Official Shigeru Miyamoto Keynote @ GDC Thread

If Nintendo bothered to show Super Paper Mario, then I have no doubt in my mind anymore that Mario Galaxy WILL be shown tomorrow as well.

Then again, I dunno if Nintendo would wanna have it overshadow SPM...

Well, you have to wonder how they can make that fit in a keynote that's supposed to be for game developers. Wii Health or something similar is much more likely than a 3D platformer.

Well, remember. Nintendo revealed the second trailer for Zelda: TP at GDC 2005. And the DS Zelda last year.

I guess, I forgot about the second TP trailer. Obviously I'd love a Mario Galaxy trailer, I just don't expect much focus to be on it.

Oh, I don't expect the whole show to be about it (though, if it's shown, it'll be pretty much the highlight, regardless what else is shown), but I would expect it to be displayed as a finale to the presentation (at least, I hope, would be quite poetic).

Galaxy can be shown/discussed because it has already been announced right?

Once again, Nintendo is allowed to announce new games! They are just not allowed to speculate about the future, tease, hype or whatnot...

Competitors may steal Miyamoto's soul if he shows it them too early.

QFT, Sony is especially bad at this, after 2 generations of stealing ideas from Nintendo, i can understand why Nintendo wants to keep as much of its information close to the chest as possible.

I think the whole strategy of Nintendo this time round is to hide everything they can, then release Megatons so close to the actual release that Sony just can't react in time. This is the main reason why Nintendo has been so stingy with Information during this whole generation.

Shit, that does sound like a great idea for a game to really use the remote well. I don't know if this was a joke about the kites, but Miyamoto probably would come up with this. Maybe he'll finally do Marionette?

Nah.
Well, yeah, it was a joke.. but my "intuition" made me guess this was his new hobby/game.... which means it will never happen. :(

I LOLed... The PS2 and PS3 are exactly like the Gamecube and the "two Gamecubes duct taped together." And of course the PSP is exactly like the DS.

Don't get me wrong, I'v loved Nintendo's games for well over a decade now. Nintendo's console design however, is something they never have to worry about others stealing.

Maybe so, but Motion Sensing in the SIXAXIS? the new Home system and avatar creation (Mii's say hello), Analog sticks (N64), Rumble (N64), the actual design of the PS1/PS2/Ps3 controllers (looks like a SNES pad with handles).

I wouldn't be surprised if the PSP2 has a touch screen and launches with a series of Brain Training games.

These are just some examples, however i don't wanna derail this thread, so carry on.

Its less than a day and the duct tape line has been overused and burnt down imo.

Agreed.

The PSP was created with the possible successor to the GBA in mind. Using Nintendo's handheld philosophy of building a portable machine that was powerful enough to house last-gen quality games. Sony didn't anticipate the DS. Then again, neither did anyone else but Nintendo.

Man, that's been Sony's gameplan since the beginning: Copy the Big N but just market their style better to cater to the mainstream audience.

You Sony fans better hope the Big N never gets out of business, or they'll be forced to copy Sega and no one wants that.

Anyway, looking forward to Shiggy's speech. Should be the most important gaming-related speech for this generation.

This thread is going to be way to long before the keynote. Maybe lock until tomorrow? also if you want to troll a wii thread pick a different one please.

I'm not sure if you're intentionally trolling or you really believe what you just wrote. Nintendo wasn't the first company to make a console, controller, motion sensing, analog joysticks, and everything else. If you like though, we can just assume that Nintendo invented everything video game related. Does that mean anything in 2007?

In any case, I feel it's important to note that Elvis impersonators never sold more records than Elvis. Any ideas copied from Nintendo would not be such a threat to Nintendo lovers if Sony wasn't improving on them. As a gamer, all I really care about is the improving part.

There's a difference between inventing and making something popular, but you could make the point that Nintendo made most technologies people acuse Sony of "stealing" popular and commonplace in modern gaming. I think it's doing Home a disservice to say it's even slightly copying the Miis though; it's clearly been in development for a long time and is totally in line with stuff Sony has been saying for years.

Don't tease me.

If I get a Mario Galaxy demo I will have a heart attack before it finishes downloading

Smiles and Cries said:
oh don't say things like that... we will never get a demo :D

I think demos probably cross the fine line in Nintendo's make-as-much-money-as-possible plan. But man, imagine if they could get it down to 100 or so MB, and let you run it off an SD card...

I remember just like motion sensing in their controllers, wheres the patent again, development in years lol :D.

Orly? 10,000 iterations of game boy, each successive best-sellers say hi.

Geesh... from the reaction to the little truth I posted, and the clear offense taken, you would think I was in a thread of Nintendo fanboys or something.............

Totally as an aside, but what's is Nintendo's fascination with Thursday? They seem to schedule a disproportionate number of conferences/speeches on Thursday.
