Official UFC Undisputed '09 Thread: They Call him Punches in Bunches

"I have fought all over the world and I am excited to be in EA SPORTS MMA because this game is going to show the global appeal of mixed martial arts," said Emelianenko. "I know MMA fans have been wanting to play as me and pitting me against any opponent. Now they will have their opportunity."
Yeah any opponent except for all of them in UFC minus Couture.

I played as Rich Franklin and battered a Forrest Griffin before I got flash knocked out by a head kick... to my arm! I wasn't impressed to say the least.

Damn I am late. I moved off campus and barely got a TV now. Well I'm ready to go if anyone is up for some matches. I have the PS3 version. Any word on the GAF league?

So I made the mistake of trying to win at least one ranked match for the achievement before I sell the game.

Any tips? Aside from my first fight (which was a relatively close standup affair) every fight has ended quickly once we get to the ground. Within a transition or two the guy has me in full mount (i think, where he's sitting up on my chest) and then it's game over.

Is it even possible to get out of that? Or what should I be looking for, doing, to prevent this.

Also, is there anyone playing that isn't ranked 75+ and using 99 OVR created characters? Anyone? Beuler?

Change the settings so only real UFC fighters can be used. Use, I dunno, Forrest Griffin and try to catch every kick you can with the right stick. He catches it and knocks them to the ground automatically. My friend does it to me to dissuade me from using any sort of kicks. Otherwise, ground 'n' pound is something you really have to learn yourself. Try the tutorial.

To keep them from getting full mount hold the right analog stick to the right. This will block their transition attempts. You will be able to block about 4-6 straight transitions depending on their ground rating. What you want to do is be patient, wait for them to transition and then go right into your transition.

If they have you in full mount, BE PATIENT. Most will just block your transition while you try to get out and then gas you/sub you. Wait for them to throw a punch and immediately do LB + major transition (half circle). This, with good timing, will prevent them from blocking that transition and you will flip them over.

There are more advanced things down the road, like instead of HOLDING left on the right analog stick you can FLICK it to reverse a transition. The Flick has to be done at the start of the transitions animation, if succesfull you will end up in a very good offensive position (even full mount can be reversed into open guard with you on top).

Ranked games will only stay on striking if the opponent knows that you will be a handful on the ground. If you need any tips feel free to message me on live and we can get a spar in.

Hope that helps.

I'm still coming up against people with CAFs who seem too good. I was dominating a guy in a fight until he caught me with a submission and I lost (my stamina wasn't that low)

The patch doesn't say anything about addressing turbo-modded controllers, so there's that possibility.

Also, CAF characters can still be manipulated to have very, very high skills depending on how they're being managed. Without fail, I'll switch to STATS view on the character select screen, just to get an idea of where my fighter is going to be at a disadvantage against the other player's character. If they were running a SUB OFF 99 character against a SUB DEF 55 character, you're going to tap even if you're not Gassed.

so lame.. I finally dust the game off to go online and it is full of fucking losers. I lost my first match in a close match vs Level 5 custom but he got me in a Kimora out of nowhere, then the 2nd guy cheated and used a lag device which mean not a single input registered so my guy just stood there and got KO'd, and now im searching and its full of these morons with 150+ disconnections and they don't appear in the recent played list so I cant tell them where to go.. and now I just played another guy who lagged me to a RNC win.. pathetic. 0-3-0.

What kind of submission was it, was it just a normal lock in or was it a reversal? The reversal subs in this game are really tight to lock on and you can catch people with 80% stam and tap them with it. By reversals i mean the wrestling reversal into guillotine or the jude reversal into RNC. If it was CAF vs UFC the stat differential is pretty massive.

If you want to avoid the CAF setup you can always do LHW UFC. Good enough variety of 90 overalls there so you always have an option.

You sure it's not just regular lag? What kind of lag device would do that?

I just got totally owned in 6 matches in a row. Pretty much everyone seems to be level 50+, including a few 70+ and one Lvl. 100 player (that was the only fight that was truly embarrasing; I was used like a mop).

I need to practice a bunch more, it seems. But how do you guys deal with Anderson Silva players? That grapple-to-Muay-Thai clinch is pretty devastating.

