WordAssassin said:Ok, so, this comes out now? That's awesome because I was planning to finally dive into the 360 world for my birthday next month.
HOWEVER!
I'm still insanely cautious about the failure rate on 360s. Will these Arcade units be "safe" or is basically every SKU a red-ringed gamble?

After months of dilly-dallying Microsoft has whisked the wraps off its new hard-disk-deprived Arcade Xbox 360 bundle, which will go on sale this Friday for GBP 199.99 (EUR 289).
I was just about to post that article. I hope it gets a good push on TV, but I doubt it.Sean said:Interesting bit from an interview with Next-Gen...
I'll believe it when I see it, but this would be a very smart move.
That's quite the turnaround from the Core.Of course, Microsofts holiday strategy doesnt lie solely on the new Arcade SKU. Greenberg wouldnt disclose what percentage of total Xbox hardware shipments would be the Arcade pack, but expects that the new model will perform at or above the level of the $450 Xbox 360 Elite, possibly second to the $350 20GB Xbox 360.
That is definitely the plan. It won't have much of an adverse affect on the Wii but for families with a dad or teen that also wants some hardcore shooter or sports gaming, this makes the 360 a good dual-purpose machine . . . family & hardcroe gaming.Sean said:It seems like Microsoft is starting to get really serious about attracting the younger demographic.
- Disney/Nickelodeon on Video Marketplace
- Spongebob & Shrek on XBLA
- Viva Pinata Party Animals with the Burger King happy meal tie-in
- Scene It
- Cheap SKU with 5 casual pack-in games
- creation of the "Platinum Family Hits" line (Cars, Kameo, Lego SW2, Table Tennis, Sonic, Viva, etc)
Will be interesting to see if this helps them out or what.

It's interesting that a system not launched with a 'next-gen' update such as HDMI, gets it later at a low cost.
I'm going to get this one.
Total 360's in my home.... 3.
Total bought.... 4.
Total buried.... 1.

Not talking about the games. Talking about the image they're trying to portray in the commercial. With the song, women and older people playing, etc.Nexus Zero said:Yeah three very casual games there.

Lo-Volt said:It's a pretty good idea to have some good and accessible XBLA games on the SKU, so it gets points for that. Any added content is better than what the skele-Core had to offer. Shame still about the lack of an HDD, but I'd imagine having good Arcade games is a pretty good way to improve the out-of-box experience nevertheless.
Ok, awesome. November will be X360 month for me.Agent Icebeezy said:You should be fine. I'm going to get another 360, (giving my current one to my daughters) and the stability of them have improved. I've check out a few friends that have recently purchased their's. Jump in, you'll enjoy it.

Since I'm a n00b I have one other question though - will it only work with the X360 HDD, or can I plug in any USB HDD to it?
Interesting to see Bioshock mixed with two first-party titles.SPEA said:Microsoft is definitely trying to expand their audience this holiday. Take a look at their new commercial airing in the US now. LINK
The Core was ridiculous. The value relative to the Premium was terrible; I think they addressed this with the Arcade pretty well.gregor7777 said:Makes the Core system look ridiculous.
WordAssassin said:Aww, that's lame. If the HDD is $100 I might as well just get the Premium then, yeah? Or will the memory card hold a decent amount of game saves? (I'm not planning on downloading any demos or TV shows or anything)
Can we please change Phoenix Downs title to "Console War Masochist".Phoenix Down said:I just asked my girl to get this SKU for me for christmas.. i allready have a HDD from my last xbox... Last Effect and Uncharted are my 2 holidays games to play![]()

Arcade SKU customers won't be interested in the the video marketplace and XBLA titles, if they really not going online (and the Arcade sure isn't designed to out of the box), but the rest of the lineup could drive some appeal. I still think this will be pretty successful this fall, independent of impacting the Wii.
Out of the box being the operative term there. Of course you can take the Arcade system online, but there's no headset, ethernet cable, or HDD (if you want to do more than a couple of downloads) - out of the box. You can just connect and go online, true, but that's not what the box is aimed at in the same way the Premium is. Note I wasn't saying it's a bad thing, just that it's tailored to those not planning to do much if anything online. I think there's a sizable market there.gregor7777 said:What makes you say that? Seems it would be a perfect box to get online with Halo or CoD4.

I wonder if they are going to just push the Arcade and Elite this holiday, hitting both demographics.
Heh - I'm the opposite. I rarely game online, but I do lots of demos, XBLA, videos and chat with people while playing. But then, the Arcade system is not for me.gregor7777 said:I'd agree. I rarely download demos (it is cool though) and I never download movies or TV shows, yet I spend 80% of my gaming time online.
