Official Worldwide Nintendo Wii Launch Thread

You've got to love that first exclamation that alot of them have on their first swing, bowl etc.

"Gaaaahh!!! oh... wow!"
"AAaaaaoo!!"
"Oh my god!"

So... these Wii kiosks use nice widescreen TVs that are probably hooked up with component cables, yet Nintendo isn't shipping component cables to stores? *sigh* I keep hoping someone will refute that IGN story but I guess it hasn't happened yet, eh? :'(

I'm hoping for the same thing... :(

those wii experience videos showing both the player and screen at the same time show that there is no lag in wii sports, except for the pitching in baseball...which must be intentional i suppose.

those experience videos are fun though. good marketing idea

IGN's Wii launch guide claims that the shoulder buttons on the classic controller are not analog. Which I think was discussed in a thread recently and a few people said that they were.

Number 6 in the classic controller section said:
The buttons are not analog like the GCN hardware, however, which makes playing select GameCube titles very tricky. Hold on to your GameCube controllers.

for the love of **** nintendo. if the classic controller game indeed play GC games (which it should) then it should allow you to control the GC game as intended. it should have analog shoulder buttons for that reason alone

Then you wouldn't be able to play SNES or N64 games as intended. The classic controller is for NES/SNES/N64. The gamecube controller is for gamecube games (duh).

Last time I checked the SNES and N64 didn't have 4 shoulder buttons. And last time I checked you weren't expected to try and get hold of last-gen controllers if you wanted to play BC games.

The CC should have arranged it shoulder buttons like on the GC but with an extra Z button. That way you could play NES/SNES/N64/GC games as intended

the wiimote can play GCN games?

last time i checked the CC is for NES, SNES and 64 and GCN for GCN.
Im also confused about the retro controller. Has there been confirmation about what games it can and cant play?

the classic controller has dual analog though, just like the gc pad and unlike the n64 controller... why?

Well originally the CC was supposed to be for developers who didn't want to use the wiimote in their new games as well as for the VC. I don't know if that's still the case, I haven't heard of any developer using the CC for a new game, but it's a reason for the dual analog. Plus new VC games, not classic titles, might use it.

It does seem like the CC can be used for GC games too though. I can't see it being too much of an issue, most games didn't really use the triggers, but Nintendo might as well have put it in. I suppose they could argue SNES and N64 games that used shoulder buttons rather than triggers might not feel right, but who knows what their reasoning is.

Don't know if it's been mentioned at all, but I've seen the estimated delivery of the Wii to a certain US store as being 11/9 (small store though, so it's only getting a couple in for launch). I'm guessing that with the street date fiasco with the DS Lites, most stores will probably be better at honoring them though, so this information is not at all helpful.

Maybe the shoulder buttons are analog a-la PS2?

As in more pressure-sensitive than "triggery"? I don't remember them being analog at E3, but that could've easily changed and they could have been for all I know.

Might want to add this to the original post:

For the first six months, Opera on Wii is free. If you download it during that
period, it is free forever. You will not have to pay again after the first six
months. It is only if you download it after the first six months that you will have
to pay a one-time fee for the browser.

The one with the girl who was trying to press the buttons was hillarious. I love these videos.

To add Playstation and Playstation 2 games onto the Virtual Console.

We need confirmation regarding the Classic Controller and it's compatibility with the GCN, because... I don't own one and want to start buying some games to play on my Wii, and I really hate the GCN controller.

I highly doubt Classic Controller (or anything through Wii-Remote) will work for Gamecube games.

However, there would an opportunity for Nintendo or an aspiring third party company to make an adapter so that the Classic Controller can use the Gamecube ports. How hard could that be?

I was informed of a store that already got them in...

... that just makes waiting even worse. Knowing that they are there but I can't have one yet. *growls*
