Agreed. The club scene is dated, but it takes place in 1984 and it looks like 1984! It is supposed to be dated. And I agree, the stop motion made the T-800 more creepy. Nothing in any of the films came close in "holy shit it is going to kill us" than the T1 T-800.

I feel the same way about T1 and T2 as I do about Alien and Aliens. Love both entries in each franchise but prefer the more horror-like first film over the more blockbuster second film.
Yeah if a killer robot came to kill someone back in 1984 it would look like it was one ripped from a Ray Harryhausen film. Really?

Stop motion is fake as HELL.

The only reason the Terminators weren't as scary after T1 was because a T-800 was one of the GOOD GUYS in T2.

So are your mum's tits but you don't see me complaining.

I thought the movie was pretty average. I liked it a lot more than T3, but i was still sorta let down. I thought Marcus was the best part of the movie, and much more interesting than Connor.

Throughout the movie, i got the sense that we were only getting half of the story. That there was much more that needed to be said. I guess thats because they cut out around 30 minutes of footage.

It's not a bad movie (NOWHERE near as bad as Wolverine), but i felt like it could've done a whole lot more with the setting and subject matter.

I'll never understand why studios feel that a movie has to be 1hr 30 minutes or less to be successful during the summer as some of the biggest summer movies have been close to two hours or longer. This is especially bad when they are cutting out major story elements to speed up the pace of the movie. That quick pace won't much sense if there is no reason to care for the characters or plot.

And? That's the best you can come up with for a movie that's 18 years old?

No, the whole movie is insanely cheesy and clearly dated (and not in the way T1 is), I was just pointing out one example of it not aging well at all.

Yeah I thought the Pirates franchise would've ended this mindset, honestly.

shorter movie = more showings = more profit - or so they think

i guess TDK proved them wrong with that

QUESTION FOR ALL THOSE THAT SAW IT.

how is the score?? Do they use the Terminator theme a lot? I am talking about the theme from T2.
T3's music sucked..

It doesnt use the same theme as T2, Danny Elfman did his own version of the theme and incorporated it in the music.

Personally I thought the score sucked.

I saw it. I agree with many reviewers' complaints - the story was terrible and Christian Bale was equally as bad as John Connor. Marcus and Kyle were both great though, and the Marcus sections were much better than the other half. There were a few cringe worthy references -
everyone in the theater groaned when John Conner said "I'll be back"
, but otherwise it wasn't terrible. Overall, I enjoyed the action scenes which is pretty much all I went to see the movie for, definitely a serviceable summer action flick.

I just saw the movie, I liked it. The Arnold cameo was awesome. The music Sucked. There's plenty of fanservice.
The Guns and roses song while Connor steals a Bike Terminator was great
But it's definetly not a copy and paste version of t2(like t3 was).

Pros:
- Sam Worthington(He was good, but I don't think he's that awesome)
- Arnold Cameo (Really cool, but was expecting a bigger reaction out of Bale.)
- Anton Yetchin** (Definetly felt like Kyle Reese from T1)
- The Terminators ( Kick ass new machines, good job on the designs )
- The look and feel of the movie (Definetly felt related to t1)

Cons:

- Bale's Batman voice: It feels forced. Not Natural at all. Don't get me wrong I'm still a fan.
- The editing: Wierd cuts. THe movie had really wierd cuts during scenes with Bale & Bryce, Bloodgood & Worthington. There was something missing.

Go see it. It's not Star Trek Good, but it's a really good movie nonetheless.

Guess the thread title can be changed now.

Except that a lot of people, including at least one mod who can change the title, liked it? :P

Pretty much just used my Facebook status from last night. "Terminator was very good. Not 'Star Trek awesome', but a good movie. Go see it."

Man, this summer blows.

It's only been like three weeks and one of them was a fantastic movie.

- Wolverine was ass.
- Star Trek was awesome.
- Terminator was good.

