Oh boy, I never expected Steam to be THAT good!

I just don't get it. I downloaded 1.3gb of a total 3.9gb with a speed of 450kb/s, yet Steam tells me that it will take 4 days to finish.
The time remaining is based on your current download rate. The Steam servers are mostly a wreck right now so I'm not surprised that you're getting schizophrenic readings.

What does this tell you? This drive is a 500GB drive that's entirely my Steam games (and my StarCraft 1 installation, but that's not very big). I still have a good 270GB free on my C: Drive so I'm going to have to start symlinking some of the bigger stuff from there. Also, here's my Steam list. I was unable to install the FEAR pack and Dead Rising 2 last night because of my HDD space.

Let's hope that by next generation the PSN Playstation Store is as fleshed out as Steam is (and most importantly unified - no more of other regions getting treated better or being more/less categorized/content-heavy).

Let's worry about Steam becoming fully unified world wide before anything else.

I'm just happy cross-region gifting exists. They take that away I'll stop buying games from Steam.

Yeah, that's true. And Source games generally work pretty well, albeit 10-15 fps slower and more crash prone.
Well I don't know about that. I was able to play HL2 under Wine with my 1,4ghz AMD Duron/Geforce mx440se/1mb RAM PC MAN BEAST MACHINE with pretty good framerates (albeit on lowest settings) until the game couldn't load the title screen animations anymore.

Seriously, if Q3Engine didn't exist, Source engine would be the king of all engines forever

The Mac app store will eliminate the need for Steam.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... No. No it will not. Only if somehow Apple makes it mandatory, that any Mac owner needs to install only Apple certified/Apple store apps.

No it wont be manditory but the thing is any game not released on the App store will be missing like 100% of the userbase. apart from the few mac users who happen to know what Steam is. Like I do now :D

I really want Steam to incorporate a service like Onlive so that you can play your games anywhere without having to download locally. They should charge like a 10/month fee which lets you play your games in the cloud if your away from your PC, and if you really want the best conditions you can also download it directly.
There are certain games that I want to play, but I don't really want to wait to play. For example on the PSN there's a DC universe beta and it's more than 15gigs which I can't be bothered downloading and would take way too long, but if I could click play and it runs, I would definitely try it.

Soon some hater will complain about it.

The euro prices vs US prices is a good reason to complain.. Same goes for XBL and Playstation store of course, but the difference is that Steam recently blocked europeans from paying in US dollars, which means what before cost, let's say 30 dollars (And still do for you americans), now could cost up to 50 dollars in converted euros. Fuck that.

No thanks. Keep your onlive away from my Steam.

Yeeeaa... No.

The one thing I thought Steam would be good for is bringing back old PC abandonware

I did a search for Sierra Online and came back with nothing. Fail.

looks like I'm officially a Steam hater ;)

Anyone else sit on a ball (an extra ball) like that? Is it comfortable?

I sit on a ball. His seems deflated. I have a six pack but not by just sitting on the ball lol. It's very uncomfortable if you have a weak core which this will strengthen and give you more balance.

Try sitting on a fully inflated ball and playing on HRAP on your lap and playing GGPO :lol

There needs to be an award for being consistently wrong on virtually every topic. They'd name it after you.

Ok. For that you got GOG.com.

http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue#all_genres/publisher/Sierra/

And Steam and steamworks offer much much more than Apple will ever offer with their Mac Store. Steam Cloud, patches automagically downloaded and installed, and the community tools and utilities. And if you think that the Mac Store will give independent developers or big publishers the flexibility to do sales of the likes we see now on Steam... Well then let's just say that you have MUCH more faith on Apple than me.

oh sweet now gog is looking pretty decent.

I'm not terribly confident in the Mac app store but assuming it doesn't completely suck...it should at least be as good as Steam for Mac.

Ah Steam, remember the time when they released CS 1.X on it, ah the glory days.

Still have one of the oldest active accounts on Steam ^^

I wish Microsoft would realize this.

Would make those "Games for $0.99" sales on the GFW Marketplace a lot more interesting if I could download Viva Pinata and Shadowrun on to my Xbox without having to buy them again (at $20 a piece, might I add).

Microsoft has no incentive to do this sadly.

Hell, lots of companies still refuse to make their games Steamplay even though they have Mac versions >.< (No EA game has the freature, even though they support Mac with all their games pretty much. Borderlands was released for Mac but doesnt support steamplay... etc...)

I believe that "Gabe is so fat" jokes are bannable; don't take my word for it, but, eh, yeah. Be careful with that.

Ok thanks for letting me know.

I love Gabe Newell, hands down he is one of the best in this industry.

Not a joke but I really do hope he loses some weight. It would be tragic to lose someone like him early.

If you have the bandwidth to run Onlive, then 15 gigs really should not take too long at all.

Blasphemer! Anyways, I have 1TB dedicated for Steam installs. I rue the day that I fill it up. I <3 Steam. Anyone who doesn't can go fuck themselves.

That depends on if the 30% cut that Apple takes is more than the cut that Valve takes, which I think it is. Also, even if I was a 100% Apple user, I'd rather purchase on Steam since in the theoretical future if I get a PC the games I buy will work on there also.

I can see the Apple Store being popular for people who port their iOS games over, but not for porting PC games.

That steamcalculator.com thing is kinda broken - if I use it it says I have 155 games, but if I go to my Community page I actually have 202.

At first I was very reluctant about buying from steam. I really dislike any service that is tied to a single companies whim, where I would have no control over it. So after I purchased Freespace 2 and Giant Citizen on GoG. I decided to give Steam a try. They had a sale for Last Remnant for 10$, picked it up and loved it. Following week, THQ pack for 50$, about 20 games including Dawn of War I-II, Company of Heroes, RF1-3, Titan's Quest, and more. I was hooked.

Nearing my 100 the game as we speak, and I haven't spent 200$ yet on the service. I'm still about 20-30$ short. :lol So far this year, I've spent 62$ and got: Dawn of War II Chaos Rising, Mount and Blade, Nxyquest, L4D2, EvE Online, Trine, Tomb Raider GOL/Anniversary, IronGrip, Recettear, Bully SE, Just Cause, King Aurthur Pack, and BC2. That's the price of a single HD title this gen, short changing the tax :lol
