Did you just keep redialing after the recording said they're too busy?

yes. I kept calling until I got a different message from "We are sorry but we are unable to take your call". They are open for another 48 minutes (7pm PST). Keep trying.

It's funny because the chick was pissed (though incredibly good spirited and even sounded kind of cute). She said an hour and a half before the three of them (in the call center) were supposed to go home tonight, people started calling in on this. they looked it up in the computer, and now as soon as they hang up the phone another one of us is on the next line waiting to buy them. She says she has already gone through around 25 tonight, and that is non-stop.

I hear the remote has a speaker in it..Is it possible to turn this feature off if you're sick of it or you want to keep your playing on the down low?

Yes.

Grr, so what the hell should I do people? Call my Walmart adn ask if they're doing a midnight launch (it's not a Superstore), call around and ask all the other places when they're selling them, or drive all teh way to the nearest superstore?

Can someone respond to this?

Okay, just one more question. What method of shipment did you buy to guarantee the cable by Sunday?

I'm broke but I don't care what it takes, I will have a wii and Zelda on launch day. As a gamer I can not deny myself the sweet sweet sex that Zelda will be. I've been waiting so long!! TOO LONG!!

That was what- three, four years ago?

In stark contrast to the scant 80-to-90,000 units allocated to Japanese gamers at the launch of the PlayStation 3 this week, Nintendo has announced it will provide 400,000 units at launch. Interest in the Wii is feverish right now in the land of the rising fun, and if these figures are anything to go by, Nintendo has taken this demand into consideration.

At this stage, Nintendo has yet to announce shipment figures for the North American launch. IGN contacted Nintendo Australia's PR Manager, Vispi Bhopti, for an exact figure for the Australian launch. He commented, "We are still finalising the Australian shipment numbers."

Australians have been receptive of Nintendo's DS handheld and the new method of control that it introduced. Hopefully, with clear interest in the Wii, Nintendo will capitalise on launch hype and continue to support the system in Australia with regular first- and third-party titles, along with plenty of Virtual Console content.

We'll endeavour to confirm launch shipment figures before the Wii launches in Australia on December 7.

EVRERY game other than zelda is getting less than subpar scores :(

Sounds like a console launch alright... except for that part about Zelda.

*snip*

I think a problem with the picture is that Iwata doesn't have that look of delirious ecstacy that typified the DS 'itprintsmoney' pic. That's what made it fit so well. Maybe you should look for happier Iwata faces.

Red Steel is at 90, unless I missed something. Trauma Centre has 80%, which is good for a remake.

What else?

Cor doesn't this quote get tiresome?

Ultimately, it feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game.

EVERY SINGLE LAUNCH!

Ok it might be true, but its just boring to hear journalists churn out cookie cutter comments in reviews.

Second thoughts? Why?

Perhaps you and me are into different games. But the games I love always get average scores, besides a few here and there.

Have you seen the PS3 reviews? They are pretty similar. Most games getting around 8.

The important thing is to not lose yourself in the mass hysteria and hype that comes with console launches. You soon start thinking a new console is going to revolutionise all the games you play and make what you've played previously a dinosaur. I've always believed one thing. Not a single game coming out on 'next gen' systems in the near future is going to beat what I've already played this year. It will be a while before I see something that does, if ever.

Games are games. They rarely improve with extra polygons and effects, or control methods. Some of my most loved games of all time are on 8-bit machines. Relax, don't place so much importance on the media and PR spin. Just play games and enjoy them.

Have you guys seen? Nintendo is advertsing on the Youtube frontpage. Or am I awfully late? Cool commercial nontheless.

Be cheerful that we have Zelda, silly. :) It's not common for a launch to have such an awesome game (I can only think of Mario 64 as a comparison).

Monkey Ball is great!

We still have to see how Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel are reviewed, but at least the former is going to be very very fun.

Wii Play has Combat in it so it's a must buy.

It's a great launch, possibly the best for a Nintendo machine.

Hey guys, I'm sure somebody here is a pro on stepdown converts! Based on Kobun Heat's posting of Wii have an Input of AC 120W 53V 60Hz and an output of DC 12V 37A, I need to know whether my current stepdown, which I used for the Japanese DSL charger, will work.

The text on it says:

Input: 230V ~ 50hz
cos *symboley thing that looks like an "o" with a line through it* = 0.2
Output: AC 110v 100w.

Do I need to buy another one or will this do?

Did anyone read the article about the "Wii Killer" on ***** (yeah, I know, *****..).