Then Up next weekend, and The Hangover the week after.

And there is Transformers if you like that sort of thing. I am really really looking forward to Public Enemies. The REAL Christian Bale summer movie.

Man, i dont see how anyone can think this movie was "good". It wasnt bad, but just plain mediocre. It just felt pointless...

By all accounts, that's more a Johnny Depp movie than anything else.

Anyway, I just got back from seeing it. It was okay. Not that bad (certainly not ~30% bad), but that not good either. It's the very definition of big, loud, dumb movie. The effects were excellent (the Arnold cameo was cool), and the action was good, but a lot of it rang hollow because the script was virtually non-existent. So much so that, at the end of it, I was wondering just what was the point of the movie.

You can tell there was a lot of story left on the cutting room floor, because of just how jarring the editing can be at times (the big example that comes to mind is Moon Bloodgood
in the rain, then all of a sudden the rain is gone and she's surrounded by hicks
). Most of the characters end up getting sidelined in the film, and the only ones that get a decent amount of screentime are Connor and Marcus. The ending was also really weak. When the original ending leaked a while back, I think I was one of the few who actually liked it. I wish McG had used that instead; it would have worked with the film so much better, and was certainly better than the ending we got.

Sam Worthington was the only actor really worth a damn in the movie, but even he wasn't that great, though I can tell it has less to do with him and more to do with McG's directing. I like Bale, but he wasn't given much to work with here outside of playing the generic action hero role. Yelchin was good, better than I thought he'd be, but like I said he doesn't get to do a whole lost.

In short, TS isn't really bad, but it felt very empty and unnecessary.

The score is totally forgettable. I heard some scraps of the Terminator theme here and there, but otherwise I didn't even notice Elfman's score.

well, I ended up not going to see this today. might just wait for the blu-ray so I can see all the cut scenes when I watch it for the first time.

Still haven't seen it, prolly will this weekend... but all I'm gonna say is "a lot better than T3" is good enough for me. That's all I ever expected out of this. And that seems to be the consensus of regular joes like me, not some critics with their heads up their asses.

Saw it today.....was disapointed by how mediocre it was. I do not think word of mouth is gonna be good for this like it was for Star Trek. The Arnold Cameo was freakin awesome, Anton played a freakin perfect young Kyle Reese, the music sucked, the terminators and all the machines were pretty awesome, but it just wasn't "clicking." For me it did get better as it went on, but its still not something I can say I was glad to have spent my money on.

The arnold Cameo was awesome but it lacked something: Spoiler:
When you find out it's arnold, Bale starts shooting without a seconds hesitation. Problem was that in T2, they paint arnold as a Father figure. Connor should have stood there in disbelief for a quick second, get hit by Arnold, then fight back.

Yes, if he was a dummy. But the real savior of mankind wouldn't be an emo pussy and already know the future events (that Arnold is a terminator model that comes off the assembly line and that the only reason that the one he met before was benevolent towards him was because he himself reprogrammed him).

Instead of fighting, CG Arnold should have realized that it was John from the future and ran outside. There he would break into a car, hesitate for a moment, then pull down the sun visor to reveal a set of car keys. As he drives off into the sunset, he would look back into the rearview mirror and say, "I'll be back...ala vista....baby!" Credits roll/ end thread

Please, we don't need another brooding Bale performance. Let's hope he changes his character up, but playing the "straight cop", it doesn't seem likely.

I enjoyed it well enough, but I agree with the general sentiment that it felt pretty minor and almost unfinished in a sense. When the credits roll, you're just left thinking, "Oh. Okay, where's the rest?" but then again, I don't think this is a series that's ever going to get any sort of a satisfactory conclusion no matter what direction it goes in.

If there was one specific scene that should've been cut, it was the terrible and unnecessary exposition between Marcus and Skynet towards the end of the movie.

I didn't even realize this opened today. I just assumed it was tomorrow.
