OFLC reveals Sonic Classic Collection for DS, BBFC reveals its contents.

I don't understand the reason for that assumption, considering Backbone is Canadian.
There's two Backbones - one in California and one in Vancouver. I could be wrong, but I think the California one is the one that does all the retro ports (the remnants of Digital Eclipse) whereas the Canadian one is the one that does all the original games.
Or is it because it's a western-based announcement as opposed to a Japanese one?

Don't forget that the Storybook series and Unleashed were announced in NA first, as was Zero Gravity I think.
That's a fair point, but I think the fact that it's a Western-based announcement of a retro collection changes that. We knew about Mega and Gems Collections by their Japanese announcements, or at the very least because they were also announced for Japan; the fact that Sega of Japan is nowhere in this press release leads me to believe that this is another example like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection: a collection done by SoA/SoE for America and UK (and not getting a Japanese release). Which means Backbone.

Sonic Mega Collection wasn't by Backbone (unless SMC means something else). And what's SMUC?

Sega Megadrive Collection (and so Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection :P).

4 games?

What the hell is the point? :lol

6 if you include Knuckles in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

The lack of Blue Sphere (Lock-on S&K with Sonic 1) is very puzzling.

So I guess it can go either way, we shall see, but I'm confident it isn't Backbone, also consider that Backbone did the PS360 emulation of the Sonic games, M2 does the VC stuff, it'd be weird for Backbone to do a DS collection. But we'll see! :)

I wouldn't count S2K, Sonic 3 and S&K.
S2K is just the same game with Knuckles.
The 2 others are 2 parts of the same game.

Is this being developed/ported by M2? They're the only company I'd trusk with a task such as this.Actually, that would be M2.

It really was M2? I thought I read SOMEWHERE that they were involved but when I didn't see them in the credits at Mobygames I dismissed that thought.

This shot proves its not emulation then if you can have Sonic and Knuckles at the same time then.

Might be good, it wouldn't ever replace my VC versions but it might be good for portable play still!

They're helpful but they can be quite inaccurate at times (like TVTropes).

Warning, some language, you have been warned.

Seriously though, it is absolutely flabbergasting how horrible this shitty game is.
that guy was so angry he wasn't rational.

also, i love how he calls juke box 'juice box'.

'look at how terrible the music is!'

haha.

Or it's bad emulation, or some misguided PR person pasted a Sonic sprite into the shot to emphasize that it was a Sonic collection without realizing that's not possible.

It's a little hard to tell because I'm on a mobile, are those shots the right resolution for DS?

What this game should have included:

Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic & Knuckles (with Lock-On)
Sonic Advance
Sonic Advance 2
Sonic Advance 3

Plus a bonus of ChuChu Rocket! GBA with stylus support.

I might have bitten if Sonic Advance 1-3 were in it. Those were pretty solid games.

Advance is a great game, really a lot like Genesis Sonic. If you seek a candidate to be the "real" Sonic 4, that would be it. Not quite as good as S3K, but really great.

Advance 2 is just push right till you finish the level (bosses are like that too :/).

Advance 3 is okay.

hmmm this was in the leaked sega doc right? with ps2 and dreamcast emulator for PS3

Nah, that was Sonic Anniversary collection

99 dollar bluray with all the old sonic games on it.

Maybe just maybe...it'll have other Sonic games on it besides these? Im still hoping for some secret unlocks or something. Did we know Ristar was on Mega Collection?

I wish they would add "Knuckles Chaotix" to one of these Sonic Collections. It could probably be a fun multiplayer game on the DS, even better if they could get online to work.

I would kill for a DSiWare sequel to Sonic Spinball

Yes. I would so buy a Sonic Spinball sequel on the DS making use of two screens.

Yes we did.

If it actually looks like that, the scaling really fucks it up. How much is this going to sell for? Wouldn't mind picking up for 25-30 if it turns out to be good =)

They can't even refer to him as Dr. Robotnik in the games that refer to him as Dr. Robotnik?

Screw you, Sega. I will never get used to Eggman.

Don't ever play Wing Fortress, then. (I didn't make this, but it amused me.)

Hacking out the multiplayer, or is this custom built?

Good eye. I didn't think about that, Sonic 2's half-res multiplayer method may not emulate well, or they just can't be bothered. I wonder if Sonic 3...

Sonic3TitleScreen.jpg

Yup, only "1 Player". Maybe they moved the multiplayer modes to a separate section, but that's not really likely, is it?

Is this DS only? If it were on PSP I would buy it instantly.
Yeah, DS only. You could get the Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP, but it only has Sonic 1 and 2, and 26 other Sega games.

Why do they always forget Sonic CD and Knuckles' Chaotix in these collections? I know the later is a bit shitty, but I thought it was alright for what it was. They're both Genesis titles with the same platforming mechanics as the main three ones in the very least.

I'd kill for something like "play as Tails and Knuckles in Sonic CD."

I think this is the only time that the old sega Sonic CD excuse of it wouldnt fit would work. Sega probably has this game on the lowest and cheapest capacity game card it could get. They would need to actually port Sonic CD and that would cost money, same story for Chaotix.

That's true. Is this supposed to be a budget title? Understandable I suppose, but if Sega actually forked in some money for bigger carts than budget ones then it should be quite easy to put all of these games on one cart. Isn't there some DS games that are around 128 MB in size (basing this on my experience with DS game rip sizes)? Those carts would easily suffice and we see them quite a lot. I'm guessing, even then, there would be the excuse of emulation, and maybe these games are being rebuilt on the DS rather than just emulated if some of those screens are true.

I was always under the impression they didn't have the original source code for Sonic CD anymore, hence why Gems Collection features a port of the PC version. Since it looks like these games are being reprogrammed to an extent (or at least hacked up), it would probably be too much to try and fit a PC emulator into a DS cart when you already have these other 4 games (plus Sonic Chronicles trailer lolz).

Ouch. Was actually looking forward to it :( Sonic 3 on a nice handheld, wow... What do you people mean with lock on though?

The game Sonic and Knuckles came with a lock on feature that let you play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 and 3. People are just referring to the fact that you can do it on this collection.

1992 & 1991? The original said 1992 / 1994...
[/QUOTE]
I think it still says 4 but the horizontal line is missing due to the vertical scaling making it look like a 1 with a stressed / bit.

The scaling in the screens is completely inconsistent in places.

Still this is the only way to play locked on Sonic 3 and Knuckles on a DS (last I checked the homebrew Megadrive emulator couldn't support ROM sizes large enough for a locked on Sonic 3 and Knuckles to run).
