Official Patapon (PSP) LOVE Thread

How do you get rid of soldiers so you can make better ones. I have two red rocks that would make some good soldiers right?

Only played a handful of missions last night, but this game is awesome. I've been hearing the beats in my head all day long... and I couldn't believe it was only $20! I think I would've missed this (initially) had it not been for GAF.

In the formation screen (you have to drill deeper into groups - ie. archers) press "Select" to get rid of a soldier you don't want.

The screen were you select your set-up for the next battle. You can select a single Patapon when you give them weapons/armor etc. With select you can delete individual units.

Edit: ^ What he said.

All I can say is; somethings are worth selling in order to buy one.

I'm getting owned by the castle
with the eyeballs and the little crab miniboss, I've poured so much damage into both of them and even though he says something about his Lord getting weak I can never take the dude or the building down.

I hope it isnt because I screwed up the Star stage, it was finally not raining there after taking down the spider helmet miniboss so I went through it and didnt realise the star hadnt fully come onscreen when I finished the stage and now it's raining again waaah
.

I picked this game up partially because I was shocked that my best buy even had the game, and I'm not sure I exactly "get it" I mean it's a cool idea and all but so far I only have two comand so far, and winning the mission seems almost as much about luck as it xdoes skill, maybe I'm missing something but meh...

IS anyone else having issues performing this miracle, I go to the blue screen. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but it never rains, and have to start again.

No probs here. Rain miracle equipped, fever up, dom domdom domdom and then the rythmn mini-game with O for Pons and [] for the Pata bit.

I totally understand the "one more level" thing. You just can't put it down.

Though I think they ramped up the difficulty on the dinosaur boss from the demo, because he owned my face until I did some work on the side. Though it took me awhile to realize that three of my ax-carrying men that I originally had used in the demo had died without me collecting their helmets.

I have had this game since yesterday afternoon and my timer is at 8:42. o.O

I can't get the rain spell.. I can't even get out of the "learn to do it" thing! :( pleez halp

It was basically mentioned earlier, but:

Get your Fever up (Defend works great), hit the X button like so, X.XX.XX and that will take you to the rain juju screen. At that screen follow the prompts mimicing with the Pon button (and Pata at one occurence) and boom... rain.

This is insane. I'm already clocking 6 hours and I haven't even reach the dessert stage. But I really, really want to be prepared for whatever is coming on that stage. Judging from what everyone is saying, that stage is one hell of tough SOB.

It never hurts to get more guys, but I beat the desert on my first try without really leveling up. As long as you know the concept of what you are doing, it is pretty easy.

This game is awesome! I love the way it looks and I love the move and attack mechanic. How many level are there?

I'm not sure if this is correct but I remember reading that it's either 20 or 30. But you'll go back over and over to some stages just to improve your Patapon or gain some objects.

Gah, just came home with my copy and I find out that my PSPs battery is dead. Gotta wait a little while longer to play. :(

Hey, that's what I've been doing except that since I connected the adapter to PC (using one of those adapter to USB cable), I nearly hurt my back. Yeah, I'm that obsessed with this game. I was actually surfing this site while playing.

Ok so I just read a faq on this game and apparently your patapons can only move a few feet away from your "base" character, I wasn't aware of this, playing it with this in mind makes it a lot less frustrating.

Me before: Why the f*ck isn't my pattapon attacking

Me after: Patta Patta Patta Pon Die skum...

Oh btw is their any way to replay levels that aren't the 1st hunt.

As you advance there'll be boss levels which you can replay to gain items. Beware that they get stronger as you kill them over and over again. Right now the 3rd iteration of the first Dino spanks my bottom.

I'm tempted to, but the only available outlet right now is in the hallway. And as much as I want to, I don't feel like playing while sitting on cold tiles.:D

Give it time, you're barely into the game. There's a lot more strategy to it, that much becomes apparent at the first real boss level.

I believe 30's the word.

got a psp for this weekend to play, freaking awesome so far, couple things though.

