Official Shigeru Miyamoto Keynote @ GDC Thread

Only 15 more minutes. I'm looking forward to some more info on SMG and hopefully some surprises popping up on the shop channel during the speech.

Glad to see the trolls know when to leave a thread alone. Can't wait to hear what he has to say about gaming. Him, Iwata, and Carmack are always my favorite speakers.

EDIT: You guys should really stop expecting any new announcements. If we're lucky we get to see more SMG or something of that vain.

10:07 a.m.: We're sitting at the Miyamoto keynote. We count five screens of 9 Wii logos apiece, totaling 45 Wii logos. That's a lot of Wii! The podium glows blue with a white Nintendo logo and the background shows an effervescent blue cloud that fits accordingly to the inoffensive electronic beats.

10:08 a.m.: More Daft Punk, just like yesterday's Sony keynote -- only this time, it's the original. Perhaps it's a subtle allusion how Nintendo and Sony view each other -- old-school originality vs. technically-proficient remixing. Yes, we went there.

I'm ready for it, but they've got their work cut out if they want to top Little Big Planet. Someone post the look on Reggies face @ the Sony conference. I think he knows he has to kick some asses and take some names or else, he's roadkill.

The updates begin!

Edit: wrong blog! ACK!

anyone wanna guess whether or not Miyamoto at least mentions the next main Zelda game for Wii ?

I don't expect to actually SEE the new Wii Zelda until 2008, or be playing it until late 2009.

I'd just KINDA MAYBE expect, at most, a few words on it, like "Wii're going to completely change the way you think about and play Link with the next Zelda game, please be patient" :lol

Me too. Wish there was a website that's compatable with opera so we could watch the speech.

my last minute predictions

- miyamoto says nothing about new games
- miyamoto talks about games he once developed
- miyaomoto doesnt even give hints

Looks like the keynote could be starting late. There are still a few people filling into the hall. It's all giant screens with the Nintendo logo and high tempo repetitive beats.

"10:30
That just made my day. One of the Destructoid helmet guys got turned away from prime seating. E3 is dead, guys.

Mark: ooons ooons ooons ooons

Shane: Is that Phil Harrison? Nah, just some other smug, bald guy."

18:33.33 -

There seem to be a few fanboys around, including one journalist dressed in a Mario hat and dungarees. No moustache though. Shame.

Ha!

A man in a suit with a robot head on is standing in front of the stage, bowing and waving to people. Makes a change from Sony's giant footballs yesterday.

"I just spoke with Reggie and asked him if there were going to be any fireworks during the keynote. He said "a couple." He's the second one to tell me that today's keynote isn't going to be quite as bland as people initially expected. Hit the jump to follow along."

AMN:

10:32 AM PST - It’s 10:30 now, and the keynote still hasn’t started. The press are sitting around mingling, waiting for Miyamoto to take the stage. We wonder if he’ll have his sword and shield in hand. There’s trance music pumpin’, and people are continuing to file into the room.

We're running a few minutes past the posted start time, because the line for this keynote stretched completely around the Moscone center...anyone who knows how big San Francisco blocks are knows this is an impressive feat. Also, Bloc Party is the opening act.

Shane just noticed a poor GDC volunteer having to tell people that they can't save seats. "Sometimes you just have to grab it and be a dick." AGREED.

From Kotaku....anticipation steadily increasing...
