Atari say our age is ending. One might offer the crude riposte, 'you first, motherfuckers'.

AKA financially motivated
for me to really enjoy & participate in.
That's what I've been looking forward to with PoP too. The only gaming I do most of the time is MP shooters, so it'll be a nice change of pace to just get a good 10-15 hours of SP gaming in with this.

I only got the 360 version. So far after 2 hours the only slowdowns/noticeable tearing I've seen was during cutscenes. Gameplay was very smooth.
Good to know, thank you. I pre-ordered the 360 version today based on this and the 360 footage they had recently on gamespot. Looked very smooth there.

I've watched some footage (cover disc of a magazine you don't know) and can't help but notice there's massive full-screen motion trailing going on all the time. If you don't know what I mean, it's motion blur's ugly twin brother. Same idea but with all semblance to physical reality erased.

It makes me sick, GAF, for real. Please tell me that this effect isn't in the full game. Please tell me it's a borked capture or a framerate conversion artefact. Please.

There isn't. I don't know why you are seeing that. Probably the footage.

GAF should I get the UK version for the superior boxart and extra bonuses? It would actually come out cheaper for me. I have an American PS3, and I'm just a tiny bit worried that I might have difficulty with DLC or with finding and downloading compatible save files (I like to download a 100% complete save to check out all unlockables after beating the game once on my own, since I know for certain that I'll never grind through it to get everything).

Anyone with similar previous experiences with importing Ubisoft games for PS3?

I thought US PS3's couldn't play UK games?

PS3 games are region free. All of them, anywhere, invariably, all the time.

You probably heard something about PS2 games being played on BC PS3s. The region locking of PS2 stuff remains in full force.

I was thinking about the Blu-ray region encoding. :lol

Damn...now I don't know what to get. Will the Prince and Farah codes work on a US PSN account if I get the UK CE? I want that CE so damn bad. :(

I'm a tad less than half way done with the game, and I'm really loving it. Mind you though, I'm the type of gamer who'd rather watch the beautiful scenery than be challenged and stressed out all the time.

Same here. I didn't find the Sands of Time to be all that challenging, with the time rewind able to instantly erase any platforming mistakes I made without even having to go back to my last save (I saved all the time...filled up every slot :lol). Now that the Sands are no longer a gameplay mechanic, the Elika save system seems like a fair trade off.

Good to hear! I'm that type of "gamer" as well :) Is there french language in your version? Just curious because we get german voices here (judging from some videos "our" prince sounds way better, imo :P ).

Same here, but god I HATE the fighting system.
Can you go in more detail?
Judging from the video it seems like a back and forth (parry and attack) fighting system. Is that the reason you hate it?

Has it got as many annoying cutscenes as Assassin's Creed?

I read something somewhere where they said the game is constantly stopping for people to speak. That shit pisses me off no end.

Ubi PoP has always had shite combat. The only up tick to the third PoP that hit last gen is that they added stealth kills, which ended lots and lots of combat situations almost instantly, and relatively easily.

I long ago realized that if I wanted to enjoy Ubi's Prince of Persia, I'd have to stomach combat like a bitter pill. I've largely been able to, thankfully.

Glad to hear that, I'm not the biggest fan of difficult games (loved Fable II, which is very easy).

Probably will be picking this up, surprised there hasn't been much interest in this thread.

Must cutscenes are to be triggered by you by pressed the left button (icon flashes on the screen). So if you don't want to see some pointless (if you don't care about the characters) dialog, just don't press the button. Important cutscenes are mandatory of course.

call it tentative optimism :p when it's good, it's real good. when it's not so good, it's incredibly disappointing. nevertheless i have my money set aside and ears to the ground for impressions that make it sound like a winner

I find it very tedious. It's always the same pattern, just like a boss battle but for every enemy in the game.
It goes like this: the enemy is spamming you, so block. Do a quick release of the block trigger and press again right before the enemy hits you in order to create a counter window. Now you can either hit him with your sword, grab him or unleash Elika. The Prince will execute whatever move you chose and when it's done, the enemy starts spamming you again. Repeat the pattern until he dies.