Just played my first three fights online and got welcomed by a Brock Lesnar who felt it necessary to spam the superman punch, and the rematch was more of big punch spamming by a Tim Sylvia. Third fight i got headkick spammed to fuck and i've decided i'm pretty much done with online now. Seems i've gotten to the party too late. I really don't feel like sinking 80 hours of getting my ass kicked into this game - it's good, but not that good.

Just tap up on the right stick to clinch them or get them to the ground. Spamming should only be a problem if they're mixing up high/low strikes or if you're really close to them where there's a bit of "suction."

If you can counter strikes (which isn't that hard to do) you will destroy someone who just spams strike attacks.
I fought a guy yesterday who was trying to just do that. I won the match in 50 seconds via armbar

They just need to do a little work on the career mode and I'll be in heaven.

I hope the EA game is good, because I bet it has the fighter maker like in Fight Night 4 which will be godlike for a MMA game.

I probably need a ton of practice to be able to be competitive online - until then i'll just keep getting mounted and pounded out. The problem is, the CPU doesn't really offer any competition if you've figured out both the basics for ground game and stand up. I have a lot of trouble getting single leg takedowns, reversing transitions and countering strikes and kicks - if i do manage any one of these moves, it's by accident - yet i have no trouble beating the CPU on Expert by applying a very basic gameplan. I could go into practice mode to learn how to do these, but i much rather learn by facing competition online that's at the same level as me... conclusion: i should've picked this up at launch, as i was planning to.

ive had this game, the type of players online piss me off

i know learn to play etc.. but its just not fun. guys who just go straight to mount and can block any transition i make, then just spam punch and KO me. or guys who just spam submissions every time they get taken down, so there's no point even taking them down. that's not even mentioning the retards who just run across the cage for running strike. i cant strike because of the shit lag i get, not that it matters because no one strikes anyway.

ill quite happily tell everyone im terrible. my record is like 5-20. i just find this probably the least fun game ive ever played online. again you can say learn to play or whatever but i just find it infuiating and not even remotely enjoyable. theres no strategy, it's just control spamming.

eh you are probably an ex pride fanboy so i won't get into an argument with you since there is no point.
Why ex? :lol

I just keep re-watching the same shit again and again and again, it's pretty fucking cool.

I actually have a Pride bumper sticker on my car and even I'll cop to US MMA being superior. It's not even much of an argument at this point. Japanese MMA is on its last legs...well, until the next boom hits that is.

I'd pay for PrideFC rings and presentation. Dana owns the right AFAIK. Never gonna happen though. :/

The UFC uberXXXtreme presentation doesn't do it for me.

With the different rules, that'd be pretty difficult to get in the game.

Wrestling and Fighting have always melded more fluidly in Japanese promotions. To both good and bad effect. UFC has better fights and a better roster overall. Pride had way better presentation and an audience that appreciated technique over a bar brawl simulation, but then they would also put a small fighter against an unskilled giant for the thrill of it all. The UFC is a better model for the continuation of the sport for the west, but it lacks some slickness and has too much "nurockxtreme" flavor.

It was nothing but a Yakuza money hole all along, supposedly. I don't think they were threatened directly, I think cooperation just went away. Like he was trying to sell them a Xbox.

Excellent analogy. Nobody wants the 360 here.

So todays been a pretty dark day in the UFC undispuniverse. Theres been a caf creation glitch found out that allows you a guaranteed submission regardless of their stamina rating. If you wanted to be really obvious that you were glitching they could walk right up to you and flying armbar you in 3 seconds. Unfortunately the technique is now out in the wild and while it isnt super easy to do, once you do it its permanent. This is really going to hurt our UFC league.

Due to how long the last patch took and time until release I dont think this will be patched.

I R sad panda. :(

Amateur fighting game devs make amateur mistakes. I haven't played in a long time, I never got over the whole d/c fiasco, now I know I'll be sticking to offline matches with my buddies if anything.

Yea dude this might hurt our league, but I think we have a solution. we've been going pretty good on our 15th event and we've had about 30 tournaments. We've made it through tons of stuff, muay thai elbow spam, battery mashing, sub release submission glitch, caf overall going over 100 well make it through this one too lol.

Same here. If Pride FC lived on I would never bother to watch UFC although UFC is great now that most of Pride FC guys are in too.

I am still hoping to see Japanese MMA in EA Sports Presents MMA game

We did some more digging and testing and the glitch does not work in ranked, it disconnects the user. It does however work in player matches so that wont affect a lot here.
