Official Sony's Gamers Day Thread - It has Begun

I just remember this comment from the SonyCowBoy which is kinda of amusing now that it's official:

"Believe me, if Sony doesn't come with component cables on the $599 version, I'll pick up a pitchfork right along with you and bitchslap the Sony name all over GAF for it. And then I'll go buy a PS3 anyway on launch day. It will be a major hissy fit."

**** YOU SONY!!!! WHYYYYYYYY??!?!? IT"S LIKE AN EXTRA $1!!!

MICROSOFT IS NICER THAN SONY! THEY ALSO GAVE A REMOTE AT LAUNCH TOO!! FOR FREE!!

THIS IS SUCH BULLSHIT!!!!

IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. HOW CAN THE BE SO ****ING STUPID?

First Party titles = too expensive
Controllers = too expensive
No Component cables or Blu-Ray remote when pushing TrueHD and giving away a Blu-Ray movie = freaking retarded.

BTW, in that thread, someone reminded me I could use the component cables I already own, and I'll be using HDMI anyway, so it's not about me

Luckily the games look great, but adopting Microsoft's pricing tactics is assinine. I hope Microsoft drops the accessory prices by $10 across the board, but it's mostly a hidden cost to consumers who only look at the console prices (which are high anyway)

The thread has been remarkably civil. I don't recognize this place!

How.

When doing a fact sheet were you are trying to do a feature by feature comparison (were applicable) versus cost ...

... how is that fundamentally wrong?

JUST FREAKING CRAZY
I finally caught up just as it ends.
Lair PICS looking great
MotorStorom Demo is just about the best new
I love blast factor so far and all the DC games are nice

I could not be happier right now that I camped for a preorder, starting eating twigs to save money, and put in ungodly amounts of overtime this past month(60 hours a week!) but Its all in the past, I paided off my ps3 today, and I'm sizing up launch games.
SPLOOOOOGE!!!!

"Requires users to buy"
Using the tard 360 as the base as opposed to the premium
Implying Wii online will cost a fee after 6 months

It's very 'creative'

Could rape jokes be put in the ToS as justification for a ban? Joke is getting old. I am not PC but shit, it's pretty brainless, disrespectful and maybe worst of all, pretty damn callous.

Most people on the internet are scumbag low class losers so instead of coming up with creative and funny ways to categorize or describe something, they resort to the lowest common demoninator trendy catch phrases(that I personally have only seen online).

Many on here also make light of peoples' deaths too with "funny"(read: uninpsired and unimaginative) pictures or "jokes" and then qualify their statements as if they feel bad about them(no one forced them to post the idiocy).

The "RAPE TIME", etc... bullshit is not only offensive to some but it's just flat out stupid and immature.

Between this conference showing (UI, online, etc) ... and the Linux distro ...

GOD IN A BOX.

No matter how high the price gets, I just don't think I'll be able to part with my PS3 come launch time.

Whatever man. I'm not getting into this. The PS3 has enough free software and hardware connectivity to outclass the 360 on paper, without Sony needing to tell 360 owners what they need.

It appears that NBA 2K7 now supports 1080p while still running at 60 fps. Poor NBA 07, that shiny "Full 1080p" logo isn't so special anymore :lol

PS3 owners who play NBA 2K7 aren't going to have much to complain about, as the game is running at 60 frames per second at both 720p and 1080p, according to developers.
I'm not sure if he means upscaling or what, kinda a weird statement to say both resolutions.

i guess whether you get the blue ray for "free" or you are paying something that sony wants to push to sell movies and dont really need, depends on who is spinning it...

Engadget:

HOLY SHIT...Sony are obviously spinning, but they are being practical in the comparison....what they should really do is compare the price of a Premium 360 (w/ hdd and wireless controller included), a year subscription of gold (because the whole point of online is MULTIPLAYER), and an HDDVD player....because one of the perks of the PS3 is movie watching and the benefits Bluray bring to gaming.

The real total will be:

$500 (standard PS3)

vs.

