before. Pity there's no replay ooption. I find I'm so focussed on the beat I can't take in all that's going on. Occassionally I've caught a (humourous) comment and it's made me lose track of my beats because it caught me off guard.

It's all good so far though.

I feel like I am stuck at the mission 24, I think?
I think it is the final battle against Gong in the valley

I really feel like I need some more Moogyons, but not wanting to use my Mythereel, I need some Cedar to upgrade my archers. I have fough the dragon up to level 11, and a few other bosses but I can NOT seem to get Cedar. Only other option is to upgrade a different troop type that I can get level 4 meat and hope they make the difference. I really don't know which direction to spend the time in...

You don't really need very strong troops. Maybe try a different combination of units, and a divine stew should really do it if you're having big problems. At that point I believe I was exclusively using archers, spears and megapons...

You don't get Megapons yet :( I have a feeling they would really help. I have a divine stew, and was saving it for no appraent reason. I forgot that they are pretty easy to make!

Really? I don't have to worry about the timing?

It works better for me that way. At worst I missed one vegetable but most of the time I catch all 3.

DeadGzuz said:
Yes, this was screwing me up. Frenzy was messing up my rhythm. Also use the hunting level (for meat) and tree guy (to get rocks and sticks) to fill out all spots in your army, the hard part was to get the rocks to drop from the tree. Is this random or skill based?

Forget trying to get rocks (you mean Ore, right?) from the tree. Sure, once in a blue moon, it may drop it but it's not worth the stress trying to get Ore from it. Later on, once you get the baby mountain minigame, you'll score Ore like no one's business.

How fast are you guys pushing the button? I'm going like track-and-field speed and I usually catch one.. I'm wondering if I should slow it down to "vertical space shooter" speed.

Any way you slice it, though, one is better than my consistent zero from before. It's the most messed up minigame of the ones I've unlocked...

You should drop it to the rhythmic speed. Same speed you used during the vegetable game, same speed that the border around the screen is pulsing.

Yeah, that's true.

Woohoo! I beat the level. I used
tailwind
and took out those darn
musicians
from a distance and I was fine. In fact I had to do it like four times to get the
scythe and not the helm.
Got a couple of other goodies too :D Once it clicks, it is cake.

I then beat the next boss no problem. I really need to find some mythereel and cedar though, as I am seriously short on level 4 ingredients.

I got the weapon the first time. When does he drop a helm? I'd like to have both :(
Poor Gong, I liked him. That other guy is a douche and betrayer

Beat the game this morning, woot. Took me about 12 hours. Awesome game, I had a hard time putting it down. Now reading up on the FAQ it seems like my Patapons are quite weak. Time to pimp them up and kill some bosses!

So I'm just a little LTTP but Walmart.com delivery sucks :lol

I have a question. Say if I played the UK Demo + US Demo and both have a save. and the Full game is a US game. will it only recognize the US Save or both?

EDIT: nevermind. found out. Oh well. I put in 3 hours in the demo. glad it picked up where i left off! Time to go play <3

Well, in the olden days, one used to sacrifice their first born....so....:D

Hey this is a lot harder than it sounds! The crab always runs off after a couple of attacks and I think the only way to kill one of my guys is to leave them out in the lightning for as long as it takes for one of them to die. Weak! But I guess it's my own fault for not doing the star stage properly when I killed spider helmet.

I just got the game after playing the demo.. I got the old "Desert won't open up until after you beat Dodonga again" bug.

I've got the miracle thing, but I haven't went for the X drum yet.. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to be able to do that. There's absolutely no way at this point to prevent being eaten, right? Not until later when we get the run away command? I've got three good melee pons and I don't want to lose them :( And there's no way I can survive without the defence song (which is more or less worthless without some shield guys)

No, I couldn't go to the desert unless I went back and beat the first boss again. Like I said, I accomplished everything else you mentioned, but was still stonewalled at that point. It was only after I beat the first boss a second time that the game would allow me to progress.

I beat that level the second time with just two bow dudes left. And my patapon after they won walked right by one of the hats:( I'm just lucky it wasn't one of my rarepons. And that that dinosaur can't gobble

OMG. so i beat the dinosaur on my second try [my army sucked badly but I managed :lol]. before I beat him though he dropped a red staff. I could NOT get it as he was pushing me back away from me. I was trying to defend but the damn arrows killed him.
I started walking to the other side of the screen. I mean i picked up everything on the way but the damn staff was too far to touch before Mission complete screen popped up ;( That sucked so bad.

Is there any benefit to using dekapons at all? There isn't as far as I can see. Kibapons have them beat speed and damage-wise, and tatepons have better speed and defense and have approximately the same offensive capabilities as far as attack speed and damage are concerned.