The Wii remote is a neat idea... there's basically an infrared 'camera' in the handset which looks out for the infrared LEDs in the bar attached to your TV. When you're pointing at the screen, it's an elegant solution to giving the user an onscreen pointer, and can also determine the distance from the screen. Once you're not pointing at the screen, it obviously loses all that data. At that point, all it has is the 'accelerometer' which is a tilt sensor... accelerometers don't give you a 3D position, only information on the angle you're holding it at and, to a degree, acceleration. These are good for soft, slow controls (I remember playing WipeOut on PS1 with an 'Airpad' which was an early tilt pad, and it worked pretty well) but, as soon as you move them quickly, you lose the data as it all gets scrambled.

We actually use a tilt chip in the Fusion to give us information about how you're holding the controller but it's the ultrasonics which is the really useful part: combining the two together gives something extremely powerful and intuitive.

I'm not sure if this is 100% true, but the idea (accelerometer and infrared) seems right. This means, whenever you use the controller for something like baseball (not pointing at the screen) it can't really know the controller's position. Can anybody that tried this comment on how well this works?

I don't understand. $175 for a top that looks like it was hand made by a Chinese eBayer?
Yup. But it is D&G - I, personally, don't like D&G, but I think D&G and Nintendo working together is... quite strange. Still, I think it's an interesting move.

I'm guessing that you have the letters switched around and you really meant to say Wii has an input of AC 120V 53W 60Hz? If so then yes, your current stepdown is 100W which is greater than 53W so it should be fine.

EVERY game? what? like two or three games so far? lol. did you really expect wii sports and excite truck to score higher? it's no different from the ps3 launch so far. one killer app (resistance) and otherwise mostly sevens and even sixes (nba, tony hawk, genji lol). guess what? it's a launch.

yeah that was kobun's info. and the letters are definitely switched. it's 53w and 120v of course.

I hear this concern but even the games with subpar scores look like a lot of fun! Also look at all of the quality games that are in the pipeline for 2007. I expect all of these games to be top notch so I do not expect a dead spell in 2007.

Metriod Prime 3 : Corruption
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Mario Strikers Charged
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Battalion Wars II
Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

I don't have second thoughts anymore, I decided a while back that the launch line up isn't enough for me and Zelda GC would do the job just fine if not better.I'm buying Wii later, once MP3 and SMG come out.

it's almost here and i still have no idea what my 2nd launch title will be ... hmm, I just realized I probably wont need anything but Zelda & Wii Sports to keep me busy for a while.
I'll just wait for your reviews

anyone in the boston/cambridge area?

Are any other potential importers still on the fence and terrified by the possibility of being locked out of, or seriously hindered in online multiplayer, virtual console, and anything else region-related? Or am I just being silly and I should get one asap?

I have HARDLY say every game is getting subpar scores. Monkeyball seems to be getting better scores than the original 2 if you like Monkeyball. Trauma Center is getting scores on par with the DS original if you like that. The main complaints against CoD3 and Excite Truck seem to solely lie with the their lack of online multiplayer, but single player has generally been reviewed well. I actually would say that I haven't seen one "subpar" review, yet. I'm sure there will be some, but I haven't even seen a "stay away from this game at all costs" review.

Questioning it? Now that my cables are coming by Friday, I don't even know how I will make it that long.....

With BWII having online, that'll rock the house.

YES. Just think of the variety.. Infantry, APC/IFV, tanks, arty, air/anti-air, NAVY (including submarines! Who doesn't want to command a submarine!).

That's going to be the best wwii game ever.

Oh man I just realized Metal Slug Anthology is not on the launch list on the OP, what a bummer.
considering TRU has it in their $30 off 3 title deal, and the deal is only good from Sunday to next Saturday, I'd say it's a safe bet it will launch.

Anyone else notice that in the Wii ads that "Nintendo" is not mentioned anywhere? I don't know whether that is good or bad... Nintendo is such a household name, you'd think they'd stick it in there at the end or something.

Just wanted to chime in here with a heads-up that Rayman and Red Steel seem to be shipping. I got a voicemail from the lovely EB Robot Lady telling me they'd be in this afternoon.

Thanks, Robot Lady!

Not a big surprise after they've made sure to always call the machine "Wii" and never "Nintendo Wii". It is kinda interesting to compare to the DS, though. In that case they were trying to use a name different than the established Game Boy, and Nintendo ended up being 80% of the letters.