$650 (X360 premium, HDDVD attachment, 12 month subscription for LIVE GOLD)

That's a pretty apples to apples comparison.

If you don't think a next-gen disc medium will help make better games and just want the console for strictly gaming and not movies...then perhaps MS's offering is a better value proposition in that context.

Either way, Engadget is totally hate-biased towards Sony, as goes for most other internet media.

I agree it's creative, but this is payback for the infamous 360 vs ps3 spec comparison that was on the majornelson site just after e3 '05....:lol

Ooh, what was that?

I missed that one.

I'm sorry I even argued about the Engadget article.

If people really want to discuss its validity, let's do it in another thread.

There's been a pretty good atmoshpere in this thread (especially given its size and the amount of splooging) ...

I don't want to see it go down in flames

The best news to come out of this conference was the PSP steaming data from PS3. Sometime down the line..will I be able to play PS3 games on my PSP? like streaming them from PS3 like they streamed the trailer?

well, what the should do is seperate it into various categories - like "Standard gamer" , "Media center" but obviously sony want you to look at thier machine and see the cost benefit. I'm not particularly bothered by the comparison to the X360, but the box for the 'online' cost for the Wii is just FUD to the max.

Anyways, hats off to Sony - they've really used their extra 8 months to perfection - this gamers day really is showing that they've got their act in order and MS really should be sweating. there's still a distance to go in terms of delivery , but the PS3 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting machine.

most likely "TV anywhere" to the PSP - which would be awesome (i'm thinking XBMC around the house)

how about having the PS2 have a similar wireless connector so you can use your existing PS2s as media centers around the house rather than getting rid of them?

I suggest the best policy all round is not to take the internet too seriously!

mlb 07 for next year...
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/740/740590p1.html
October 19, 2006 - At Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3 event this morning, the company announced one of its few surprise games of the day: a next-gen version of its promising baseball game, MLB '07.

Formerly part of its 989 Sports series, SCE's MLB franchise has come way up in the ranks over the last few generations, with some quite decent PS2 releases and two very strong games on PSP. This is the second sports game on PS3 for SCEA after NBA '07, and while no details or media of MLB '07 were unveiled at the show, we'd guess that this one will strive for 1080p like the basketball game since Sony is so big on the resolution and its impact in sports games. We would also expect online play, since any multiplayer game without online in '07 is up for getting smacked with a bat.

Look for more about MLB '07 sometime next year.

It's funny. 12 months ago if you had asked me for Sony's strengths relative to the PS3, I would not have said software and services, or their online plan. I would have said third party support and premier first party.

But after losing exclusives and first party launch of NBA 07, Genji 2, & Untold Legends (Resistance is GOTY material) and then seeing how slick the XMB, Linux, & online plans for Sony are, it's almost a complete reversal.

The comparison with the Wii is just dumb because the target market is different, even though it may be overlapping. Wii holds its own value proposition.

The only player Sony should try to make an apples to apples comparison with is MS. Obviously they were spinning. But that's what they are trying to sell: what they view as the complete multimedia hub package. They are never going to state a comparison without mentioning the HD disc medium because that is part of their value propositon for the consumer. If the consumer doesn't want that than obviously the consumer will find the comparison not valid. But if they do, then Sony's comparison makes sense (but should really be $500 vs. $650).

Of course nobody needs or is required to buy a HD-DVD add-on, but they obviously mean to match the PS3 feature for feature you would need it.

I agree that it's a silly chart regardless, but just pointing that out. I don't think even Sony is implying that you can't play games or use a 360 without HD-DVD. They really should have compared to the 360 Premium pack though.

I am not going to comment after this but it's hard for some not to appear morally superior compared to most of the trash on here.

Just at least get some new material and a mind of your own. These "jokes" and phrases have been done ad nauseum. If they aren't funny the first or second time used, they surely aren't going to be the 6000th time.

Andy Milonakis seems witty/clever compared to a lot of you in comparison.