It requires no skill at all and lasts forever, I totally hate it. And later in the game you get enemies that have a corruption shield, so if you want your counter moves to be effective, first you need to do a grab counter move and THEN the usual pattern. And of course the corruption shield returns after 15 seconds...

you know what, other than the "lasts forever" part, that sounds awesome :P but i guess we'll see soon enough. thanks for describing it in such detail though

Well, so much for Soul Calibur style combat. :/

Maybe it won't be that bad; I actually kind of enjoyed combat in Warrior Within and Two Thrones.

Sounds great, though Snoopers impressions on the combat don't sound that hot..anyway I'm
still getting the game, Sands of Time's combat was also nothing special (well in some ways it was annoying to be honest) but overall was an awesome experience.

BTW glad to hear the 360 version's frame-rate is silky smooth. :)

the lack of a really good single player game is what keeps me from gaming as much as i used to. multi is fun when you got friends who play also but when none of your older friends game it becomes a drag pretty quick.

Crap. I found the combat in Sands of Time to be crap and the combat in Assassin's Creed to be crap as well. Crap.

Bad dialog and crap combat...yet I'm still dropping $59.99. The game looks too darn beautiful.

1) It's nothing like Sands of Time combat

2) I love AC's combat :p

3) The game is totally worth its price. Beautiful journey, if not very challenging.

That's good because the largest amount of sales from the forum fanbase comes from the PC users, who are older 22+ to 40s or more....

So is the combat a love or hate affair? Some impressions are rather positive but there are still people who dont seem much into it. I really can't wait for more reviews :) However, the game is preordered and nothing will change that :P

Anyway it can't be a deal breaker.

Damn, I see where you're coming from. Thanks for the detailed combat impressions snoopers. I'm glad to read that you're still recommending it at full price. Now, how is the platforming? I've always loved the PoP series for their platforming.

How much % of the game is combat? I seem to be remember reading something about 20% combat and 80%platform puzzle (but very easy puzzles). Is that true?

20-30, yeah.
In my case I spend a lot of time trying to get all the light seeds, so I'd say fights are more like 5 to 10% of my game time. And that's fine by me, personally good or not I'd rather have no fights at all and just explore the incredibly beautiful levels.
Btw, except when you teleport to a cleaned place or the temple, there are *no* loadings in this game. Except for one pretty strange bug with Elika not moving to a lever (she justs "teleports" there after a few seconds though), I find this game to be very polished. Unlike most recent Ubisoft games if I can add ;)

I belong to the same category :) Very much looking forward to this. Fingers crossed that the PS3 version is "on a par or just slightly behind the 360 version" (since i don't own both systems).

How are all you people playing it? Are there really so many reviewers with release builds here? It's not even out for CONSOLES for a couple more days. :(

PC VERSIONNNNN ARGH

The PC version has been "released" already? Damn usually it's on consoles first. I was wondering why so many people were already playing the game too...
Edit: Hmmm, doesn't look like it's been released on PC either.

Is there any difference between the PC and console version besides achievements/trophies, resolution, and controls?
Why would there be any difference?
Maybe unlockables like the Prince/Farah costumes aren't there, I don't know, but otherwise the game itself shouldn't be any different at all.

PC versions of multiplatform games often have better graphics than their console brethren. That's basically what I wanted to know. If there were any graphical differences other than resolution.

Sounds like Okami. Win! :D

Quick question for you guys: Is light-seed collecting in PoP even half as addicting as orb collecting in Crackdown? Collecting flags in AC was a waste of time IMO.

I was saying argh because people are playing the game before the console release date, and then tons of people will play the console version, and then I'll finally get to play the PC version. :P

I used to care about that in the past, and in fact got the PC version of Sands of Time for that very reason. But today the difference is between playing it on a 42" Plasma TV laying on a couch vs. on a 17" computer monitor = Console version hands down.
