It was $19 CDN, so I had to pick up. Impressions (much) later.

where from? I was just checking the Canadian EBgames site and they have it there for $39.99 WTF???

edit- nm Future Shop has it for $19 woot

This thread should not leave the first page of GAF!

Is there any penalty to having your patapons die and ressurrect? I lost just about all my dudes fighting one boss and was wondering if I should replay it or just rez and continue?

Kitton gotta patapon yesta day.

The damn Sand Worm keeps kicking my ass XD
Not really spoilers....but
In the beginning, I think the best way to handle him is to simply overpower him (stronger units/more units), thereby interrupting his attacks (I used Arrow-Spear-Axe). Keeping your distance at times to avoid his body smash attack with CHAKA CHAKA PATA PON helps out too. At times, if I didn't have time, I wouldn't purposely screw up a drum command to help pull back my extended Axe units quicker....not the most graceful technique....

First it was the
desert
, now it is the
windmill
level that is kicking my ass. And the bleedin' gamefaqs walkthrough labels it as an easy level...

So CDuniverse.com just mailed me telling me that the game has gone straight from preorder to backorder. FUCK IT.
A little disappointed, i went to dvdboxoffice.com to see if the game was available there... and it's available in 14 days. O_o
After this i went checking Tronixweb.com and guess what? it's on backorder there too.

WTF?!?

Have you guys had trouble finding the game over there (i'm from Italy)? do you know if Sony shipped just a few copies or what?

I picked it up last night at Target after realizing that Amazon would not have my copy here by the weekend. I played through the demo with no problem, fired up the game, built up my army and bit more in the hunting grounds... and promptly got my ass handed to me by the dinosaur I had previously owned. Wasn't expecting that. The game is still made of fucking awesome though and even after my crushing defeat I can't wait to come back to it tonight.

1. There is no leveling them. The items you use to create them determines their strengths, along with items.

2. New equipment drops on the the levels where you fight enemies, and MAYBE on the boss fights (can't remember for sure). Other than that, you will just need to build better guys.

3. You can get stones from the tree minigame.

One Tip: Don't be so quick to dispatch your base Axe, Spear, Horse, or Arrow units...those units are the only units that can equip Hats, and depending on the equipment, they can easily outclass at the very least the second class units.

No one knows if there is a rezzing penalty?
There is no penalty. The only penalty is if you don't collect their helmets when they die during battle, i.e. you lose the unit totally.

Ok great thanks I will continue on my journey then!

damn this game delivers! i was up all night "just one more hunt"

i love the Monster Hunter influence when it comes to items and equipping your minions. it's a lot more addictive than i figured it would be.

that defense chant is a life-saver, i just charge that into a fever and let my guys plow through the level. It still gets really really challenging, that worm took a few tries and i can't pass those first two dinos when they're level 3.

i did find the game much easier when hooked up to some speakers and tv

Edit: i finished the demo, but don't remember getting the spear of protection... where, how?

Maybe there is a way to do it later on in the game but what I wish are included in the game:

1. The ability to retreat if necessary.
2. The ability to keep building more troops and set them aside (instead of retiring them) if you don't want to use them.

I get excited just thinking of the many possibilities for the sequel. I hope this game sells well so we can get another game.

I sure had a ton of trouble with the Sand Worm the first couple times I fought him, but with a bit more damage he was cake.

I wish that the combination of items would indicate what patapon you get before you cofirm (at least if you had made one before). I forget, and don't want to have to rely on a FAQ to get the ones I want.

That's not in the game? Bah! :(

That's one of the things I didn't like about the demo. It's fine taking that risk once, but to keep having to risk it (Or as you say, using a FAQ) sucks a little.

Still looking forward to this turning up though. Glad I got the order in with Tronix early as it seems like there might be stock problems.

What I always do after a match is to go into pre-battle and count my units....there are certain bosses that totally destroy/devour your unit (leaving nothing to collect) if their attack connects.

It is not QUITE as bad as it sounds, since the price of the unit kind of tells you what level it is, and the elements to make units get organized in order of quality (as far as I can tell, in your inventory. So making the BEST units should be obvious, but making some mid-level ones that have strengths and weaknesses is harder to tell :-/

Yeah, there is a move that removes units from the battlefield without leaving their cap. Nothing you can do in that case. You can keep repeating the boss, in the hope that you won't lose a unit, but often it is quicker to just rebuild that unit.

If you're not passed it yet:
You should concentrate on the windmill with long-range attackers - spear and bow dudes. Keep the wind favorable with the Wind Miracle, keep the big Zigotons at bay with your axe group, and make sure all the spears and arrows go to the windmill. It will endlessly spawn the big Zigotons so you're fucked if you don't destroy it fast. It is actually pretty easy with this strategy
.

The rescue
Meden
mission is pretty hard too :/ Desert time again!

I was put off by the
big Zigotons
. I'll try to shift my focus on the
mill
this time. Tnx!

I'm stuck in the dessert. I can't do the rain miracle. Your supposed to get them into fever mode and then hit x.xx.xx but I can't get it.

I got this really easily, but i don't know why exactly as normally I lose concentration at fever mode. Have you been able to do the tree's most complex rhythm? It is almost the same.

I got what I was doing wrong. I had to get the rhythm on the first part. Then the second part I wasn't hitting the right buttons because it doesn't show the button icons just the sounds. Once I figured out to match the sounds to the buttons I did it. The rain doesn't last very long though. :(

Took me five tries for me to realize that I was hitting "DON" when I should have been hitting "PON" during the rain chant. The problem is there's no indication that you screwed up until it's over. Finally got it but damn that rain *is* short! I need more axe dudes to speed things up when raining.

Yeah, the miracle intro-beat really isn't so hard. And once you are past the Don DoDon DoDon part to start it, you are allowed to make mistakes. I guess the better you do it, the longer the miracle lasts.

Also, it's possible to go into 'early' Fever mode by drumming really good. Pay attention to the number pulsating when you build combos, I think the better you are in sync with that, the earlier you have a succesfull Fever. If I really pay attention, the Patapons can go into fever after five or so combos.

Are the items that the tree drops for you based on your luck? Because I swear that I press the button correctly (the tree isn't complaining or anything like that) but sometimes all I got are leaves until the end when the tree decides to award me something (usually Sakura).

The minigames are where it's at.
I have the tree, the lady plant and the mountain so far.

I don't like the kaching system... I have tons of supplies to make badass patapons but they're too expensive. :(

I wish this game came out in the 90s and had a saturday morning cartoon to go along with it.
The patapons are just so cute!

I think so. I had him drop one of those red rocks once, but usually it's normal or blossom tree branches.
