Super Bowl Draws Highest Overnight in 23 Years
After a season of record numbers for the NFL, the Super Bowl appears on pace to set yet another record.
The Saints' win over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV drew a 46.4/68 overnight rating on CBS, up 10% from Steelers/Cardinals on NBC last year (42.1/65), which finished as the most-viewed Super Bowl in history when final numbers were released (98.7 mil).
Saints/Colts was also up 4% from Giants/Patriots on FOX in '08 (44.7/66), and up 11% from Colts/Bears on CBS in '07 (42.0/63).
The 46.4 overnight rating is the highest for the Super Bowl since Giants/Broncos in '87 (47.8/68).
Saints/Colts peaked with a 50.6/71 from 9:30-9:45 PM.
New Orleans was the top market with a 56.3/82 -- actually down from a 63.2 for the Vikings/Saints NFC title game on FOX. In Indianapolis, the game drew a 54.2/80, off 3% from the Colts' win in Super Bowl XLI (55.5/79).
Washington, DC, was the #2 market (56.0/73), with Nashville coming in at #3 (54.4/73). Both markets finished ahead of Indianapolis.
