if they go through with making this a trilogy i hope they get a new director/writers

(that is assuming this is bad, i havent seen it)

To be fair, T4 went through a slew of edits/rewrites. The original screenplay was by the same dudes who wrote T3 (They also get the on-screen credit), but there was at least one edit done before Jonathon Nolan got his hands on it, who is the only writer signed on for the next 2 films (so far). Nolan is uncredited on Salvation, yet McG describes him as the "lead writer of the film." So take that for what you will. If I had to guess, Nolan probably saved this film from being a total shit-fest like 3.

I think I'm going to enjoy the movie based on the impressions posted here by gaffers.

I'm excited for it. Just saw McG on Carson Daly giving an interview. He came off pretty well. I have faith in him as a director. It's everything else I'm a little weary of.

But I have a feeling I'll enjoy it.

Against the backdrop of a war movie, I would have liked to have seen an 'interesting' love story, with connor trying to get a teenage boy to fall in love with his middle aged mother, while trying to nuke Skynet.

He has to still be the messiah figure to hold the destroyed remnant of mankind together, but tries to be a father figure to the boy who will be his father.

Alot of room there to have some fun with the characters and to explore some new territory, also a new spin on 'My Oedipus complex'.

the action scenes practically write themselves, its the character development that make a good story.

:lol

Is it wrong that I'm such a blind fan of this that I read some of the RT reviews and thought, "Nah, it can't be bad. They're just getting early controversial reviews out for views."

Even I realized that may be a little bit of a stretch.

So it looks like Warner is going have another bomb on their hands here. Makes me shifty on Ninja Assassin now
bomb? i think they will make a pretty penny on this movie whether me or you think it sucks or not

question for those that seen it:

how is the music?? especially the theme?
i thought T3 music was terrible and not enough terminator theme in it.

does this have more?

It kind of sucks knowing the fate of poor Kyle Reese when you watch the movie. We already know how his story ends.
Not necessarily. That was a timeline before everything got changed in T2 (and I guess T3, I barely remember that one). Who knows what will happen. Reese could get killed anytime.

but then wouldn't that make John not alive???

Captain N said:
Yeah, well he was alive because of the old future..so if the future changes and he dies..John would have never been born.
But he was already born so he'd be alive. Bale wouldn't magically disappear I would imagine.

What if they completely destroy skynet? Then there would be no robot to send back after Sarah Conner and no reason to send back Kyle. That would mess it up as well.

Although then when Skynet eventually took over again in the past there would be no John Connor to lead the resistance, or something...

A) Terminator Salvation is tracking to a haul of $80/90m over the five day opening. Even with the bad word of mouth it can easily do $150m in the US and perhaps double that abroad. Some may see that as a disappointment but that is by no means a bomb.

B) Both of the films you use as examples are not being distributed, but not financed, by Warner Bros. Halcyon are fully financing Terminator Salvation while Dark Castle and Legendary are financing Ninja Assassin. So even if they did bomb neither would really aversely effect WB.

C) When you say "....Warner is going have another bomb on their hands" what do you mean exactly? WB were the number one studio in terms of market share for the year up until last week when Paramount passed them on the back of Star Trek's gross. Just curious.

my guess is Watchman was a bomb

Only if they destroyed Skynet before they sent back the Terminator. In T1 (Or was it T2? I don't quite remember) they say sending the Terminator back to kill Sarah/John was a last ditch effort by Skynet. This presumes that the humans win the future war and completely destroy Skynet shortly after they send either Kyle Reese or the terminator from T2 back in time (Again, can't remember).

Under performing? Perhaps. Bomb? No.

Don't forget one of the biggest Bombs of All Time, Speed Racer.

Speed Racer likely lost Warners a ton of money. But 'one of the biggest Bombs of All Time'? Hardly. I'm sure Speed Racer will face stiff competition from WB's own home grown megatons of fail Pluto Nash (or Nash Pluto whatever they called it) or The Majestic.

*shudders*

Terminator fans better hope this movie is a success. Because if it isn't, you all know what'll happen, right?

Reboot.

Not really an incentive.

Between the choice of more shitty sequels and a shitty reboot I don't know what's worse.

Even Terminator 3 pulled 70%.

T4 is half that? This is embarrassing.

T3 isn't worthy of 70% and just shows how wrong RT can be sometimes. There are movies rated 100% that are junk and movies rated 20% that I love. I find as long as it stays above 20% then it has a chance of being good. Below that and it's just garbage.

It's simple really, you have bad taste in movies.

But on a more serious note, 36%? Fucking McG, this is what happens when you hire a director who has no vowels in his name.

Ah yes, a director's cut in which the director didn't work on at all. :P

It was his workprint. Though the difference between the workprint and a directors cut would have been using the dog instead of the ox (as described in Cinefex magazine) and probably retaining the far longer pause before the decision to fall into the molten pit (as you can watch on Youtube) as it is more Fincher's style to drag out a characters decision as long as he can get away with it.

Look on the bright side you guys: now that everyone is under the impression it's shit, when they go to see it and realize it's actually awesome it will make people like it all the more.

No I don't, who the hell follows meta-critics so much? It's a bit of advise that's it. You honestly thought T3 was a great movie?

T3 is a solid movie, certainly no disgrace to the series like TS seems to be.

Don't bash T3 to prop up what is clearly a disappointment.