I filled up all my spots for the spear patapon, but I just realized I can use rarer ingredients to make them.. can I delete one of the ones i already made, or overwrite it? I want to see what I get! (edit: read up, gotcha, thanks)

also, is there a way to transfer save games from memory cards to other memory cards? I'm borrowing one atm, but i plan on buying my own in a week or two.

I'm so excited to see the rest of the game. freaking cool as hell

I think you can just connect the PSP to PC and copy the save file to your PC and then put a new memory card and transfer the save file back to your memory card.

That damn desert worm thing is pissing me off. I've got 3 archers, I'm full on spear throwers and axe guys too. Something I'm doing wrong?

I think I almost had a full crew (axe, spear, arrow) when I took him out. I'm assuming you some ok equipment and some non-base units, right? Anyways, for me (like I said in a previous post), I simply had to overpower him...if you do enough damage you'll interrupt his attacks. Don't loose Fever, and CHAKA CHAKA PATA PON helps not only defend against his fire attack but also gives your units an excuse to pull pack (albeit, kinda slowly).

resource gathering is really a pain to do. not because they're hard, but because each mission only give you very little ka-ching. and the animal keep running away is pissing me off. I've been hunting on the first level because the animal there is weak enough I can kill all of them giving me about 150-200 ka-ching per mission, while making a good soldier take from 400 up to 800. is there any tips to get money faster? probably tips on hunting level 2 or 3. I almost never kill the enemies there because they keep getting away

This first desert level is bullcrap. You fuck up one time during fever mode and your dead. I wanna like this game but it keeps pissing me off.

Practice helps. Not getting frustrated helps. Learning what you did wrong to end Fever, helps.

already did that. anyway, one question, when hunting, do you approach them close enough before attacking, or wait from far when the enemy still asleep, I mainly talk about that stupid bird/ostrich thing. the one that run away very fast

I usually keep away far enough to keep them sleeping. Then go into Fever mode and start attacking. If you only use Spear and Bow Patapon, the birdies usually go down during the first or second salvo. Also, you get a second chance since they usually will sit down again after a short run.

So I just did the dessert stage. It was a total pain. I eventually got a grasp of it though.

A few things to remember:
1. Don't panic.
2. Make sure you go into fever and don't lose it.
3. Do rain miracle before the previous rain miracle ends (I had to do this 3 times).

I lost a lot of Patapons on my 1st and 2nd tries (although most of them could be reincarnated). I wasn't happy though so I repeated the stage again and on my 3rd try, I managed to get through it without losing one Patapon.

On that note, apparently in the US version of the game, kiseki (miracle) is referred to as 'Juju'. I thought that's kind of weird.

Does anyone have a guide to the different rarepons, what level of material is required for them, and what their strengths are?

For the first few ones I didn't mind just playing around, but as the materials are getting rarer, I'd prefer to know what I'm getting in to before making another hedgehog.

Those are good tips Replicant. Did you get the snail? That bastard got away from me even after wailing on him over and over.

No. That bastard got away from me as well. :( And since I'm too busy trying to stay alive, I couldn't figure out how to kill it.

I just realize my mistake thanks to this.

Thank you one hour of hell last night trying to make it freakin' rain.

1. Come back to the stage; you won't have to deal with the rain issue.
2. Murder the snail.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Please excuse the meme. I'm tired.

Anyway, I got to the castle, with the catapult and still got owned :lol Can't wait to try again. This game gets better and better. Much more strategic and challenging without feeling overwhelming. I love seeing a full screen of arrows and spears during fever mode.

I was so frustrated on the escort mission, as the first time I played it like 5 weapons (2 fire spears, 2 fire bows, a hammer, and a lance) and a helm dropped, but i died at the end. After trying like 6 more times to beat it, I finally did, but only got like 2 weapons and a helm. The drops are EXTREMELY random (some of the tries NO weapons dropped), and you can't go back to the battle stages when you beat them (only hunting and bosses). I'm sure people with gaming-OCD will keep canceling out the missions until the get the best set of items they can, but I feel an obligation to just keep plugging along. I'm hoping the bosses drop good stuff once they get high enough level (I'm up to level 5 on the first boss).
