OFFICIAL Veronica Mars (the movie) kickstarter

Not sure how well Terriers Kickstarter would do on Kickstarter but a Supernatural movie would make an easy killing if they did a Kickstarter for a movie. The fanbase is a dedicated like Veronica Mars but with a larger fanbase worldwide.

Speaking of which they made an interesting tweet a few days ago:

Why are people talking about a gilmore girls KS? Didn't that show have like 8 seasons?

7, but it ended badly. Creator left at the end of the penultimate season, new showrunner did his best for the final one, but in the end it kind of went out with a whimper. Never got much real closure, and the creator of the show had specific plans for how it would end. That, and she's expressed some degree of interest in a concluding miniseries or movie.

I'd love to see that happen, personally. Doubt it will though, with Alexis Bledel starring in a new sitcom (as the love interest of Lauren Graham's Parenthood ex, oddly enough).

Supernatural fanbase is dedicated? When did they get downgraded from fanatical?

A Supernatural movie Kickstarter would destroy Veronica Mars' record for fundraising. Just promise fans a cameo or the ability to get a hug from J-squared and it would sell out instantly.

I like to pretend the last season didn't happen.

Lorelai never had the big fight and break up with Luke. Rory never ended up with Logan.

10 million dollars and Jared and Jensen will make out for 2 minutes.

Why would Supernatural need a movie?

It's not like the show got cancelled, just end it the way they want this season.
Just using it as an example of a crazy fanbase.

Hell, if they did a Kickstarter to pay for getting the soundtrack back to its early season levels I would pay in a heartbeat.

Fantastic news, though you can bet they're a little gutted that they didn't aim a little higher and try 3-4 million. It'll probably reach that in the end, but, potentially, they could have got at least 1-2 million with a more aggressive pitch. Still, I just love that we're going to spend 2 hours or so in the company of these fantastic characters again. Season 1 was some of the best TV I've ever seen, and whilst season 2 and 3 fell below those heights, they're still worth watching, despite some huge missteps (particularly season 2's big twist which undoes some great character development).

I don't know if it was ever shown in the UK, but I'm glad I got turned onto the show. Nobody, whenever I brought it up in conversation, had heard of it, though the same used to go for Arrested Development.

Supernatural isn't ending this season.

Risk vs. reward. Remember that on Kickstarter if you don't reach your goal, you get nothing. Better to aim low to start with.

One thing I hate about the kickstarter is that you get tons of useless updates. I must have gotten 20 updates from the Tesla Museum project. Look I don't need to know the detail just let me know when the museum is done ok.

I had to create an email filter to hide those Kickstarter emails.

The Game of Thrones and Community threads have made me avoid rabid fan threads and forums. It makes me hate the shows by association. Once I abandoned them, I started enjoying the shows a lot more.

Yep, I made that mistake with The Office. I don't even know how those people enjoy the shows, nitpicking at every detail and overreacting about everything.

VM was my favorite show at one point, third place after Stargate SG-1 and Lost...

Can't say I care for it that much now though. I don't know if I want to tear up a little or break something.

You can opt out of getting those emails from the Kickstarter site itself.

Wow I'm surprised this did so well so fast. I'm glad to see it has a high chance of getting made now. I just hope I have the funds available before the cutoff to get into the $100 bracket.

High chance? It's funded. It's getting made.

If it doesn't, one thing they mention is that they are taking out insurance on the project. I assume that insurance kicks in now, so based on Kickstarter's TOS, if something does fall through there's a decent chance backers will get refunds.

You aren't charged until the end of the Kickstarter. Pledge now and pull out before the end date if you don't have the money.

it was shown on e4, they repeated the whole series a few years ago too.

unfortunately they never released dvds in the uk :(

Right but he did say he still hasn't gotten explicit permission to do so. I would gather though that WB sees this and gives the greenlight, but just because it's funded doesn't mean it'll come true until everything is signed by lawyers and the copyright holders.

I'm shocked to see people defending Dax Sheapard in this thread. He is a terrible, terrible actor who only has had one good role when he played himself in Idiocracy.

He's really great on Parenthood fwiw. I've sort of given up on the show to a certain extent since I hate the level of melodrama that gets added on every week but it's well done and at times, absolutely brilliant. My fiancee still watches it every week -- I'll catch it on occasion.

