Official UFC Undisputed '09 Thread: They Call him Punches in Bunches

It should be a minor thing, but I just can't make myself unsee it. I played the 360 version for a few days before playing the PS3 version, and now everytime the fighters go to the ground and lay on the logo I just cringe, everything looks so realistic and it's so easy to get immersed in the game but the mat logos just jar me back to reality again.

edit - in fact, everytime I play the demo I tell myself, "it's okay, they'll fix it up for retail" :lol

Are submissions against the CPU even harder in the full game than the demo?

On expert I would say it's the same. Of course guys with lower stats there you can submit easier than Chuck. I have won by rear naked choke (GSP vs. Alves). PvP is where it's at though. Subs are easier and there is actually a reward for spinning the stick against humans. Against the cpu on expert I feel like no matter how fast you spin or tap against guys like Mir you're fucked anyway.

Best KO against my friends so far was Mirko headkicking the shit out of Brock. Brock really is no joke, it's flash KO heaven cause his stand up is boxing and his strength is fucking 80...80!!!!

No midnight release, no mom and pop shops.. f**k...2 more days...2.more.days. -_-

dude if I could have bought 2 I would have sent you one. If anyone deserves to be playing it early it's you.

Thanks newssguy, that's good news about submissions being more balanced in PvP.

Sucks, but it could be worse, at least you only have to wait 2 days. I've been playing the demo a few times a day ever since I got it, and every time it signs me out with "Full game on the 19th!". Doing that and then making my actual release date the 21st is some kind of Bush-administration enhanced interrogation tactic.

I hear ya!

I feel like I'm in the zone right noe, I'm finishing guys left and right like it's nobody's business using subs and ground and pound. Apparently, folks didn't practice on the ground game with the demo.

EDIT - 12 fight winning streak and ranked 4th overall on the leaderboards. I'll enjoy my time now since I know I'll plummet when everyone gets it. :lol

Well it's true, when you make an official thread for a game like this you're actually selling the game to people. Think about all the guys who've come in here and said thanks cause they weren't fans of UFC but came in here, played the demo, and will now buy the game.

Although I was going to go on a game buying freeze until inFamous, I may have to pick this game up.

Is it actually possible to KO someone with a body shot in retail? I know in the demo it wasn't possible, I got to a point that every single bodyshot was dropping Chuck, but nothing :(

Its possible to stun them (gray screen) with body blows, especially the kicks. Which can set up a nasty KO but I dont think body kos are possible. They are pretty rare in mma so its not too bad of an omission.

No KO, you can rock them to the point where they're just laying there and just pound them out for a TKO though.

Shawn I wanna play you but you're on the PS3 version!

NG28 said:
Which is how it actually works IRL, right?

Yep. If you can't defend yourself the ref will pull you off the guy and call the fight. I would say the majority of fights IRL end like this. Guy gets rocked, not completely unconscious, opponent bashes his head in until the ref calls it.

Is there any real defense against that at all beyond having a high enough recovery, or are you pretty much screwed? Even if you get your hands up when you're laying on the ground and rocked, punches inevitably get through and you get TKO'd or knocked out.

I'm really having my way with the crowd right now. After going 1-1 I've won my last 14 straight. Now ranked 11th overall and #3 on the weekly leaderboards.

If enough of you guys are getting the game on 360, I may pick up a extra copy.

Well I didn't check the ratings but I can tell you an awesome fight story. I was rampage fighting Anderson Silva. He managed to rock me 4 times and all 4 times I was in that limp state. I was tapping the face buttons like a beast and managed to get out of that state all 4 times!!! Best part, I got up with like 30 seconds left in the 3rd round and knocked his ass out. It felt awesome but my hand was cramping up lol.

I'm 13-2 (lost once via lag cheater) on the 360. Last time I checked I was in the top 20. Probably in the 40's now that people have played more than me online since it's all point based.

Hey Shawn, who do you use in Online?

I'm using a wide cross section of fighters fight now. Trying to get a feel for how I want to build my created fighter.

Off the top... Machida, Rampage, Brock, Kongo, Koscheck, KenFlo, Joe Daddy, and Muscle Shark for name a few.

Alright, getting some games in and then I'll face you later tonight.

The first GAF fight!! lol

EDIT: okay, I'm about to have a big fight... with the #2 player on the leaderboards. >.< wish me luck!

EDIT2: damn he was good. :( lmao god knocked out while on the ground late in the second round. i need to work on my ground game

HW: Big Nog (3-0)
LHW: Thiago Silva (7-0) best all-around fighter in that division for the ground game.
MW: Demian Maia (1-0)
WW: BJ Penn (1-0)
LW: Kenny Florian (1-2)

Those are my records online. I'm favoring the ground game since people online are horrible at the ground.

It will be a momentous occasion!

On a different note. Our ladder setup grew kinda fast, we're just hit the 500 member mark last night and the ladders opened up on may 12th. Just hoping everything goes over smoothly when the game comes out and the ladders start.

Is it possible to create a decent Fedor with the character creator? What striking/grappling styles would you guys give him?

How's Brock? I plan on using him most of the time.

I beat a Brock player in 28 seconds within the 1st round. clinched, pulled guard, went to rubber guard, swept to full mount. 6 or so punches later I won.

It'll have to be tomorrow. I'm out with the wife for dinner and a movie. Posting from the lobby at an Applebees while we wait for our table. I'll add you to my friends list.

I win with way too many random one punch KO's for my liking. I can kick a guy in the head four times in the row(deep ones that he steps right into!) and he pretty just looks at me. But one random right hand(standing or mounted) sends his eyes straight to heaven whether he has a full stamina bar or not. Madness.

What difficulty?

From what I can tell in the demo, flash KOs often happen when one guy whiffs and the other guy counters and catches him with a heavy punch or kick to the face/head.

Been playing some more and can get KO's pretty regularly on expert on the demo now. I still suck so horribly with submissions though. I can't even get them on experienced. I spent like three hours with Shogun trying to get one, so much so that I tore the little flap of skin between my thumb and finger and got blood on my controller. I must be the slowest stick spinner ever.

I think my fighting style is going to have to be just to pound the shit out of people whether I want or not. Good thing it's fun.

It comes out on Thursday here in Australia, but that is kinda a good thing. I need to fix my left bumper and right stick as they are stuck; but zipper lubricant didn't help them. Damn, gonna have to take my controller apart and manually clean...

how the hell does everyone have this game already lol, theres like 20 streams on jtv. /trots back off to the demo

Since they have taunts mapped to the D-Pad they should give Nate Quarry a custom taunt.

Also kind of disappointed that they don't name the judges, I wanna be able to laugh at virtual Cecil Peoples.

How the fuck did he do that slam?

LB (L1 for ps3) + Major tnrasition. You need to be in the grab after a sprawl to do it. It can stun (gray screen) which leads to a pretty easy KO since you can knock them out in sidecontrol with punches (no need to full mount) and they will most likely focus on blocking the full mount.

Ahh, it is a signature move, thanks.

Also, what transition is it in the second video when brock is ground and pounding and then stands up over him and continues - just before the grey screen.

Like, I know you can get it after the slam, but in general how to change like he does.