They have that nifty earthquake attack after a charge, but it's useless to me since I can't play any story missions anymore.

damn I am stuck on the rain level!

Can somebody help me out with teh timing for the rain dance song, I was only able to get it working when I had to in order to start the level but I find it hard to keep going.

One time I did and it stopped raining in teh middle and I could do nothing to keep the rain going.

finally got the game, OMFG.

Incredible, i'm speechless. The art direction is top notch (Rolito's a genius, period), the sound is AMAZING and the gameplay is somehow just magnetic: the thing that really struck me is that you don't actually play the game...it's the game that plays you.
This one will be remembered in years for sure, it's insanely rad... a killer application for sure, i'm happy i bought a PSP just for this last saturday.

And BTW man it's hard!! (which is perfectly fine with me as long as it doesn't get frustrating!)

Is there a way to reliably get stone in the time just before beating the second boss and getting the rain juju? I never get any from the first hunting ground, do any of the 'terrain' items drop stone?

I want to make another cheap Tatepon to slightly lower the chances that one of my good ones get eaten by the 2nd boss, plus I want to add some more bow guys, and both require stones...

I was able to get rocks from the first hunding ground. The slow moving dudes drop them sometimes. You may have to re-play the level a few times.

Just beat the game last night, and WOW, what a game. The last 4-5 levels were cake. I don't even think my guys were very high level in general.

I am so addicted to maxing out my guys, though, I will keep fighting the bosses for cool loot for a while yet. The last couple bosses have dropped a ton of good stuff during the battle, let alone at the end!

Yay, I was stuck but then I finally got the star which let me unlock the plant dude which let me give cabbage to the soup guy etc etc needless to say it's all forward momentum again!

Get Fever up, and it's Dom (slight pause) DomDom (even slighter pause) DomDom, the DomDoms are kind of on the back beat. Also if it stops raining, get Fever back up and do the "Dom, DomDom Domdom" again.

just beat it. gotta return the psp tonight. 7 day trial is over XD I destroyed the boss, last night he owned me so hard too, shows you what dodging can do.

however,
wtf was with the ending? did I miss a battle or is that seriously it?

Agreed on all acounts. Rolito's designs are amazing - I wonder if he did the animation too? Animation is so damn great and fitting in everything in the game, to the smallest detail.

I havn't read any of this thread as to avoid spoilers, but I'm stuck (early in the game, I assume).

I'm attacking a Zigapon stronghold after I first get the catapult. The castle with the spike traps and rock slides in front of it. They keep on either wiping out my forces, or destroy my catapult. I feel like I need to upgrade my guys somehow, but I had already maxed out the number of each of the 4 current troops I can make. Is there a way I can *sob* snackrifice any of my current troops to make stronger ones? Get more catapults? Upgrade my current troops? Please avoid spoilers if possible.

In the army equipment screen, select a specfic patapon, push "select" to "retire" him from your troops.

Actually you may not need to upgrade your army to pass that stage. You were putting your troops too close to the castle. Next time, stop your troops where it's about one screen away from the castle (barely see the castle at the right end of your screen), then start issuing the attak command. The catapult has a very long attack range. It will destory the castle before it can do anything to your troops. Put the Axe and Shield guys at your front line instead of the horse guys. The shield guys will provide good protection for your catapult to get its job done.

Ok, 7 hour in, it's one of the best games i've EVER played.

It's like a new REZ imho, something so fucking avant garde that will be remembered in YEARS and that will not lose its charm being so ahead of its time...

And what leaves me breathless and completely awed is the fact that this game actually makes you live a TRUE sensorial experience by putting you in a hypnotic state of mind where you just think and act and live everything in 4/4 -and boy you're so INTO the rhythm you don't even need a HUD!-, completely changing the way you usually relate to the medium (where the better reflexes mean the better results).

It's just SHOCKINGLY AWESOME.

how the hell do you beat the first boss? fire breath bastard just beats the crap out of me every time, is there a way to dodge/avoid is attacks?

Am i supposed to go the hunting area over and over untill I have 18 patapon?

It's better getting all 18, when in fever mode your archers throw 3x times more arrows than normal this would cause the dinosaur-thing to at least get stunned now and again, cutting out the fire breath attack when it readies itself if your lucky.

Keep you patapon in Frenzy. People say to tap you feet, count in your head, and/or etc., but I found that listening to papaton fight song is best way. In Frenzy mode, they sing ...fight, fight, fight, and then other sound stuff. After the "fight, fight" portion is time to start the command again.