? WB is pretty much already all in; they set up the account the money's going into:
All funds will go into a Veronica Mars Movie Project production account which has been set up by Warner Bros. on our behalf.

He also would have had to get WB's permission for the rewards their offering, and this is likely why they're having to scramble to arrange something for international backers.

Things could still go haywire in pre-production (as they often do), but I don't think WB is going to be the catalyst in the project's hypothetical dissolution. More than likely at this point, if additional funds or time are needed, WB will invest more as required. Clearly, the interest is there to get this thing off the ground, obstacles be damned.

Read the next sentence after that one.

Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros. brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot. They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there’s enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we’re on board.

Also:

Distribution is always a challenge with low-budget films, but Warner Bros. is going to help us distribute the movie, and try to get it out there as widely as possible.

All this has been cleared with WB, and in fact they have already pledged to handle marketing, legal and release of the film.

From Deadline.com:

Deadline said:
I’m told the extent of WB’s involvement at present is in aiding with distribution, marketing, publicity and legal via Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, which will help with a limited theatrical release followed by On Demand via cable and satellite providers as well as digital retailers.

They'll get that easily still... there's always another flood of people donating by the end of the Kickstarter.

From the FAQ:

Will you start allowing international donors?

We hope so. We're trying to make this happen. We've run into a couple thorny issues. It's not about the shipping cost. If it were that easy, we'd already be doing it. Keep checking back. We hope to have an answer in a week or two.

A few weeks before we know :_(

They'd never do it in a million years, but if they promised a Kristen Bell nude/topless scene as a 10 million dollar stretch goal, I wonder if they would make it. It'd be a horrible choice for the movie and not fit at all with the tone and style of the TV series, but it could still totally work to bring in extra money.

20 million stretch goal and they'd get it.

I did read the kickstarter page. But this is Hollywood we're talking about here. They're not really known for being 100% honest just because they have the funding. All I was saying is don't be 100% sure this is getting made or released. Until it hits theaters that is ;)

There are numerous movies that supposedly had the go ahead but the studios shut down production. Movies that were never finished or movies that sat in vaults for years until they were released (if ever). I'm just saying it's not out of the realm of possibility. That's all.

I think this would irreperably damage careers of the people involved, maybe even kill their careers completely.

So, your argument is that this movie has the same probability of coming out as any movie that is greenlighted but hasn't started shooting yet?

There's absolutely no way they'd kill their careers with this.

I ponied up.

I regret to inform you the film now centers on the long-lost Mars child, who just so happens to be a sassy robot for some reason. Also, there will be a 27-minute sequence in which Corny performs a strange snakelike dance.

It's at 2.7 million. Looks like it has a decent chance of hitting 3 million today.

Curious to see where it ends up, though. I'm hoping between 5-7 million.

The circumstances are different here. The movie is being crowdfunded. It Warner takes this money and runs away with it, not only would their reputation be severely tarnished, but I'm pretty sure they could get in legal trouble.

you're quoting a delusional dude who cries everytime anyone throws any valid criticism to the show. it's very popular on gaf. though i think the most popular show on gaf is piece of crap walking dead.

anyways join spartacus and arrow gaf and get swole brah
I was under the impression that Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad were the most popular shows based on how many post their threads get with each new season. Before those two it was Lost.

I was just being the devil's advocate. Nothing more. Since AFAIK this is the first studio motion picture ever done this way, so it's a first and there's nothing to really compare it to. Plus it's a major studio so even if it was paid for and for some reason it didn't go through, WB has enough cashflow to reimburse everyone who put money into it.

I'm definitely happy that this has gotten so much support from its fan base. I wanted to chip in but the non US restriction was a big obstacle. I hope they work around it and have a way for us, the ones on the other side of the world, of giving our back up.

On the other hand, it makes me want to watch it all over again; however, I don't think enough time has passed since my first time with the show (I watched it last year, the three seasons in about a month). To think I almost didn't buy it, and took a plunge while in Paris.

Something tells me you'd watch anything with Manu Bennett in it, just a feeling I have.

Haha the avatar probably gives it away but I swear it was coincidence, I was very happy to see him join arrow but I was following it from the pilot.

Anyways I wonder how this will fare with such a low budget.

Dtv seems more rational than theatrical seeing as it's for the fans anyways
