Official Sony's Gamers Day Thread - It has Begun

Wollan said:
I like that you can get movie files from any source be that CDs or a plugged inn USB Drive or whatever else.

You can? I would imagine DVDR as well? That is just awesome if so....just awesome...

btw...where is the best source of info for all this info? I thought I had kept up with most of the threads but apparently not.

Did sony ever show anything about custom soundtracks?

I don't think so, but from what I read it'll be up to the developer whether or not the game has it. Motorstorm is the only one I know of that will have it.

Any clue if it's just custom soundtracks off the HDD, or if that extends to streaming off USB storage devices?

Are you sure about that? The only thing I've read on MotorStorm is that their in-game audio system definitely won't support custom soundtracks.

What a crash O_O

What's even funnier is if you keep watching that video, you'll see the motorcycle rider slide off the edge of the cliff. So if the initial hit by the truck didn't kill him the 1000 foot fall surely will. :lol

WHAT?

I thought Evolution talked about a feature where Motorstorm would play custom soundtracks, and it would add acoustic effects to simulate the sounds reflecting off the canyons.

Yep, they were planning that at E3, but the Edge preview notes that they're no longer featuring that. Maybe if the game has been delayed (I think it has?) they'll reconsider. It would be very cool to have your own music go through those filters they're implementing.

I'd guess its just the HDD. But i'm not sure anything's been confirmed on that. Here's the article that confirmed Motorstorm's custom soundtrack

Acknowledgement that games these days are dependent on more than just the quality of the gameplay comes in the addition of custom tracks in MotorStorm. Smith says you'll be able to import your own music, which will undergo post-processing on the fly, integrating it more fully into the game.

No, I wrote this all up a few weeks ago from the latest EDGE.

They specifically mention in a section called "Heavy Metal Noise Pollution":
Thanks to a bundle of digital sound effects that Evolution's calling Live-Fi, music in Motor Storm comes not from the speakers in your car (or wherever on a dirt bike you'd put them) but from an array of speakers somewhere in the valley, pumping both crowd and drivers with raucous, festive spirit. By adding measured amount of reverb and delay to the game's licensed soundtrack, it does much for the game's atmosphere, even if it's something of a common feature in most modern music players. Also, while the serrated riffs of Curve, Nirvana and Lunatic Calm are entirely suited, Live-Fi seems wasted without custom soundtrack support, which we're told doesn't feature. And there's us scrabbling for that copy of Badmotorfinger. Come on, Evolution, we know you're reading this.

No, looks like FI officially got pushed into 07.

2007 is going to be an amazing year for racing game fans on the PS3

Formula One
Motorstorm
GTHD
Burnout 5
Sega Rally REVO
Colin McRae DIRT
Wangan Midnight

Someone should start thinking about creating an official Resistance thread (with some nice photoshop work). Also, we need to start a demo availability thread when it launches.

Excited? Noo..

I think the main problem people had was that it just doesn't move fast enough.

I think the game looks really good, but if it was just a bit faster and there was more sense of speed, it might be better...

RR7 screens. Looking very good, and online race for 4 players in the same machine ? O.o

No. That's just four people playing online on their respective systems. That image is a composition of what each one of them is seeing on their screens.

I think they can improve the sense of speed, I mean Motorstorm feels ALOT faster now.

Wow, hadn't seen these yet, be cool if the cows animated, that one thing missing from RR's is some like to the tracksie detail.

Don't know if it's new to anyone else, but it was new to - Gamespot's most recent video in that launch centre is an interview with Phil Harrison. Not very much new, but a couple of things:

The realtime playback of video in thumbnails is a 15 second segment of the video, that you can define (you can choose the startpoint for that preview in the video)

PSone downloadables are coming in the new year. There's been different timing mentioned in relation to that, but I'm guessing Phil Harrison knows, and I've heard new year now more than 'this year', so that's probably the correct time.

Oh, and he pimps Motorstorm again at the end. Says that if there's one thing you should look forward to re. PS3, it's that. He seems to have taken a shine to it :p

Speaking of demos, that "Major Nelson-like " ThreeSpeech SCE guy/group (http://www.threespeech.com/) mentioned in passing that there will be 4 - 5 demos available on day 1.

Soooo. MotorStorm, Resistance, and... mayed Ridge Racer or some EA game, or that Heavenly Sword demo we've heard a few hints regarding?

Wollan said:
So they have acquired an equivalent now?

They bring in independent journalists from various sites to contribute. There's probably a couple of 'in-house' guys too, though.

Don't want to stoke hopes, but DeanoC says they're still working hard on 'the demo'. Whatever for? ;) There's no really major press events for the remainder of the year, AFAIK..

I haven't really followed some of the smaller capabilities the PS3 has so maybe you guys could answer a couple of questions for me. If I read correctly the PS3 will be able to play MP4 video files right? Also, will I be able to plug say my iPod into the PS3 and then watch the MP4 videos I had on it on my TV?

Yeah DeanoC over @ b3d said that we will see the demo eventually, weather thats on kiosks or on the playstation store is unknown at this point. I hope we get it on day 1 to download, that would be nice. :)

The restart bug is fixed (touch wood it hasn't come back!) but now we are a polishing and improving. Don't worry the demo is coming, we just trying to make sure we don't disappoint, expectation are pretty high so was decided to spend a little longer on it.

:D

edit: beaten by gofreak :p

They need to get their act together and get a demo out, it's like they're giving themselves the damn franchise treatment before they've even proven themselves.

huh? I'm pretty sure they are working hard on the demo, and more importantly the final game. If what DeanoC said is true, it sounds like they are putting more work on the demo than they did previously to show off to a bigger number of people, hence it could mean a kiosk demo or downloadable demo on the ps3 itself, or both. :)

Does Kojima even do Demos?

Have we seen Demos of MG games before?
I think there was a mgs2 demo in ZOE, or maybe that was ZOE in mgs2. Anyways, anybody expecting a mgs4 demo on day 1 is kidding themselves. :p

Killzone looked awesome. Also, are PS1 games gonna be $15? they should be no more than $5 considering how old they are

BIZ: When Sony says that the "basic features" of online are free of charge, what exactly does that mean?

PD: Really everything related to online that you can do is free—accessing the Internet, web browsing, communication (chat, text messaging, video chat), and online gaming. It's all free. Where the commerce comes into play is when consumers have an interest in downloading additional gaming content, whether it's in the form of microtransactions—like in Resistance if you want additional maps, levels, or in Gran Turismo, cars, parts, etc.—or downloadable games. We talked about two types of downloadable games that we'll charge for. Some of those were developed specifically for PS3 like Blast Factor or David Jaffe's Criminal Crackdown... and all of those will be available under $15. The third bucket is PS1 content, and these are games that initially you'll download to your PS3, slide them over to your PSP and they'll be playable on the PSP. In the very near future, probably just after holiday, they'll be an upgrade to the system that will allow emulation for downloadable PS1 games to be playable on the PS3. And those games will be less than ten bucks, and many of them probably under $5.
