Hate the death penalty because it executes innocents but when you have someone who there is no doubt and admits to it don't have any problems with it.

If ever there were a justification for the death penalty, this is it. I have no problem hoping against hope that he's served justice behind bars. Or, frankly, he's turned into a lab rat for study. This is very clearly a sociopath, and learning the wiring in his brain could be beneficial.

I checked both articles but neither said anything about bullying. One mentions that Lane failed somw psych evals during the beginning of the trial but his insanity plea was denied when a second set of evals failed to find any of the same issues.

Overall Im not sure what to think. Its entirely possible the kid is just plain fucked in the head. Its also possible there is something genuinely wrong with him. I suppose in the end it rather doesn't matter anymore. We will likely never know exactly why he decided to do what he did.
